HP envy x2 lack of Volume

Hi I have an HP envy X2 PC, product number C7F27AV with windows 8 and I have almost no volume! I have done the BIOS update and driver update listed under another post and now my computer has sound all the time but it is extreamly low and I cannot watch the things I would like to on my computer. I also want to skype with my family but am not able to because I caan't hear what anyone is saying. I have read as many posts as I can to see if I found a fix to the problem, but so far I have not, the only helpful post said they recieved a new computer and the problem was fixed (is it a hardware problem?) I am having trouble navigating the support area and don't know how to get into contact with anyone besides this so any help or diretion would be very much appreciated! Thanks

Hi Jay,
It is not supposed to be a hardware issue.
You did not say, assuming you installed the following:
sp60981 Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver V6.2.9200.PR7
You might try this:
Envy X2 (and similar)
Shut down the Notebook
Disconnect the AC Power and Hold the Power button for ten seconds
Connect, Power on, and log in
Check
Why a Power Reset works to fix some issues:
The Hard Power Reset does not install anything on your computer, it does not remove anything from your computer, and the Reset does not change or update any of the programs on your computer.  Your data and files remain as they were before the reset was applied.
Why a Power Reset might Not Work:
If the issue is more than just entanglement, if the "good instructions" on the computer are not good enough -- that is, if you need an update, a new driver, or if there is a problem that cannot be "untangled", then the Reset will not work.
If there is a hardware problem the Power Reset will not work.
I hope this helps..

hello, i'm new to the forum
i have a problem with my HP Envy Ultrabook 1040EW with the volume buttons (f9, f10 and f11 )
they will only work when i have opened the beats audio application or i've clicked on the speaker sign
were you can slide the volume up and down.
if anyone has the answer or the same issue please reply.
    Thank you very much

    BartB,
Access the BIOS menu and reset the factory defaults.
    1.       Shut down the laptop
    2.       Restart it and tap the F10 key repeatedly
    3.       It should lead you into the BIOS menu
    4.       Press F9 to load defaults and then F10 to save and exit
The compuer should then restart and take you back to your main desktop screen. Once there test out those 3 keys.
Please respond back with your results.
    Thanks

  • HP ENVY (or lack of) m6-n113dx multiple issues!

I purchased this lap-top in Nov. of 2014 only to have to return three weeks later only to  have all the same issues!there are several so ill number them for simplicity.
1.The mouse pad is completely useless. It jumps/skips all over the screen, and opens tabs unintentionally.
    2. I constantly get a drop in internet and recieve a "limited" notification in my Sharing center" .
    3. My home page is Yahoo which taked SEVERAL minuets to load the whole page!
    4. I've posted about this issue TWICE now here on HP, and BOTH times have recived bogus E-mail addresses by HP people whom were "going to help me".  Every time I attempted to send a response I got an error message to send.
    5. The customer service is based out of India, and they have NO CLUE how frustrating this is!
    6. The only "fix' is to disable any up-dates for Window's, or factory reset the compter which has been done several times already with no change in the poor operating of this lap-top.
    7. HP just plain SUCKS! I want my $650 back!
    8. This is a BIG waist of my time......... Thanks HP! I'll spread the work your products are garbage!

  • Lack of Nano 7th bluetooth volume

Lack of volume compared to my Iphone 4S?

Oh yeah, I have the option to switch to media/aux control. I mean my car works fine with the iPhone 5 bluetooth. I mean isn't it the same as the iPod Nano?

  • Is there any way to control the volume on my Apple TV?

Here's the scenario: I have a small amplifier under my couch that controls the speakers connected to my Apple TV. When I use Airplay from my iPhone to listen to music, I'm able to control the volume right from the music App on my phone- this is perfect because I don't like to reach under the couch to change the volume. However, there are two scenarios when I cannot seem to adjust the volume anywhere except on the amp. These are:
First: Using Airplay while playing a video from my MacBook Pro to the Apple TV. In this case, the volume slider in iTunes suddenly has a little lock icon on it and is unadjustable. Is there any way to unlock the volume?
Second: When using the Apple TV directly to play any media- music or movies. The volume up and down buttons on the Apple TV don't control the volume. I'm forced to reach under the couch to adjust the volume- which happens quite frequently. Is there any way to control the output volume of the Apple TV?
The lack of volume control has been super disappointing. I've been a (multiple) airport express user for years so kind of expected Airplay to work the same for video- with the ability to control the volume from whatever device was transmitting. Can anyone help me?

Andrew- this is how I would expect things to work. However, when I use airplay from my iPhone to say, play a youtube video, the volume on the phone is suddenly rendered useless and I'm forced to adjust the amplifier. When I just play audio from the phone, the volume works.
It's the same on my macbook pro. If I mirror the screen, my computer's volume affects the speakers volume. However, if I am in itunes and play a movie and use airplay for that, I get a lock on the volume. Is this a setting somewhere?

  • Headphone Jack and volume control

I have very sensitive headphones and the volume control on the MBP is a bit squirrelly: I plug in the headphones, use Fn+f11 to change the volume to my usual setting (just one tick), go to iTunes to play some tunes and then the loudness is jacked up to the middle setting (which is the setting I use when I use the headphone as a line out hooked up to my stereo). Suffice it to say, my ears are a bit mad at me right now.
Is this a known issue, and how does one post a SW bug to get Apple Support? I tired looking for a file a bug, but I couldn't find it.

    dallen33 wrote:
Why should I come to grips with this? My Windows 7 install on this very MacBook Pro handles volume just fine. I can have my speakers at 50%. Plug in my headphones. Still at 50%, but not deafening.
This is obviously either a) by design or b) a bug. I'll be submitting it to Apple as b.
Many people actually complain about a LACK of volume when using their Macs under windows, dallen33.
The headphone port on the Mac is a "dumb" port. It can't determine the impedance and efficiency of whatever you happen to be plugging into it at the time. If it was "intelligent" it would probably require Apple specific headphones, which would have everyone up in arms about trade restrictions and the like. If it was configured to provide a muted maximum output level suitable for headphones that produce the maximum possible volume then there would be thousands with lower efficiency headphones, including some with very high quality ones, complaining that the sound was too quiet (just as some do about the Windows output level) !
Surely this stuff is pretty easy for people to sort out for themselves. If you have headphones that produce a high output level then turn down the volume slider in iTunes right down before you stick 'em in your ears and then gradually adjust the volume upwards until it is at the level you would like!! If you do this you will find that the volume starts at zero even if the system setting is at maximum.
Alternatively, buy yourselves some high quality, lower efficiency headphones.
    Cheers

  • ITunes crashes upon opening after telling me the volume is turned all the way down....

After updating to iTunes 11.1.3, everything was fine initially. Suddenly though, as of yesterday, my iTunes decided that it was going to turn off it's own program-controlled volume. It was kind enough to alert me to this, and I closed the warning about it and set about raising the volume, wondering why I had turned it down in the first place. At this point though, iTunes had stopped responding at all. So, I forced it to quit, reopened it, and once again it alerted me to the fact that the volume was turned all the way off. Okay, I said, told it not to warn me again, closed the warning and then there was a new alert about the fact that my previous forced closure of iTunes resulted in extra windows being closed that it was now asking me if I wanted to reopen. I can't even click on the "Don't Reopen" button, as the program itself once again stops responding after I acknowledge the first warning about the lack of volume. Anytime I open iTunes it does this (repeated without fail, several dozen times now...). Once iTunes is open, none of the options in the Help or Edit or File or any of those buttons in the taskbar are actually clickable, since I can't do anything before acknowledging the alert about the volume, after which it inevitably stops responding. Tried restarting the Mac to no avail. Tried downloading and installing a fresh iTunes hoping it might repair the damaged files, to no avail. I can't actually remove the current iTunes from the computer since apparently it is 'essential to OS X'. Not really sure how to go about fixing this issue.....could anybody shed some light on this?
    Thanks!

In that case I would reinstall your itunes. It will just install over the top of the existing program. As a precaution it is usually wise to make a copy(Backup) of your itunes folder when installing itunes. It should not affect anything but you never know
You can find the install package for itunes 11 here

  • HT1338 HELP my speakers won't turn on and the volume is greyed out!

    iTunes randomly crashed... hard.
I hard rebooted my computer, and now my speakers won't play any sounds.
when I press the volume keys, the logo for speakers is greyed out, and there is a circle with slash to indicate not allowed.
My volume bar in the menu bar is greyed out as well.
What in the name of all things holy is wrong with it and how can I fix it?

I have gone into the sound settings, and my options for output are the internal speakers, and the audio aggregate device, neither of them work.
I have also tried plugging in and pullin out headphones to no effect, and whenever there is headphones inside the jack, the same lack of volume/ volume options happens.
I even tried resetting the special Rama by restarting and holding command+ alt + r + p, and. It made the startup spud, and nothing else.
If someone could help me, I have a gig in a week, and this is not something I really have the time to deal with.
    Thanks.

  • Connecting a 5th Gen Ipod to 2010 Hyundai Tuscon

Im using a 5th Gen ipod with my new 2010 Hyundai Tuscon. The car is equipped with 2 jacks one is a aux jack for a 2.5mm headphone jack and the other is a USB jack. The dealership gave me a special cable that is fused together. One end has a 2.5mm male plug while the other is a male USB connector which plugs into the car stereo. The other end connects to the bast of the IPOD.
Ive been struggling with this for sometime now months actually.. The issue is.. While my ipod is plugged into the car stereo using the dealership provided cable the sound is dampened pretty much sounds like crap.. Lack of bass sometimes too much treble and sometimes not enough and most times lack of volume. I find myself cranking the main stereo up just to get good sound levels.
At first I was really disheartened as with my previous car it had a 200 watt stereo system in it with infinity speakers and had the same kind of ipod connection and the sound was phenomenal.
However with the Tuscon the sound as I said earlier.. sounds like crap.. I have even went as far as replacing the factory speakers with Alpines which got good reviews.. The sound did improve for the most part but still lacking.
Last night I tried a few experiments and have finally nailed it. The things I tried were:
    1) Using a regular male to male 2.5mm plug to plug into the headphone port on the ipod then connect to the aux port of my car stereo and then used my regular IPOD USB sync cable to plug into the base for data exchange between the car and the IPOD=Unfortunately The Tuscon didnt like that.. it will not connect with the ipod both ports on the car must be utilized somehow at the same time which is ********!
    2) THE WINNING CHOICE= I just stuck with using the 2.5mm male to male cord and connected my IPOD direct to the aux port and omitted the USB connectivity. The sound now has increased 10 maybe even 20 fold.. it actually sounds better than my old car stereo.. The only draw back and I will miss it is that w/o the USB connectivity between the car and th IPOD I will not be able to control the IPOD from my steering wheel or see on the LCD panel of the car stereo what im actually playing.
I did rig the ipod in a cup holder at my side so I can see the ipod screen and use the scroll wheel so im not completely lost.. I just weighed my options $500 + dollars for a new audio system or a rigged ipod to dramatically increase sound quality.. I went with option 2. I think i will be getting an ipod touch eventually though since it has voice control which would be really helpful when you are driving.
Anyways Sorry for the long rant.. I thought I would post this here in case there were other Hyundai Tuscon owners out there beating their brains out like I have been to increase the sound quality. of the factory stereo

  • Suggestion for a needed Walkman app improvement

    Dear Sirs,
Although I’ll sadly have to part from my Sony Z1 (for other issues reported on this forum and to Sony Xperia Care, namely the touchscreen issue), I would still like to leave a suggestion for the most underachieving app (imho) from a Sony Smartphone.
With the long tradition on audio excellence and the Walkman brand, I would suspect that it would be a strong point on a Sony Smartphone. Strangely enough, the Walkman app made me buy a third party app (PowerAmp) to get some basic functionality like I had on my old iPhone 3GS.
One of the most serious faults of the Walkman app is the lack of volume normalization between audio tracks. Although Sony does provide a workaround (which is nothing more than a dynamic range compressor), it doesn’t make any sense (imho) with today’s technology.
Replaygain (for instance) is a free (but very effective) way of normalizing volumes without degrading the sound quality. Many apps like PowerAmp have it, and even iTunes has a proprietary version of it built in on every device for many years now.
As I said before, this can be done with third-party apps and third-party media management software (like JRiver or the free Foobar), but by doing so, the user loses the integration provided by a unique manufacturer (Sony Media Go -> Sony Walkman).
I’m really just trying to help, as it gets harder to understand why Sony lacks on such elementary things audio-wise, when the same company has Walkmans supporting the highest definition audio formats available today.
I tend to relate Sony with high quality digital audio products, so it seems strange that this particular app is so rudimentary on these levels. The Walkman app is eye-candy, but it should also be “hear-candy”, which it isn’t.

You need to pass this on to the Sony delvelopers site as this is a user support forum

  • Preview in browser - Firefox / File not found

    Specs:
    OS X 10.4.7
    Dreamweaver 8.0.2
    Firefox 1.5.0.1
I (and my whole office) am having a major problem. We all
work directly from files on our osx server. When working in
Dreamweaver and trying to "Preview in browser" with Firefox 1.5 we
get a "File not found" error. The problem seems to be stemming from
the path lacking the "Volumes" part of the directory.
    For example:
When I preview in Safari the path is shown as:
    file:///Volumes/Server_HD/Website_Folder/index.html (this
    works)
But on Firefox or Mozilla I get:
    file:///Server_HD/Website_Folder/index.html (this does not
    work)
This problem did not occur in previous versions of Firefox.
Due do this problem, I have virtually eliminated Firefox as part of
my workflow in favor of Safari. I would love to return to Firefox
    can anybody please help me!?

Can you try again please, although not in a narrative? Just
    go to the
ADVANCED tab on the Site Definition panel, and list the
    contents of the
fields you see for Local, Remote, and Testing Categories (no
    need for the
    login info).

  • IPod Video Woes? - Nero Recode 2 Works Great!

Well, like many of you, I've tried to convert video unsuccessfully to my iPod. I've tried Videora, PSP Video 9 and a few other programs. Not ONE of these programs has created a successful video that can be ported to the iPod (even though, for some, that's ALL they are advertised to do). The Videora iPod Converter is a program to convert, yet it doesn't work for me AT ALL... even using the SP modes. Sure, it loads into iTunes fine, but getting it to load into the actual iPod is another, sad, sad story! LOL!
We all are aware that, as of right now, the H.264 codec doesn't seem to be working for many of us and MPEG-4 is, so I finally got my iPod and tried Nero Recode 2 today (part of the Nero 7 Ultra Edition).
Using Nero Recode 2, I was successful in not only creating 320x240 files that loaded into iTunes, but they also loaded right into my new iPod with no playback problems, errors, or skipping. I used a 1.78:1 16:9 source (a DVD that was ripped to my hard drive) and loaded it into Nero using the following settings:
In AUDIO #1 I set it to:
STEREO (CUSTOM PROFILE) LC (LOW COMPLEXITY) NERO DIGITAL AUDIO @ 48,000 Hz and 160 kbit/s
For VIDEO the Setting I used the slider to set the "Video Quality" to 764.6 Kbps
Make sure you UNCHECK the "Fit to Target" box and then click on the VIDEO button on the right (underneath the CHAPTER button). Since it was an anamorphic DVD I was using, I disabled "Deinterlace", disabled "Crop" and I resized to 320x240 and checked the LETTERBOXING (SQUARE PIXEL) box. Checking this box is necessary with anamorphic material so that the final file you create will be properly letterboxed (not stretched) in the 320x240 display on the iPod (it'll have the black bars properly placed at the top and bottom of the video).
Click NEXT after adjusting the above settings...
In NERO DIGITAL SETTINGS, make sure EXPERT MODE is checked.
    Encoding Method = High-Quality Encoding (2 pass)
    Quality/Speed = Extra Quality
Advanced = Check "Simple Profile (QuickTime Compatibility)"
Then hit BURN and come back in a couple hours.
Your file should be done and ready to load onto your iPod with very nice picture and sound quality and in the proper aspect ratio for the iPod screen.
The ONLY thing I wish Nero Recode could do is, like in Videora and PSP Video 9, raise the volume level of the encoded sound. I watched my movie through the headphones on my iPod and it sounded great, but I had the volume turned all the way up to the max. I wish there was a setting to boost the audio a bit, but at least the videos actually WORK!
I hope this helps you all.
I have used the above settings for three films so far and all are fine. They range between 600-800 meg in size. That's big, but I have a 60 gig iPod, so I have plenty of room. If you want smaller files, maybe try 128kbit/s instead of 160 kbit/s for the audio and lower the video bit rate slider a bit.

I have converted 6 movies now with Nero Recode 2 and transferred them to my iPod. The audio ISN'T that low on any of them. As a matter of fact, the audio is perfectly acceptible, but the volume is turned all the way up. At the max volume setting, the audio is at just about the point where my ears want to turn it down, but it's OK.
The main reason why I wish the audio could be boosted a little is because, if the movies are slightly low and I turn up the volume, then I STOP watching a movie and switch to music, the music might be soooo loud, it'll blast my ears because of the volume differences between the two formats (this happened last night and it was certainly annoying). People might forget to turn down the volume when switching programs/audio.
So far NO movie convert app has got all the bells and whistles to be a perfect solution for converting movies.
NERO RECODE works, but lacks a volume adjustment in the files. It also allows you to letterbox your source video properly for the iPod display if you use anamorphic widescreen videos. It also imports DVD VOB files perfectly, with no sync issues.
VIDEORA IPOD CONVERTER does have a volume adjustment capability, but doesn't adjust the 16:9 image to add letterboxing bars for proper playback on the iPods 320x240 screen. It would work for full-screen material, I guess, but it still doesn't work for me on my system for some reason, even in MPEG4 SP mode. The resulting video files DO load into iTunes and can be played on my computer, but not on the iPod. When loading the files to the iPod, the audio plays... the movies don't. Some people are saying Videora works for them, but I can't get anything to play on my iPod using the SP/320x240/768/128 MPEG4 profile. Must have something to do with the fact that I'm using VOB files, maybe?
I've tried PSP VIDEO 9, to no avail, as well...
I guess I could go the whole TMPGENC to 320x240 route and adjust the audio there, but that would mean I'd have to rip and re-encode the video to MPEG2 first, THEN covert again to the iPod MPEG4 format. That would mean re-encoding the audio/video twice (degrading the video even more than it would be otherwise) and it would take MUCH longer to do. But, this being said, it might be the steps I'd need to take to actually get Videora iPod Converter to work properly.
Someone needs to create a program that successfully converts DVD movies directly from the VOB file structure, allows up to 160kbits/s encoding on the audio (as well as audio volume adjustment) and that allows for you to reformat the video to 320x240 letterbox format for 16:9 anamorphic materials. Nero Recode 2 is ALMOST perfect... but not quite... it does do everything except allow volume adjustments in the final MP4 file.
No matter how much people are touting Videora iPod Converter, I just cannot get it to work successfully for what I need. Even if I found a solution to the problem, Videora CANNOT reformat stretched 16:9 anamorphic videos to letterboxed format, like Nero can. Sure, it can CROP... but it cannot RESIZE. I do not want to watch stretched, distorted video on my iPod.

  • Best replacement Headphones for ipod

My family has seven ipods of different sizes and ages. We are constantly stealing each others' ear buds, losing them and breaking them. Every time I look for replacements, either Apple brand or 3rd party, it seems the reviews regarding quality are spotty at best.
What are the best options for replacing ipod ear phones?
    Thanks!

Well, the Bose In-Ear Headphones are pretty good, high-quality, but expensive and don't really help with the Classic's lack of volume.
I have two sets of headphones, both made by Skullcandy (available at Best Buy - at least that's where I got mine). One is their Over-the-Ear Headphones, which have a BASS-Booster built in, and the other is their In-Ear Headphones, which have a volume adjuster on the cord, which does boost the volume just a bit without losing any quality that I can notice.
And you can purchase BOTH sets of the Skullcandy headphones for the price of the highly-rated Bose In-Ear headphones. Personally, if you're looking for a new set of In-Ear Headphones ... I'd go with the ones from Skullcandy.

  • Muvo2.

Just wondering a couple of things as i recently RMA'd my old Muvo2 4gb and just recieved a new one... Its 5gb and doesnt say muvo 2 FM anywhere?! is this just the updated muvo2 4gb as the dri'ves have become cheaper or is it a muvo2 Fm definatly? Also the sound quality doesnt seem quite a as good as my old one, and also seems to be quieter... maybe this is because it needs to be run in for a while or possibly because my headphones have deteriorated... just wondering if there has been any changes to the innards of the muvo 2 now that it seems to be 5gb... eg. lower quality sound chips? ....to make up for the price of the bigger dri've or something? Thanks for replies....Message Edited by Corrupt2k3 on 03-5-2005 07:55 PMMessage Edited by Corrupt2k3 on 03-5-2005 07:57 PM

Ok thats that cleared up... thanks.... but the main problem is the noticable lack of volume and lower quality than my previous one, do you have any ideas about this? i played it to a guy in a shop called audio excellence in bristol today and it said its probably that the amplification whatever it is, is broke, he agreed that it was very quiet even on ?400 headphones.

  • A Nokia N95 owner who just bought a Nokia N91 aswe...

    Hi guys
popped out last night and met a guy off of Ebay, he had a brand new unused Nokia N91 with Version 2 Firmware, he got it as a replacement handset from his 02 insurance and then 2 weeks later he got a Nokia N95
i gave him £110 for it and im pleased with it, stll had the label on the screen! Result!!
i couldnt stand the lack of volume and audio quality while playing MP3`s on my N95, i wll still use my N95 as my main phone but have put a pay as you go simcard in the N91 and will use as a spare mobile whenever i go on a long trip
why is the N91 just so much better at playing MP3`s?
its louder, better sound quality etc
i feel like i been duped getting the N95 when it should have been as good for playing Music
so far the N91 hasnt crashed or rebooted or any of the problems that i had with my previous ones that i sent back with HD problems
anyone else done the same as me?

N91 is better in the audio department.
    N91 has higher output power
N91 has better frequency response (from very low frequencies to very high)
N91 has better SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio, also because it has more output power)
N91 has better THD (Total Harmonic Distortion)
N91 has better response at very low frequencies (10-80 Hz range) thus is much better at outputing bass (not through the internal speaker but through the 3.5 mm connector)
    N91 has better playback time.
    N91 comes with 4GB or 8GB.
I have played with both the N91 and the N95, don't get me wrong, the N95 is not bad, but the N91 is better (WRT audio).
Of course the technical differences in the end mean nothing and unless you really want the best sounding device, then N95 may be good enough for you.
The N91 is not fragile, but it doesn't 'like' some of the third party apps. and that's when you start having probs.
640K Should be enough for everybody
