HP LaserJet 2100TN and MacOS 10.4.2

May wife and I have been using our HP LaserJet 2100TN since a couple of years, originally with her blue/white iBook and my PowerBook Titanium, and since this spring with her 12" PowerBook G4 (867MHz, 768 MB of RAM, MacOS 10.4.2) and my 17" PowerBook G4 (1.67MHz, 1.5 gig of RAM, MacOS 10.4.2), both using our AirPort WiFi home network (the base station with the Ethernet jack in the back). As to the software side, we both do our word processing with Microsoft Word X (Service Pack 1). Everything was just plug&play, WYSIWYG, and fine.
Since a couple of days, however, our LaserJet prints out weird characters in our Word documents, regardless of what PowerBook we print from. The characters are actually still OK, but totally mixed up to nonsense words, and sometimes incorrectly spaced, as well. We first realized this problem when using typical decorative fonts (such as "Party LET"). When things started to deteriorate in "Times", too, we decided to post this SOS.
Does anyone know this problem, and how to fix it? Please note that we already reset the printing system in the pertinent control panel. Besides, we keep presuming that, in Tiger, there are no more HP LaserJet 2100TN drivers to download and install. Oh yeah, and the usual shut down/restart, and quit/re-open procedures do not seem to work, either.
Thanks in advance for your appreciated help!

Give the drivers on HP's site a shot. They are available at:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?pnameOID=149 18&locale=en_US&taskId=135&prodSeriesId=25469&prodTypeId=18972&swEnvOID=219
Technically in most cases you should not need drivers, but the fact that HP's website says "os X 10.4 update" as the driver makes me think they might have a problem with 10.4's stock driver. So give that a shot and let me know if it helps. Good Luck!

  • MacBook Pro can't print to HP LaserJet 2100tn

    Hello,
I have an ethernet-connected HP LaserJet 2100tn in my office. I can print to it from my G4 laptop, but not from my new MBP.
    Some background/info:
-The HP has its IP set correctly and it is on the same network as my Mac. I can print to it from my other Windows and G4 macs.
-The ethernet connections are all working fine
-I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from HP (5.5.2.051). Twice.
-Restarted my Mac and the HP many times.
-I can open the printer's config (web browser) and ping it from my MBP.
    -MacOS is updated.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rich

Not sure if this is relevant, but I had print driver problems after using Migration Assistant. To fix it, I reinstalled the print drivers from the DVD, then re-installed the HPIJS / Foomatic drivers (i'm using an older HP D145, but they should work on your 2100)

  • HP Laserjet 2100TN - how to add IP printer in Snow Leopard

I am not a very technical person, so this was quite an ordeal for me.  I was very frustrated by the process and almost gave up.  I am glad that I did not
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and after many hours of reading blogs and instructions etc. I finally got my HP LaserJet 2100TN network printer to print in SnowLeopard.   I am running a 24" imac.
All of the blogs/support documents tell you that you have to enter the IP address of the printer to set up an IP printer.  To obtain the IP address for the printer, you are told to print a Configuration Page.  But I had no idea how to do that.  So I found a manual online for my printer, learned that if I pressed the Job Cancel and the Go button at the same time that I would print a configuration page.  And it did !!!!  It was listed under Printer Informations as HP JetSend Address: ip: 192.xx.x.xx. (I left out my IP address as yours will be different.)  I then used the Network application located under Utilities, went to PING, entered the IP address and I pinged the printer.  The ping was successful.  Then I used the instructions provided at the link below  to add the IP printer.  Here is the info for the add printer info: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4507.
Here is the link for the LaserJet 2100 manual.
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/bpl06466/bpl06466 .pdf
    Good luck.

Many, many thanks. This worked for me.
My HP 2100TN is connected to a router and pinging the JetDirect ip address didn't work at first. After many tries and variations under "Print & Scan" sys prefs, the ping did work with the JetDirect ip address and I finished connecting by following your helpful instructions and links.
The HP 2100TN now prints from OSX 10.8.5 on a "late 2012" 27-inch iMac. The HP 2100TN printer drivers were copied to the sys printer folder from a previous computer running OSX 10.5.8 and which always printed sucessfully through this same router to the 2100TN and still does.
An even worse problem was trying to log into Apple Support Communities with the "username" endless runaround. I finally got to a "Find my Apple ID" link and discovered I had an old Apple ID which I didn't know still existed. I changed the password on that ID and then logged into ASC using the old ID. The login took me straight into the forum and displayed my old and long-forgotten ASC username for that ID. Why that worked, who knows?

  • HP LaserJet 2100TN printer problems

I am running OS 10.8.2 and recently added a new DLINK wireless router - none of my iMacs can find the HP LaserJet 2100TN printer.  Not sure if this happened when I installed the new router or the last Apple OS update - both were at approximately the same time and the printer did not work afterwords.  Other network MFP printer does work. I can find the IP address from the router so I know it is connected but when I try to add the printer using the IP address it says it can not find the driver from the downloads server.  I downloaded the driver package from the Apple Support site http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907 and installed the package with no improvement.  (I actually could not find anything to run after installing the package.)  Have shut down, rebooted numerous times to no avail.  I've tried different cables and even direct connecting the printer to the computer via ethernet cable (but did not expect this to work.)  Suggestions?  Why does the add printer effort return an error from the downloads server when the dialog says software is available from Apple?

I'm glad you finally succeeded. Your post was one I looked at trying to solve the same problem. But the drivers weren't visible for me after rebooting.
I spent 2 days trying to make my LJ 2100 TN work with OS 10.8.2. The kicker was that when I tried to add the printer to my existing [ethernet] network with my new iMac on Wi-Fi it killed the existing network. No computer could now print! I could still get on-line though.
I did a lot of research on the net; I called my ISP and did learn how to get the IP numbers on each device; I called Mac Tec, they passed the buck, saying because I wasn't using a Mac router they couldn't help.
This post is for others that can't see the drivers they just downloaded. I solved my problem today:
When I tried to add the printer to 'Print & Scan' the 'Add' window comes up; and even though I made the 2.12 download, there were no print drivers to be seen. Apple in it's infinite wisdom left out the 'Advanced' icon in the 'Add' window! Right click the header and add it. Now there is a function to actually search for the print drivers.
You will have to choose 'Type'. I tried a few but 'Jetdirect' worked best for me. NOTE: your printer should be on before you make your choices in the 'Add' window.
Add your printer's IP number in the 'URL' field.
In the 'Use' field, select your proper print driver.
If you did it all correctly, the 'Add' button will light up and hopefully add a new printer to the 'Print & Scan' window.
Good luck. [I also had the delete and replace the printer on my other 2 computers in the network to make them able to print again.]

  • Is my LaserJet 2100tn compatible with Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks?

I would like to upgrade my Mac to OS 10.9 Mavericks, but I have an old HP LaserJet 2100tn.  Will that printer be compatible with the new OS?  I am currently printing to the 2100tn from OS 10.7.5 - Lion.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hello
Yes, if your HP LaserJet 2100tn was working with OS X 10.7 or 10.8, it will continue to work fine with new OS X Mavericks after an OS upgrade
If you have a new Mac or clean OS X Mavericks system, HP also provides the LaserJet 2100tn driver via Apple Software Update.  Just make sure the printer is turned on and connected to the Mac when you create (add printer) the printer queue

  • Connect HP laserjet 2100TN to Imac 10.8 via ethernet cable

I want to connect my old HPlaserjet 2100tn to my new imac os 10.8 computer.  Apple and HP say it is compatible.  The printer was hooked to my G5 via the ethernet cable and worked fine.  There is no usb hookup for this printer that I can find.
I am able to find an IP address for the printer via network, the print/scan finds the printer and adds it, driver is in place (after some searching from apple) and everything looks good.  Only problem is it does not print.  Get error message saying the printer doesn't exist and some other similar messages.
Have spent way too much time talking with apple and HP andit apears I know more about this than them anyway.  It's too big a challenge I think.
Do I need to run through my router (old airport base staion that works just fine...looks like a spaceship) which has a port for another ethernet cable?  My internet is wireless, this printer in not wireless capable (IR though..old), but can I hook it in and operate that way without srewing up my wireless internet?
Come on...someone has the simple answer to this question.  Just want to use my old postscript laser printer every now and then.
    Thanks for your help.

This may not help at all, but I have an HP Color LaserJet 2605dn, and one day it just stop being part of my network, as far as I could tell. Would not print, could not be found on the network, even after manually putting in network information.
I reset the printer. I did a NVRAM initializer and a Super NVRAM initializer. I found out how from the service manual for the printer.
I the setup the printer again, like I had taken it out of the box new.
Runs fine. Prints, is found on the network, can use the web based software it has in it.
Maybe this may work for you.
    Good Luck.

  • HP LaserJet 2100TN Errors in Leopard

Greetings! First off, I must say that after searching the forums for the past hour, I've been impressed with this community, particularly Andrew (the HP developer). Unfortunately, I didn't find an answer, thus this posting!
I upgraded to Leopard about two months ago, and I get intermittent errors. I've outlined them below. I am connect via the IP JetDirect protocol.
The error usually comes when I'm printing certain graphics-intense files (such as a Microsoft Word document with several image files embedded). Here's an example of a page issued by the printer:
    ERROR: undefinedresult
    OFFENDING COMMAND: xshow
    STACK:
    [65.2 36.2 56.0 61.0 54.0 23.0 73.2 56.0 21.0 61.0 53.1 27.9999 23.0 0.0 ]
    (!"#$%&’#($)*&&)
If I connect to my HP LaserJet 3330 (via USB), I'm able to print the same file fine!

After the most recent security upgrade, my LaserJet 2100TN ceased to function completely (Error: Printer not responding).
I had emailed HP some time ago asking if and when they were going to support the Leopard upgrade with new drivers. I got the following response, which I finally did today, and it works beautifully. It even fixed the Tray 1, 2, manual feed issue that someone mentioned above.
    "Hello ,
Thank you for contacting Hewlett-Packard's Commercial Solutions Center.
We understand that you are not able to print from OS 10.5 using your HP LaserJet 2100.
Regarding the Mac OS 10.5 when you make the upgrade or a brand new installation the Operating System should already come with the HP Drivers pre-installed and those are the ones who work with that OS. Also you can go to the Print & Fax Window and then you highlight the printer and go to options & supplies then go to drivers and from there you check what driver are you using can also select the Generic Postscript driver that should also be compatible with that printer and with your Operating System.
NOTE: Installing the Software from the HP Website might create you conflict since the drivers come already preinstalled with the OS. So we recommend doing an uninstall and then manually install them from Leopard DVD.
    Removing the .gz file:
Double-click the hard drive icon, by default labeled Macintosh HD.
    Double-click Library.
    Double-click Printers
    Double-click PPDs folder.
    Double-click Contents.
    Double-click Resources.
Scroll through the list until you find the HP Laserjet 2100 Series.gz file; single-click it and drag it to the Trash.
    Restart and empty trash
    Delete the printer
    Install HP Drivers for Leopard
Insert your Leopard installation DVD, click on the Optional Installs icon
    Then Optional Installs.mpkg
    Then Continue
    Agree to the License
Then from the Custom Install window click on the arrow next to the Printer Drivers
Then put a checkmark on the Hewlett-Packard Printer Drivers and then click on continue
Finish the installation and then restart your Mac.
    Add the printer again.
    Then try Printing.
Once again, thank you for contacting Hewlett-Packard's Commercial Solutions Center."

  • I'm using an older iMac G5 (PowerPC) with Firefox and MacOs 10.5.8. I no longer am able to watch video clips because Firefox recently auto-updated to 3.6.24; is there an older version of FireFox that would work with my PowerPC, and where do I find it

I used to be able to watch video clips off a streaming website, but it's been getting more difficult and now it no longer works. I suspect that my older Power PC G5 Mac is not compatible with the newer Firefox version of 3.6.24. I suspect that if I used an older version of Firefox with my system, I could get back to watching video clips. Would this work, and if so, where can I download an earler version of Firefox that would be compatible with my Mac and MacOs 10.5.8?

You might want to consider extending the lifespan of your G5 by using a different operating system. I put [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubuntu Lubuntu] on a G5 recently and it runs the newest Firefox just fine. Lubuntu (pronounced Loo-boon-two) is sort of an Ubuntu lite - a user-friendly version of Linux. There are many applications to choose from, and it's all free.
The PowerPC I did this on was one of the old Bondi Blue ones. Firefox had no problem running on it at all and has all plug-ins needed for video, audio, etc.. I gave it to a church and it's running fine for them.
You can download old versions of Firefox, but you'll just open yourself up to security problems if you do.
FYI: The Mac operating system is built on Linux.

  • Printing problem-new HP Laserjet P2015 and VERY slow printing-

I have a new HP Laserjet p2015, and while it does print, it is VERY slow—typically about 1 page per minute even for plain black-and-white Word documents. Much time spent with HP support, even got a new new machine… they're out of ideas and think it might be OS related…
Where do I begin to troubleshoot this?
Printer is connected directly to computer via USB.

I have downloaded new drivers, removed and added the printer multiple times, etc. As I mentioned, I've spent a few hours with HP support, tried new USB cable, even got a new machine. They now believe it's something with my system.
Any reason to believe that reinstalling my system software will help?
By the way: Printing from Text Edit is not faster. Or if it is, not very. In any case, it's not a realistic solution

  • HP Laserjet 4000 and 6L in Windows 7 - cannot locate drivers

I recently purchased an Asus laptop, Windows 7 operating system, 64-bit. I am trying to install HP LaserJet 4000 and HP LaserJet 6L printers to this computer with a parallel-to-USB cable.
The computer allows me to install the 6L, and the printer appears in “Devices and Printers.” However, I cannot print pages.  I checked with the Windows Compatibility Center website, and this printer is supposed to run in Windows 7 without additional drivers.  Restarting has not helped.
The HP LaserJet 4000 will not install. I went to HP’s website and found the page for LaserJet 4000 drivers.  There are two boxes on this page: “Drivers” and “Universal Print Drivers.”  The driver listed under “Drivers” does not have a download button, only an “Obtain Software” link giving me instructions on navigating to the very page I am on.  I am not sure what Universal Print Drivers are or if they are what I should be installing.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are Laserjet 4000 drivers available through Windows Update.  Go to Start, Devices and Printers, Add a Printer, select the proper port, then click on Windows Update.  After a few minutes the list will repopulate, next select HP (not Hewlett-Packard) and select the appropriate driver.  Note you will need an appropriate driver for your USB-parallel cable.

  • HP LaserJet 1160 and Airport Express

I recently got an HP LaserJet 1160le and wanted to hook it up to my network using an Airport Express. I have used other printers with the airport express in its current config with no problems, but now I have an issue.
If i plug the printer directly into my powerbook via USB, the driver is automatically detected and everything is spiffy. When I add the printer through Bonjour, it doesn't detect the driver. The 1160 and 1320 are nearly identical and the drivers are almost the same, so I choose the 1320 driver.
When I print i get a single page with a few lines that state:
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0 %RBINumCopies: 1
There are a few more lines but nothing that really seems to point to the problem. When I try and add the same printer to an XP Pro machine the Bonjour Printer Wizard tells me I don't have proper privillages to add the printer through Bonjour. Anyone have any ideas or solutions?

Just as a quick sidenote, I failed to mention that I was able to get it to work on my XP Pro machine selecting 1100 series as my driver. It seems this is only related to my two macs.
