HP model DV7 1245dx Notebook

Does the HP DV7 1245 notebook laptop have a cd or dvd burner. If it has one how would you use it?

Hello,
You can create your own Recovery Media by running "HP Recovery Manager " from your desktop.
You can also run a REcovery ( backup first ) by turning on teh computer - and selecting F11 to go into Recovery Manager.
Here are more instructions:

You can also run the HP Support assistant to get all the necessary drivers

  • HP DV7-1245DX Sees no boot devices

I have a HP DV7-1245DX Notebook computer. It was running slow, so went to reset it, and it came up with the error "03F0" which then says "No boot device present, Install operating system".
Thinking the hard drive had died or got corrupted but this code continued when the hard drive had been removed, and the system would find no other boot devices. I tried bootable cd's, dvd's and a bootable USB stick that I know works, and the system does not see any.
The odd thing is it CAN run a disk scan on the hard drive when its plugged in. It just does not see it in the boot manager. The boot manager is actually blank, showing no options for devices. I setup the boot order properly, and made sure "cd drive" was enabled as a boot device, but this changed nothing. I tried bios defaults also.
I removed the memory, tested each individually, unplugged the power and cmos and put everything back in, plugged in another hard drive with a different windows install, nothing changes the error.
I put the original hard drive in an enclosure and ran a MBR rebuild on it with EASEUS, and a disk scan which returned no errors, the system still could not boot to the device.
The only thing I can think at this point is that the disk controller went bad, or the BIOS is corrupted. Since this system sees absolutely NO boot devices I don't have an idea on how to reflash the bios.
    Thanks for your responses

    Hi,
I would tend to agree with your conclusion that the sata controller has failed ( usually, a bad bios is more obvious as the notebook will not POST ).
If you look in the Bios Menu, does it recognise any bootable devices available?

  • Pavilion dv7-1245dx loads apps slowly, freezes w white screen, hangs with rotating icon

I have dv7-1245dx, less than 1 year, running Windows 7, Norton, Microsoft Office apps, esp Outlook, use several real estate apps that are web-based. I'm trying to run my business with this machine, but am having constant performance problems: loads apps very slowly (1-2 minutes), freezes at random times (no pattern I can detect) and the screen turns white, or system just hangs and displays the rotating icon endlessly. Usually, my only resort is a hard shutdown (ctr-alt-del doesn't work as it won't take any input). Have run optimization/maintenance tools, had repair person and geek squad look at it, but either it seems fixed then starts these behaviors again in a week or so, or they say they can't diagnose any problems with the maintenance tools.  Can anyone help me? Thx!

I have the same issue with a Pavilion DV7 19xx running vista home premium, it freezes every 20 seconds for a minute, so that it appears that the programs are not responding, however after a minute or so it starts to run normally., only to freeze 20 seconds later again, something impossible to fix,I tried to run a chcdisk, with no positive result, and the restore point seems to have been lost or deemed invalid...
This even happens in all fail safe modes
So I downloaded the service manual, as the warranty has expired on this particular model that was a replacement model for another model that went bust and was given to us instead of very severely mal-designed laptop, that either was a Monday model, or was bad from the design out...
I opened it(the new model), and the cooling ribs was full of dust, and this on a model that is less than a year old(however without warranty due to specific circumstances). A PC requires service, just like a car, but not in less than a year...
    in regard to heat problems..
This model as the former, got so hot that it was to hot to sit on my wifes lap, I would even state that it is a fire hazard, and that HP should look into this NOW before it ignites a fire somewhere and a law suit drops in and they would have to recall PCs like auto mobiles sometimes get recalled..
there is an open space, just behind the cooling ribs where a fan draws in air (and dust), however the ribs spacing is so small that any dust will get caught there, after a while there is so much dust that the heat sinking performance is lost and the PC starts to shut down, due to overheat.. however, it can stall, and just keep on heating, until it reaches some critical point.
I am generally getting very tired of these issues with HP laptops, and will most certainly not buy one, the next time my wife needs an Upgrade due to my experiences with not 1 but 2 different laptops, that is not up to the job, they claim to be...
In fact, I'm speculating in submitting a complaint, to my countries "ombudsman", that takes care of these issues and can invoke certain penalties on companies who are breaking certain marketing laws such as supplying products that continuously keeps breaking down... due to mal design.. a mal design is for example when a speeder in a car jams.
I would still be great-full for any advice on how to fix the freezing problem..
I cannot recommend though to open your laptops without you being a skilled technician, and you will need the service manual to do it..
Any advice/recommendation is welcomed, although I'm not optimistic..
I'm 36 years old and have been working with computers since I was 12, so I'm not some kid that is just mad, in fact I do understand that sometimes in order to earn money in these days, things are getting rushed, and when they do, errors happen as we are all humans..

  • About the battery... HP(Model: dv7-6c95dx)

Will the battery of my HP(Model: dv7-6c95dx) get damaged as I use it while still plugged in even it's already fully charged?

    No. It won't.
It should be used as a primary power source at least once in a while so it will go through a complete discharge and charge cycle. Otherwise, battery capacity will become somewhat dimished over time. The Tune-Up utility in the HP Support Assistant and in the BIOS (of recently manufactured notebooks) will calibrate and reset the 100% full capacity point of your battery. The Tune-Up utility sould be used every couple of months.
If your notebook is used as a desktop replacement and is almost never on battery power the the battery should be removed and stored ( at @40%) in a cool place.

  • Dv7-1245dx

working fine, laptop went to sleep and now wont come out of it. Have done hard reset many times. nothing.
I removed all the memory chips NO ERROR BEEPS
    removed harddisk NO ERROR BEEPS
    No post BEEPS
lights all work across the top harddisk light works, power light indicates its on and charging.
Thinking bad mainboard or and CPU.....
    IDEAS?
is this laptop one that is included in the class action lawsuit ?

No class action. That was the dv9000 which looks pretty similar. The class action was long closed, however. I tend to agree it is likely the motherboard. The dv7-1000 AMD models have not been without issues and they can be repaired with a "reflow" like the dv9000s. There are several competent shops advertising their services on ebay. This is an example.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Pavilion-DV7-1245dx-DV7-1135nr-DV7-1130US-Laptop-Motherboard-Repair-Servi...
If you can remove the motherboard (not for the novice) you can get it done even cheaper.

  • DV7-1245dx Touchpad Problem

The touchpad on my dv7-1245dx has gone wild on me.  It is slow to respond and seems to jump over on-screen buttons making them hard to select.  I fiddled with the options to know avail.  Any idea how I fix this?

    Hi,
Try the following and see if it makes any difference.
First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45623.exe
Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.
When this has completed, shut down the notebook.
Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • My HP dv7-1245dx (intel processor) keeps locking up when loading Windows Vista

    Hi All,
I am someone can help me with this particulary frustrating problem.  I have an HP dv7-1245dx that keeps locking up once you see the windows screen with the 'chaser bar' scrolling.  Shortly after I hear a 'pop' on the speakers (I am assuming it was loading the audio driver) it consistenly locks up; the scroll bar stops... and that is it!!  I first tried checking the bios for function, and the computer did lock up when the 'long hard disk diagnostics) starts.  The memory is fine, and the quick disk drive check worked fine.  Couldn't even find a BIOS version online to reload.  I recently duplicated and replaced the old hard drive with a bit-for-bit copy.   I put the OLD drive back in thinking the new hard drive were somehow currupted, but the exact same thing happened.
I ordered recovery discs because I couldn't find my originals... initially.   I tried both sets, and the same thing continues to happen after reading the first disk, then seemingly going back to the hard drive.  Let me say this, the recovery utility sucks!!  You would think it would take ready command and control of the computer, allowing one to make changes.  I think this is Carly Forina's fault!!
Do I need to buy new Vista OS copy and reload??  Has anyone experienced the same thing??  I would appreciate any help in the right direction anyone is willing to offer me.  Thank you in advance!!

    Hi @windoz
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are having some problems getting your Windows Vista to load properly. Buying another copy of Windows Vista and reloading most likely isn't going to help you here. It does look like a hardware issue. If you have tried two different hard drives and the memory test comes up fine then it either the cable connecting the hard drive or the processor on the motherboard. I would recommend having someone take a look at the notebook.

  • How do I install a 512MB SSD in my ENVY dv7-7212nr Notebook PC?

My dv7-7212nr Notebook has a 640GB HDD & a 32GB MSATA running Windows 8.1 on Intel 4-core CPU. I bought a Crucial 512GB SSD and an Install Kit with cloing software. I cloned the drive onto the new SSD with no issues. I removed the HDD and installed the new SSD.
Upon boot up got "Your PC needs to be repaired Error Code 0xc000025".
I removed the new SSD and reinstalled the original HDD and it booted up fine. I removed the HDD again and installed the new SSD but this time I also removed the existing 32GB MSATA SSD (what a pain getting to it).
Upon boot up I got "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed Error Code 0xc000225"
The new SSD shows up in the bios boot order.  What am I doing wrong?

Just boot from it and select repair your computer
    Here is a Microsoft tutorial:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/how-do-i-fix-a-boot-startup-problem
You are going to perform a startup repair and it should replace boot files onto the SSD. The files you cloned from the old drive onto the SSD should be enough for the repair disk to see that there is a repairable Windows 8.1 installation on the drive and put the extra files needed to boot up onto it. It could take 2 or 3 restarts.

I have the exact same problem.  I noticed this started after some windows update just prior to upgrading to Windows 7.  And then it got worse after the upgrade.
I'm having to go into the task manager and end the smartmenu.exe application just to stop the nagging volume bar across the middle of the screen and just to use the computer, but the Volume still jumps around rapidly.
Please, HP read this and help.

  • How do I get my dv7-7212nr notebook to recognize a second HHD?

I installed a 512GB SSD as my main drive on my ENVY dv7-7212nr Notebook. I removed the partitions and formatted the original 750GB HDD. I bought the HP kit for the second drive and installed it onto the HDD.
Issue 1:  There are no mounting threads in drive bay 2 for the 2 screws to attach the HDD bracket to the notebook. They are obvious in the drive one bay. Is this a factory oversight or do I need to order something else?  I jerry-rigged  it temporarily.
Issue 2:  After I installed the formatted HDD the system would not recognize it. I can't see it in the BIOS, or Disk Manager or Disk Partition Manager Pro.
    Suggestions?

    Hi,
Issue 1: No, you have to by caddy and cables for the second bay. The following part would do:
                   http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=498
Issue 2:  Please fix the isue 1 first.

  • Microphone not working on dv7 Pavilion Notebook (Windows 7)

The microphone on my dv7 Pavilion Notebook is not working.  I checked the sliding volume controls and have tried updating my drivers.  A few weeks ago, I “unchecked” a few startup items using msconfig.  Is it possible, I “unchecked” an item related to the microphone?  Please advise
In addition, I tried updating the CyberLink YouCam software, but I am unable to uninstall the existing software in order allow the updated software to properly install.  When uninstalling the program, I receive a “1628 Fail” notification.  Is there another way to force the  un-installation of CyberLink YouCam?
    Pavilion Notebook dv7
    Operating System:  Windows 7
    Product Number:  A1L75AV
    Serial Number: [Personal Information Removed]
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
First, regarding the microphone problem, try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58001-58500/sp58226.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again before cheecking if the microphone works.
Regarding being unable to uninstall Cyberlink Youcam, see if you can remove it using the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the following link - this is particularly useful in correcting issues on machines running a 64bit OS.

Well, it's good to know that something does work, since disabling it and enabling it helps. This leads me to believe that there is no hardware issue, which is good.
I think an uninstall and reinstall of the OS will help things.
First, you should backup your data. I will provide information on how to do that: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7)
Once this is done, it is safe to do the System Recovery. Here is some information on how to do this: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)

  • How to disable touchpad when usb mouse in on HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏ using Windows 7

I would like to have my touch pad disabled when using my USB mouse or otherwise be able to manually disable it.  It is a pain to use when typing with the touch pad enabled but I would like to use the touch pad on occasions such as when I am traveling or if my mouse goes out. Not to mention, I would need to re-enable the touh pad if for some reason I have no mouse (keyboard shortcut?)
I am using windows 7 on my HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏

This is what it looks like.
You should consider returning you notebook to the Windows 8 OS. There are many new features that it has that Windows 7 never did. Download use the free open source software called classic shell to give yourself a start button in Windows 8 that even has more features than Windows 7 start buton does. Once you use Windows 8 for a while you will enjoy it, especially the refresh feature and lower memory use.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Windows 7 drivers.
