HP printer went down.  It's new.  Do I need to un-install the driver before re-installing?

My printer just stopped working.  It's new, and I bought it at the Apple store when I bought my MacBook Pro.  I had a twenty-year hiatus from Mac as everything at work was PC.  Still learning Mac again.
I've tried all the obvious things to make my computer work.  The printer page says it's offline.
On PC, I would go to applications file, find the printer software/driver and uninstall it.  Then, I would install it again.  I find no corresponding file on this computer.  Doesn't mean it's not there, just that I don't know where.

Resetting the printing system doesn't affect the already-installed drivers, and you shouldn't need to do anything with those anyway.
Resetting the Printing System affects all installed printers, they will become uninstalled printers.

    When you say you changed you password - was this for the same Apple ID, or did you just log into icloud using a different Apple ID and password?  If it was a different ID, then you are now connected to a different account, hence that is why you went back to 5 GB.

  • New SSD and need drivers to install , but...

      So I am trying to restore  a portege R705-p42.... Its hard drive broke and I have no recovery disk. I replaced the hdd with a SSD , and loaded up windows 7 iso from a  usb , the installation went well . its needs at least , network and other driversI downloaded them to usb and install them on the toshiba , but they dont appear to work i did  manage to get  intel LAN driver to work , but   somehow it still wont fully connnect (connected but no access) ... other drivers go through the install but  dont appear to work ... Is there something i can do to get these drivers to install properly ?  thanks for any help

    You need to install essentially all of the drivers and utilities at the site above for the laptop to work as designed. And the order matters. I don't have the time or patience and prefer to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
    If you failed to create recovery media, you can obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.

  • My old motherboard went down and now trying to transfer old bookmarks from old hard drive to new installation, any ideas how i can do it ?

    Trying to import my old book marks from my old version of firefox on my old hard drive which I now have as a buddy onto my new system and re installed firefox. Any one have any ideas ?

  • My unit went down hill fast from trying to boot up to only the power supply fan runs.

    The power on lite is on. The DVD lite flashes then stops. The card reader lite is on. Is this the end of days for this piece of junk!!

    I've also responded to your other post about support, and asked there for some of your specifics - contact info, system model type and serial on bottom of the unit, and your last case number.  If you could send me those in a private message (little envelope in the forum), I'll try to arrange some further help.
    By your post title, I get the broad strokes of the matter - it's gone from bad to worse.   In order to get more valuable help from other's in the forum, it is helpful to provide some details.
    What model desktop system do you have?    What has been happening that led up to these recent events?  Was anything changed or added to the system?
    No video?  No beeps?    You note the power supply / fan spins.  How about the hard disk, can you hear it spin up?

  • New to Forms, need help in Installing the Summit Application

    Can someone guide me in installing Summit appl. and a runtime env. configuration. I am using 10g Dev. and 10g DB.
    I have put the complete summit folder (got it from OTN) in C:/ and was successful in importing the summit data from the command line.
    the problems i am facing are:
    *Should i directly point to the summit folder in the c:/ while entering values for forms_path in the registry?
    *next point in the readme file says
    compile the application. The file gen.bat will generate files under microsoft windows. What application should I compile and how?

    The first thing you must realize is that this Demo is very old and was created for a very old Forms version (6.0.x). At least three new releases have come out since this demo was created.
    The documentation for the demo is specific to that old version. Every reference to "60" should be removed. For example a reference to FORMS60_PATH has now been changed to FORMS_PATH. This applies to ALL variables.
    The same applies to file names. For example f60all.jar is now frmall.jar. Same is true for f60all_jinit.jar, which is now frmall_jinit.jar.
    So, as you can see copying the README word for word is going to cause you problems.
    Here is an overview of what you likely need to do based on your last update:
    1. Verify that you successfully imported the database objects related to the demo. Login as summit and see if the tables and data actually exist. If not, this should be corrected first.
    2. Whether you use default.env or summit.env is entirely up to you. If you choose to use default.env, the only thing I can think of that would need to be changed is the FORMS_PATH. Add the path to where your FMX, MMX, and PLX files will be located.
    If you choose to use summit.env, copy the file to ..\forms\server (this is the same directory where you will find default.env). Open this file in a text editor. You will need to change all of the "60" references like I previously mentioned. You will likely also need to change the value of ORACLE_HOME as well as many others. This is why using the existing default.env would probably be easier.
    If you carefully read the contents of summit.env, you should be able to understand what needs to be changed. I'm sure many of the directories noted in the file won't even exist. You need to set them to the equivalent on your system.
    3. If you plan to use a "gen.bat" file to compile the application, you will likely need to open it in a text editor first. Verify that FORMS_PATH, ORACLE_HOME, PATH and all other variables are correctly set.
    4. If you are using Developer Suite there is no Apache, so setting the Alias is a little different. However, as previously mentioned, this is unnecessary anyway IF you copy the demos CLASS and JAR files to the ..\forms\java directory. You will then not use the Alias reference in your ARCHIVE and ARCHIVE_JINI entries. For example simply do this:
    archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar,RoundedButton.class
    archive=frmall_jinit.jar,RoundedButton.class
    5. As mentioned, your formsweb.cfg entries will look like this and should be at the bottom of the file below the existing entries:

    The reference to serverApp is for access to the .dat file, which I will assume you have in your C:\summit directory. Again, remove the Alias reference and copy the file within the Oracle Home where the original is found. If the demo .dat file is named "Registry.dat", rename the original so you can revert back to it later.
    This file should be stored in:...\forms\java\oracle\forms\registry
    If you really want to create the Alias and follow the instructions as closely as possible, you will find that the Alias should be configured in the following:
    ...\j2ee\DevSuite\application-deployments\forms\formsweb\orion-web.xml
    Use the existing entries as an example. Your entry will look something like this:
    <virtual-directory virtual-path="/summit" real-path="C:\summit" />
    If you are new to all of this, I would recommend that you flip through some of the documentation. Starting with a demo before understanding how the product works is probably not the best approach. Here are some references to useful documentation. References to additional documentation can be found in link on these pages. Be aware that most documentation which was created for Forms 9.0.4 will still apply to 10.1.2.

  • Safely Dismounting External Drive before Log Out or Shut Down?

    Hi folks!
    Just recently set up Time Machine with a Western Digital USB 320 GB My Passport Essential portable external HDD. Back ups are working just fine, but, should I decide to keep the drive permanently connected to the computer, does each user on our Mac need to dismount (eject) the drive before logging out or shutting down?

    I have a similar problem with an OWC mercury 2 tb exhd, though I am not using it for time machine. just video production back up.
    When the MacPro is put to sleep, the OWC exhd stays on and running, then when the MacPro is awakened, the drive dismounts itself with a warning. Spent 6 months (no exaggeration) sending it to OWC 3 times and also running tests, sending system reports, swapping everything one could think of. Older LaCie drives humming along throughout, no problem. The exhd does not do this when used with a macbook, or an older powerbook.
    OWC finally concluded it must be something the macpro is doing or did to the drive.
    This of course makes me uneasy about buying more drives, but I need them.
    I have found discussions on line now describing similar issues with a Gtech drive.
    So Apple! what do you say? can you help? can you reply with a copy to my email so that i am aware of it?

  • Paid off $8000 of CC debt and score went down!????..HELP!

    Got some advice here on the forum a little over a month ago. had some money to pay towards outstanding debt and got solid advice as far as what to pay off to have the most impact on my score. Heres were i was to begin with and were i am now in regards to debt. chase slate cc.............................................$3050 balance and a $3200 limit.Chase freedom cc......................................$6000 balance and a $6000 limitCapital one cc.............................................$2050 balance and a $2500 limit. AFTER:Chase slate.................................................$0 balance and $3200 limitChase freedom...........................................$2700 balance and a $6000 limitCapital one..................................................$0 balance and a $2500 limit. I have a few other issues on my CR that have remained the same. Short sale a little over 3 years ago. ex wife and i got stuck with a $10,000 balance we pay at 0% interest. She has made two (2) 30 day + late payments here and there is nothing I can do. have contacted the owner of the debt and they have us both on the hook for the now $7000 balance and will not give that up no matter how I plead. I pay half and she pays half. I also have 2 collections on there. one is about 3 years old, medical for $520 and the other is pretty new. $100 and I have zero idea where it came from..my guess is the ex wife as during our year long divorce I was forced to keep her covered under my health insurance policy and im guessing she went to the doctor and never ponied up for copay. I never ever received anything in regards to this and have no clue what it is for.  I make $60,000 annualy so I think my debt to income ratio is fairly good. No car payment. havent pulled my fico scores through MY fico but have used credit karma and my score with transunion went down 2 points to 540! and my equifax remained the same at 601.  not sure about the accuracy of Credit karma, My girlfriend also uses it she is listed at 798 and her actual fico is 802.  All her scores are within 5 points. also used bankrate.com and they give me 605.  To put things in perspective transunion had me at 672 in january and equifax had me at 660. I was forced to use apply for and use the above cards due to divorce costs ($34,000 total, yeah obscene I know) and almost max them resulting a large drop but since paying them I dont understand why no change. I used annualcreditreport to pull my 3 free reports and they show almost all of the reduced balances. One doesnt show the cap 1 card as paid off.  I am at a loss here as to what to do. Help!

Help!The answer to your question is - Its Credit Karma! Some other observations: 1) A 2 point change is not a drop - thats noise.2) your annualcreditreport.com pull showed the Cap One balance - Obviously it has not hit your reports yet. So thats two of three cards with a large balance. No prizes awarded for that.  Once you get the Chase Freedom balance under $600, and the Cap one balance reports - THEN check your scores out. One last question - is there any charged off revolving accounts showing an unpaid balance?

    Thank you, I've tried the support tips (resetting the network, checking security settings, etc.) and rebooting the network devices several times to no avail. I've actually been working on this for several days (when I can afford to have the network down).
    What I have to determine is what has changed in the setup...from when it WAS working just fine with all devices.

    If your App pool in IIS manager went down, did you check the IIS log for troubleshooting?
    Did you configure AAM for your environment?

I now want to download the app again through MY account. When I click INSTALL it asks for ID, but it shows up automatically with the other person's ID, so I delete that and enter mine instead. I then click SIGN IN, but then it says "Unknown error", then I click OK, then it says "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (4)". How do I get rid of all info of other people's IDs so I can get the app through my account again?
    The app that I'm trying to download actually might have been a pirated app. But I deleted it, so why is it not letting me get it through my account?

  • Transition advices to new Mac Pro needed

    hi everyone ... I would like to ask your opinion in how to transition from my old Mac Pro to the new one that will arrive soon.
    my main concern is my old habit in using the 4 hard-drive slots of my old MP for so many years now:
    disk 1: contains the operating system with basic data
    disk 2: contains my main data I use every day for work
    disk 3: time-machine backup
    disk 4: bootcamp
    basically I would like to keep a similar setup but so far I have seen only raid systems available for Thunderbolt 2 storage devices and I don't see the possibility to use a raid system and splitting it up the desired way.
    1) in your opinion would it be a good solution to buy 3 external Thunderbolt HDD housings and use my existing HDD's?
    2) so far I have seen only Thunderbolt 1 housing's without HDD's. but am I right that 10GB/sec is enough for read/write data transfer-speed?
    3) or should I change my old habit and get used to a Raid-system and use Thunderbolt 2? (but what to do with bootcamp and time-machine?)
    my second concern is about my 2 displays I use that are connected via DVI:
    4) will a "simple" DVI adapter to Mini DisplayPort do the job in connecting my displays or do I need a special adapter?
    and finally your advice for all the CD/DVD's:
    5) what device would you guys recommend for reading and burning CD/DVD's with the new MP?
    looking forward to the new MP but very afraid of all the needed extra devices and cables with the "mess" they will be creating around my work-aera!

    Same issue here.  Here's my suggestion:
    1.  Purchase a Pegasus2 R4 empty RAID from the Apple store.  Thunderbolt2.  Move your drives there.  If you want to keep your same setup, you're done, but then you are losing the advantage of not having the redundancy of RAID, such as RAID5, RAID10, or RAID6.
    2.  Purchase Apple's minidisplay port to DVI adapters for $99 ea.
    3.  Lots of options for CD/DVDs.  Here's one that was designed for the new MacPro:  http://www.numac.co or use the existing ones in your old MacPro, as explained below.
    While I wait for my MacPro to arrive, I am using a MBAir 2013, a MacPro 2006, a 30" cinema display, a bluetooth keyboard & trackpad, and a Pegasus2 with four new 4TB drives (Seagate NAS) in a RAID6 yielding 8TB of storage with dual redundancy (two drives can fail out of 4).  The old MacPro is connected via wifi file/display/CD&DVD sharing.  The MBAir is connected to the Pegasus2 which also is connected to the cinema display.  The MB Air's lid is closed and accessed with Apple's bluetooth keyboard and trackpad.  Not only do I have 8TB of new storage, but I can access all the drives in the old MacPro.  The two CD/DVD drives on the MacPro remain available, if needed.  I will get rid of the old MacPro once the new one arrives and replace the MB Air with the new MacPro, so I will need to buy an external CD/DVD drive.  8TB of storage is enough.

    I have files on my PC and planned on putting them on a new external HD to transfer to the iMac.
    I have a new MiniStack V3 external HD with USB and Firewire connections. It comes formatted for the Mac.
    I want to format the HD on the iMac to MS-DOS so I can connect it to my PC; pull off my files; and reconnect to the Mac; pull over the files; and then reformat the external HD for the Mac.
    Going into the disk utility I gathered the Erase tab is how you reformat. Only Mac OS choices are available for the format type. *How do you format the disc for Mac OS on the Mac???*

    First, select the drive (not the named volume that will appear indented underneath), then switch to the Partition pane. Click the "Options..." button and choose the "GUID Partition Scheme," then partition the drive with a single partition.
    Now you can select the named volume, switch to the "Erase" pane, and choose MS-DOS.
    That said, you might want to consider using your PC to format the drive using the NTFS format. FAT-32 (the MS-DOS format) has a 4 GB file size limitation, and it is possible that some of the files you wish to transfer exceed this limit (I'm sure you would know better than we). Your iMac will have no trouble accessing the drive and NTFS format, but it will be as read-only. Since you will be formatting it again with the Mac, using HFS+ (Mac OS Extended), you won't need write access to the drive.
