firefox browser, xp pro sp3 32-bit. printer is wireless officejet pro 8500 a909g set up as static ip wireless.

the HP auto-detection page doesn't say anything about not being cross-browser. so one should assume it is, yes?
if it isn't, shouldn't it be fixed? nobody uses IE anymore if they don't absolutely have to. my guess is that was the browser you were inferring.
but like I said, it got to *98%*, which means it was working in firefox up to a point, then hung. so there is a bug in it, so please have engineering fix the plugin. thanks. they need to know it's broken on this platform with this browser. I have not tried it with windows 7 yet.

We have posture assessment working with cisco Nac agent. Checking only symantec Antivirus def update and installation. Since there is windows defender in all the user pcs and turned off not in use. But cisco Nac agent is showing both windows defender and symantec in List of Antivirus & Anti-Spyware Products Detected by the Agent field. We dont want windows defender to show in this list.
Anyone encountered this list before?? Please suggest.. I want to get rid of windows defender from this list in nac agent.

Currently Windows Defender AnitSpyware comes installed on all Windows 7 machines. Many users disable this and install their own AntiSpyware product. Currently when using the ANY AntiSpyware up to date rule, it will fail if say MSE is up to date but not Windows Defender (since it is disabled).
This is an enhancement request to add the ability to pass the ANY check if 1 AntiSpyware or AntiVirus definition is up to date but another is installed and out of date. Currently if a customer wants to accomplish this they need to create a rule for every AntiVirus or AntiSpyware product and use the "Any Selected Rule Succeeds" option which is very cumbersome to configure.

OK, I figured out from the various postings on here and way too many hours overnight how to pretty much make the Yoga do what it is supposed to do. I've written up a step by step at this link that may help some of you with your problems as well

If you get the same error in all browsers, it could be your security software. Often there will be a set of privacy options that allow you to filter what is sent to sites. Can you find anything like that and see whether any cookies are blocked, such as "third party" cookies?

Troubleshooting a start up script can be difficult. There are some third party programs that also keep logs of start up programs, however for Firefox this may be different.

Its also possible to check the Web developer tools for any scripts in a page: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Debugger]
In the control panel there is also Administrative tools to view event logs, but this may be something a local technician can walk you through.

If you have email on the machine, have a friend email you the installer file.
Else you'd have to use an external storage device (USB drive, external hard disk or some such).

E-Mail Stalls on Exchange - then works, then stalls...

I have a 3g iPhone, had the original too - it's been working fine syncing to my work Exchange server - I have it set to manual, and when I need to check mail, I just pull it up, it connects, gets the latest messages and all is fine - until about a week ago.
Now it will work for about an hour, maybe shorter, then when I pull it up it will just stall - the little circle will keep circling but it never updates and finally I get "can't connect to server" error message. What I've found is the only way to get it working again is to turn off the network - go to Airplane mode - wait for a minute and turn it back on, then it starts pulling messages again. It's like it gets stuck on our exchange server and won't let go or update. At the same time I can try to go to the web in Safari and try to connect to our company OWA address and it won't connect either - so that's telling me that it's hung.
Why in just the past week? I've tried doing a reset on the network on the phone, I've done a restore, the next step is to wipe it clean and start from scratch.
I see a lot of posts about this similar problem, but no answers - help - I'm about ready to ditch this - I can't turn on and off the airplane mode everytime I need to check mail!

Properly done, removing the plist does NOT result in the loss of messages, but you would need to be careful.
With Mail not running, hold down the Shift key while clicking on the Mail icon to launch. Tell us the result of this, as this allows Mail to open without trying to open any particular message or mailbox.

Stalls during boot- then comes back to life

I have a Toshiba A215 satellite laptop. Sometimes when I start the computer it loads the bios then just stops. The screen is blank, not black, there is no hard drive activity. Not responsive to any keys. Then, if I just let it sit, for about 45-60 minutes, it just comes back to life and finishes booting normally. Operating system is Vista Home. I have run PC Pitstop which fixed a bunch of stuff, but not this. I have flashed the BIOS, so it is the latest update. I have shut off "sleep" and "hibernate" because of other problems. It happens mostly when I try to start soon after shutting down. If I start after being off overnight, it seems to always start normally. I have also tried the pull the battery, hold the start button trick without successs. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply but how would customer support help me with a hardware problem ? I once had a problem with the power jack on this computer. Toshiba wanted $375 to fix it. Got it fixed by Geek Squad for 100 bucks. Anyway, I don't think it is hardware. Can anyone else suggest a possible fix ? I believe that after the BIOS is loaded, the next thing is to load Vista. This is where the computer just pauses for 45 minutes before finishing the booting process. What the heck is it doing, resting ? Thanks in advance.

Is MacBook really a good product? Is it better then Windows, really?

Problems with random shutdowns, heat problems, etc. (Please take your time and read if you got the time and all that, thanks! Your a great person, really, you are!)
I walked went to the Apple Store in my city, I told about the heat issiue and he told me "Just bring it in and will fix it!" I was there to talk about their product since I was\am planing to buy new laptop. And I give it a thought, why would a dude from Apple Store tell me to deliver it to them so they can fix it (what? In 2-6 weeks, that is many hours without laptop at school, bad for my business.) And was there not a update now who would fix that problem? Strange he tells me to deliver and not talk about the patch or update, whatever you wanna call it. So the thing, yes the thing is I have read that it only makes the "air condition" go 24\7, that is what update does to fix the heat issiue, in my opinion that is not a fix. Apple MacBook "air condition" thing that makes noise was like not ment to go 24\7, it feels silly not even doing a thing and you will hear it just go, svsssh svsshh!
Now about one other thing, I tested a MacBook white with probably 1.83GHz and 512MB RAM...
It took about between 1-2 seconds to open a folder in MAC OS X or whatever you call it. Is that good? That scares me, really. If you get delay on 1-2 seconds just open a file, folder, native ordinary program, how about everything else? Heh!
Tell me the best things about MacBook and the worst things?

You really have two questions here:
1) How good is the Macbook as a laptop computer?
2) How good is OSX as an operating system?
Answer to #1: Apple computers have rated among the highest and best, including their laptops. They last longer, have a higher resale value, and usually have less problems. The MacBook is a new laptop with a new stuff included--things like a camera and Intel processer. So it is a "Rev A" as it were and like all such computers, especially delicate laptops, there have been hiccups.
These are getting addressed and fixed, however, as said, Apple has sold a lot of these computers--they're incredibly popular and most of them are problem free. So the percentage of problem computers has been fairly low and is getting lower. You have a much higher percentage chance of getting a good, problem free MacBook.
I have a problem free MacBook and it is an EXCELLENT laptop. The best I've ever had. The keyboard is amazing, the built-in camera wonderful, the screen stunning, the trackpad responsive. It's comparatively thin and lightweight. The magnetic plug has saved it from being pulled onto the floor by my clumbsy feet and by the cat. It's fast and responsive.
2) OSX--OSX has been able to do everything that Visa claims it will be doing when it gets released in '07. And it's been doing it for several years now. In other words, Windows is lagging waaaaaaay behind Apple in the OS department.
I know you say you trust PC's but when it comes to Windows OS...why trust it? 95% of the market uses Windows. That means, no competition. That means, they don't have to give you anything good. They can write up a terrible OS and you're stuck with it--because you buy PC's and they run Windows.
Apple wants more market share, so they have to make their OS better so you'll want to use it.
What's more, because 95% of PC's use Windows, people who create viruses create them for that 95%. But not usually for Apples--the OS of which is hard to bug anyway.
So. Great OS that's not vulnerable to viruses. Why do you trust PC's again?
OSX is full integrated, that means everything works with everything else, seamlessly. And all the software to do all kinds of amazing things comes with your computer. Gratis. You don't pay extra, it's bundled with the computer. Programs for photos, animation, music, as well as mail, calendars, widgets, Quicktime, etc, etc, etc.
As if that's not enough...it can run Windows. So if you want to stick with Windows, you can.
I really don't know what more you want from a Laptop. A good one, that is.

Stalled migration assistant then power outage

I was using Migration Assistant via Firewire/Thunderbolt to transfer from a 2009 27" iMac (10.8.6) to a new 27"iMac (10.8.4). After two days of churning, there stopped being any progress with about 40% of info having been moved. I left it to work for 24 hours just to be sure nothing was happening, then the power went out. I have 800+GB to transfer. I had backed up everything with Time Machine but that external hard drive died during the first attempt at migration. I have all my files backed up to another external hard drive, but need to know my next step. The Apple support call-in guys tell me I can damage both my computers. Help!!

I believe this is what a text message looks like when it's sent from an blocked phone number. Sounds like someone is playing a prank on you or someone is out there randomly freaking people out.
EDIT: Yep, did a little more digging, there appears to be an application out there that allows you to send an SMS without your number and this type of message is not saved in your Messages app.
