HS, ODBC and Oracle XE

Hi Guys,
One simple question,
can one use Heterogenious connectivity via ODBC with Oracle Database Express edition

Boris

Yes I would like this information as well.
I think only being able to start on listener is part of it as I can't seem to start multiple hsodbc instances.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Services, ODBC and Oracle 10.2.0.5 32-bit client

    Hi All,
I am setting up an application to work under windows 2008 R2 terminal services/Citrix XenApp which is 32bit. This application uses ODBC connections and not relying directly on TNSName for connection resolution.
I installed 10.2.0.3 and patched to 10.2.0.5, and when trying to create an ODBC connection I only see "junk" in the connections list for TNS Server Name without regard to what exists in the TNSNAME.ORA file.
We have JDE on the same server which uses TNSNAMES and work fine, so I don't think it is Oracle client related directly, but I've not seen this before.
Has anyone seen this before and know how to resolve?
    Geoff

Patches are only available to Oracle customers with valid support contracts. If you do have such a contract, pl contact the person in your team who has access to My Oracle Support to download the needed patch. Patches cannot be posted on public servers as this violates ones support contract

  • Unix ODBC and Oracle Instant Client

When I dowloaded Oracle 11 Instant client the the zip file does not contain the libsqlora.so.11.1 file. the odbc_update_ini file contains reference to it. I am trying to configure ODBC on HP UX Pa Risc to use the Instant Client. I have downloaded the UnixODBC driver manager from UnixODBC.org. But I can't seem to figure out how to hook up Oracle 11 Instant Client. Everything I have searched for indicates that libsqlora.so.11.1 is required for the driver manager to work. Who develops this, is it Oracle, is it UnixODBC.org? Do I need to use an older version of Oracle Instanct Client?
Thank you in advance for any help.

is it "libsq.." or "libsql.."? Did you check odbc.zip? "libsqora.so.11.1" suppose to be part of odbc.zip. From which location you have downloaded? because in my install location I can see that "libsqora.so.11.1" is part of odbc.zip file and same has been referred by odbc_update_ini file. Download fresh tar(odbc.zip) and recheck!

  • Oracle ODBC and DAO extremely slow

    Hi
I'm using Microsoft DAO 3.6 with an Oracle ODBC connection (version 9.2) in an VB6 application.
Opening an updateable dynaset is extremely slow, I have measured the performance with Oracle ODBC, Microsoft Oracle ODBC and Microsoft SQL-Server ODBC as follows:
    Oracle ODBC: 1952 ms
    MS Oracle ODBC: 360 ms
MS SQL-Server ODBC: 40 ms (connection to a MS SQL-Server)
If I use the SQLpassthrough option the result is about 10 ms in all 3 cases, but the dynaset is readonly !
The testing program is as follows:
    Option Explicit
Private Declare Function timeGetTime Lib "winmm.dll" () As Long
    Private Sub Form_Load()
    Dim wsdata As DAO.Workspace
    Dim db As DAO.Database
    Dim dbconn As String
    Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
    Dim start As Long
    dbconn = "ODBC;DSN=AdhocitORA;UID=adhocit;PWD=adhocit;"
    Set wsdata = DBEngine.Workspaces(0)
Set db = wsdata.OpenDatabase("", False, False, dbconn)
    start = timeGetTime
Set rs = db.OpenRecordset("Select * from Afdeling", dbOpenDynaset)
    rs.MoveLast
    rs.MoveFirst
    rs.Close
    Set rs = Nothing
    MsgBox "Time " & timeGetTime - start
    End Sub
Is there any setting in the Oracle ODBC, that need to be adjusted ??
    Erling

Why are you doing a moveLast followed by a moveFirst? That's going to force Oracle to retrieve all the records in the recordset. If there are a lot of records, you'll probably see a benefit if you increase the prefetch in the Oracle ODBC DSN configuration.

  • Microsoft ODBC for Oracle on a Windows 7 64Bit OS and Oracle 11g Client

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle 11g client 64Bit edition on a Windows 7 Professional 64Bit OS. Trying to connect to Oracle DB through ODBC Driver I get the following Message:
    Microsoft ODBC for Oracle:
"The Oracle(tm) client and networking components were not found. These components ar supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3 (or greater) client software installation....".
Any ideas how to resolve that problem?

    Hello,
Please verify the ORACLE_HOME directory is listed on the PATH system variable of Windows 7. Please open the Command Prompt
and examine the result of the command PATH.
    Hope this helps.

  • MS ACcess and Oracle CLOBs

I am trying to transfer data into an Oracle Database from Access. The table I'm aiming at is a CLOB, and Access/Windows ODBC are complaining about the sql data type being out of range. Experimenting with removing fields from my script I have narrowed it down to the CLOB filed. I have tried google searches and found several answers to the error but none that has anything to do with CLOBs
The table is set up as a linked table and the file dsn looks like this
I'm using DRIVER=Microsoft ODBC for Oracle in my data source and the Access field I was migrating out of is set as "Memo", but again I've tried experimental loads with more restrictive datatypes and different drivers and not had any joy.
I all else fails I can dump the whole lot to an excel file and load it through sql developer but for various reasons I would rather go through the access route if at all possible. Can anyone help please?
    Thanks

Remember that Microsofts ODBC driver for Oracle was designed with Oracle7 in mind. So possibly clob is not supported. (Also driver was deprecated long, long time ago by MS.)

  • Integration b/w uccx7.0 and oracle 10g

    hi,
currently i am doing integration b/w uccx7.0 and oracle 10g. i have installed the oracle client 10g . and i added the DSN in ODBC and also the test connection is succesful.. but when i mention the DSN in app admin page (Subsytem> Database). it is showing me error that some of the information is incorrect for the connection. and is not allowing me to add DSN in appadmin page of uccx 7.0.. even though i am using the same information in sqlplus to query the database from ipccx. Do i need to mention sth to make it work.
    Regards
    Nareh

    Hi there
A few things you have to watch out for.
Firstly if you have create the DSN and able to connect to it via the ODBC its more likely that the driver was not loaded correctly.
    - Remove the Driver and DNS
    - Install the driver again and create the DSN and test if it works
    - Reload the whole windows <----- was working on a case for 3 hours UCCX just wasn't loading the new 10g drivers reload fixed this
Now create the database connection and test.
Should this not work you can try the following:

can anyone help me ?? Send some sample codes and documents !!

BTW this is not the right forum for C++ stuff, this one's meant for anything related to ODBC
I guess you meant building database applications using C++
For that you can use OCCI, following link can provide some info on OCCI with few samples

A bit of background. We are a Microsoft shop using SQL Server 2005 / Windows 2003 64 bit servers. We need to have ODBC drivers and Oracle OLE provider to connect and transfer data vis SSIS.

  • Microsoft ODBC for Oracle / Microsoft Server 2008 r2

We are testing the operational system Windows Server 2008 r2 in one of our clients. This system does not accept the installation of the tool Microsoft ODBC for Oracle. We’d like to know how to install this Driver, once Microsoft’s webpage does not mention any help related to this issue (there is instruction only for the installation of MDAC). We’ve consulted discussion forums and all types of ocurrence on the Internet, but we started to think it’s a Bug of the version. Can you inform us what’s the solution for the problem?
We are looking forward to your answer.

    user5459571 wrote:
We have new webservers (Microsoft Server 2008 r2 64bit) that will need to connect to a variety of Oracle databases.
    Our DBAs have provided:
    10204_vista_w2k8_x64_production_client
We have installed it, but, notice that the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver is not listed.
It would be better for us to use the Oracle client, but, we do need to connect to Ticket Machines that are based on a Oracle v 8 database. (So, basically, if we use a 10g client trying to connect to a oracle 8 database, it will display the error: ORA-03134 Connections to this server version are no longer supported.)
It is not possible for us to upgrade the Oracle 8 database to current, so, we have to use the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver.
So, basically, we have a Oracle 8 database that we can not presently connect. (those machines are feeling abandoned)
Ideas? ThanksIf you insist on using the MS driver, you'll have to get that from MS. Why would you have expected it to come with an Oracle installation?
And to get the Oracle driver, you have to do a 'custom' installation and select the Windows components, as it is not installed with a default installation.
And all that aside from the very serious version compatibility issues.

  • Linking Access tables, creating a query with using both Access and Oracle

    Hello,
I am using 3.0.04.34 version Oracle Developer. I am supposed to create a script/procedure to use both Access tables and oracle tables together. There is an option in developer to copy the access tables into oracle. But it doesn't help me. Because when we updated the access tables
the copied ones are not be updated. How can I created a linked access tables to oracle and create a query with using both access and oracle table together.
I will appreciate if you guys help me. I look forward to hearing from you guys.
    Thanks,
    Pinar

    Pinar,
to be able to query MS Access tables in Oracle you need an additional product, the Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC. It allows you to link any foreign database into an Oracle database using a suitable ODBC driver. You can then access the MS Access tables through a database link based on the Database Gateway for ODBC. This will also allow you to join local Oracle and remote MS Access tables from your Oracle database.
There's a note on My Oracle Support which gives you more details:Document 233876.1 Options for Connecting to Foreign Data Stores and Non-Oracle Databases - For example - DB2, SQL*Server, Sybase, Informix, Teradata, MySQL
And there's also a dedicated Forum: Heterogeneous Connectivity
