  • Still no WiFi on iPhone 4s after OS7 upgrade - Need upgrade

    Dear Verizon, Apple et al,
You've got us between a rock and a hard place. My daughter's recently upgraded iPhone 4s has no Wifi. With four phones on Verizon and as long-time customers, we've been very good and loyal. But this situation is untenable. With a year-old phone my daughter upgraded her device to OS7 when it become available (and was prompted to). Since then (beginning of September, within her year warranty period) her phone has been unable to connect to Wifi. The Wifi is greyed out. We are a long-time Apple family and when I say, I've done everything...it means, I've tried everything with this phone to get it working again. She was away at college and unable to get into an Apple store before her year warranty expired, so she was unable to get a replacement. We kept waiting for Apple to provide a fix. To issue a statement. To own up to the mess they've caused. Nothing.. Really? Oh Apple, how far you've fallen. Steve Jobs on his fluffy  iCloud is definitely turning over and frowning.
Verizon, we need an upgraded devise. Her phone quit functioning within the year period (you can see this by the alarming amount of data she's using), but she couldn't travel to Apple or Verizon to get it replaced within that time period. Can you take care of this please? We'll have to go elsewhere for her, and once one has left the fold, the rest will follow.
    Thank you,
    Long-time customer
    DJhinVA

I agree with you. So many of us 4s users have been affected by this. I am at the two year mark myself so no warranty replacement for me unfortunately. I tried all apples suggested fixes and nothing works. Putting it in the fridge can get me going for a few minutes and I am able to update some of my larger apps this way, but in general my data usage has certainly increased and I have to really monitor it closely now. I believe it is Apples problem to deal with and remedy this issue warranty or not, it is obvious that it is the iOS 7 upgrade that has screwed the 4s users. Whether intentional or not it appears to be a conspiracy theory to get us to upgrade to the iPhone 5 which is really sad. I like the apple line and there is just no coincidence that so many 4s users were and are being affected by this plague of losing wifi capability so soon after this so called "fantastic" upgrade was announced and encouraged to be implemented. If I knew then what I know now I would have never upgraded! This just shows me two things, apple didn't not fully test this upgrade thoroughly enough, or that it shows the 4s was created with sub standard components which were over tasked and burned out with the iOS 7 update or soon thereafter. Apples only option for me was to pay them $199 to have my phone replaced! I would sooner spend $199 towards a new iPhone 5s before getting a replacement 4s that is sure to fail due to these existing issues. OR, has Apple pushed out the iOS 7.03 and 7.04 updates to rectify the problem and prevent more 4s phones from burning up their chips!? If so that is great however it leaves those of us that have already been affected holding the bag of goods and have been seriously harmed in the process. Apple needs to stand up and do the honorable thing to rectify the situation such in a manner that is similar with recalls on automobiles. For my phone I believe the damage is done and the updates have physically irreversibly damaged my phone. This is your one chance Apple, to make this right. Should you choose not to do so reflects a disgrace not only for your company as a whole but also for your employees from top to bottom as this in turn will hurt your future sales and profits like you have never seen. You have taken pride in producing quality products in the past. You were the leader that other OS followed. Now it appears you are following other OS's and your fan base is dropping like a rock. Not providing a viable solution to this problem will only hurt your reputation and status further. You have a choice to do what is right, and I seriously hope you will take it. I personally have more than 6 different iDevices in my own and will elect to buy non Apple products in the future along with encouraging other friends and family members to follow suit based on my own recent experience with your 4s / Debacle. Word of mouth goes a long way and can certainly turn out to be your worst enemy! Here is your chance Apple to do what is right, please make this right. Ipad disabled after upgrading to IOS7.

I called Apple support. The tech stated he had the same problem himself.
He tried to have me restore my ipad from the backup on my MAC. This resulted in an error message stating my device did not have authority to be restored. The tech put me on hold to research further and Apple dropped my call. I'm hoping the Genius Bar guys have an answer which is where I'm heading next.

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    Then restart your iPad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, then swipe the slider to power off.
Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Downgrading is not an option for an iOS device.

I install latest update from my ipad 2, after the upgrade tablet running slowly. Probably the system requirements too high for my device. I think that users with older models should be able to install IOS 6.x.x on their devices or consider buying devices from other manufacturers ...
People are dissatisfied with the new update a lot, including some of my friends and acquaintances. Is it reasonable to wait until Apple implements the possibility to return to Ios Ios 6 to 7? And how soon it can be done?
Sorry for my english, i am from Russia.

I have a similar issue. I recently purchased an iPad Mini, and I started off by backing it up from the apps I had on my iPhone. Now, I have a number of apps that never downloaded and that I don't want on the iPad. Some of these are apps that I don't need, while others are the iPhone versions of apps. There are something like 23 apps that I have no use for, but iTunes tries to install every time I connect. I've also tried clicking the 'Will Install' buttons. There's no way to delete these apps from the iPad without first installing them, as far as I can see, and there's no way to NOT install them, in iTunes.
It''s not just annoying, it's causing problems with installation of larger files and movies. Now, every time I sync to the computer, I get a warning that I'm over capacity by 580 MB, and larger apps will not install! Clicking Revert and a bunch of other things doesn't work, either. And I can't just delete some of the apps, because I or my wife use them on our phones!

You can backup to a Mac or PC via iTunes. Just make sure your iTunes Preferences/Devices is checked so it will NOT AUTOMATICALLY backup/sync when a device is connected. Click on your iPhone and Back it up. This will preserve your iPhones "current" content and settings.
I hope a larger display is in the works.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

  • HT1212 ipad disabled appears for no reason

Have you had this happen? at random times - with no use of my ipad - I try to use it, but can't because it's disabled for varying lengths of time - today it was 15 minutes - Any suggestions?

Could be a problem with the iPad. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • HT5824 my ipad disabled after I closed it. I turned it on said ipad is disabled? Since 10S7 this has been an ongoing problem. I have not even touched the password it just disables on its own

My Ipad was disabled after I turned it off. I turned it back on 'ipad is disabled' connect to ITunes!
Why would it disable afer turning it off. I did not have a password issue. Not even once.
I have not synced on Itunes on my system sincen this Ipad was synced at the Apple Store.
Is there a way to connect on my pc to my Ipad from Icloud and restore my Ipad without loosing
everything? Or do I need to reset yet again. This would be the fourth time starting from scratch!
I had been Ipad replaced recently due to numerous problems with IOS7 including bluetooth problems
with my keyboard, freezing - crazy making issues and most importantly I lost all data on my pages
app and all contacts etc. and my ipad disabled itself after begin turned off!
Now with the new one, my same problem! What is going on? What am I not getting.
Prior to I0s& my Ipad performed beautifully. Now I do not feel I can trust this technology.
    Any ideas?

Read this Apple Discussion Thread and possible solutions. The audio jack has been the main culprit, also certain sync and automation settings including connected remotes.

  • Ipad disabled after updating to ios 8

I updated my ipad 2 to ios 8 and it asked for a password, I never had a lock on this device, I guessed the same one I have on my iPhone but that didn't work, now it is completely disabled.   I don't have iTunes and never plugged this iPad into a computer.
Everything is pointing now to losing all my data, but I cannot!! there are pictures of my best friend that passed away in January, I cannot lose those!  I see lots of people are having this problem  PLEASE help me get my pictures. They are very dear to me.

    MeganTD,
I completely understand how you feel.  This has happened to me as well when I updated to IOS 8 when it first came out and now I can't get into my Ipad.  The difference is that I actually had a passcode on it and just typed it in just like the million other times I did and it says that the passcode was "wrong."  I thought it was just a mistake so I did it again and it said it was "wrong again, please try in 15 minutes."  This went on for about a day and when I tried to login again with the passcode it completely locked me out to where it says to "connect to itunes" which I did but the Ipad doesn't show up unless I put it into recovery mode, which doesn't help either because I don't want to restore my Ipad until I back it up first.
I even took it to the apple store to the genius bar and explained my situation and they couldn't even help me, saying that unless you have a backup on your computer there is no way to recover your data on your ipad before restoring it.  I thought that was completely ridiculous that it wasn't my fault that the Ipad is disabled after updating to IOS 8 and that there is absolutely NO WAY of recovering your data.  I even asked if there was 3rd party software that could backup the ipad before recovering and they couldn't give me that information either.
I have been looking all around the internet for a solution but to no avail.  I hope there is some information out there that can help us because there has to be SOME WAY that you can get into your ipad and backup without having to rely just on itunes and icloud.
