If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode. -

If you are getting an 'invalid security code' message then is the address on your iTunes account exactly the same (format and spacing etc) as on your credit card bill : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646 ? If it is then you could try what it says at the bottom of that page :

Plug into iTunes on any computer.
Hold down the sleep wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Don't let go of the sleep wake button and press and hold the home button as well. Do this until the Apple logo disappears.
Now let go of the sleep wake button but keep your finger on the home button for a few more seconds. The device should go in a mode that will enable you to restore it. -

we have an iphone 4s. It needs to reset as the vibration has stopped. We have a new computer that does not have itunes. It will not allow us to set it up as it says we have five other computers we have set it up with ( i dont think we have owned that many ) but we dont have them anymore. It the iPod is a 5G with iOS it will then ask yo to enter the password for Apple ID of the previous owner. you will have to get the previous owner to supply that password in order to use the iPod
