HT1212 what else is there to enable my iphone 4? ive tried holding down the home button while hooking up to itunes and ive also tried bypassing it with gecko.
i disabled my iphone by putting wrong passcode and now im locked out. ive tried holding home button while hooking up to itunes and also tried with gecko. what else is there
-Plug your iDevice into iTunes (preferably the latest version)
-Hold your Lock button for 3 seconds
-Then without letting go with Lock button, hold Home button for 10 seconds
-While holding Home+Lock button, release lock button
-Continue holding Home button for another ~25 seconds
3 seconds lock button
10 seconds lock+home button
~25 seconds home button
You can also watch a video on YouTube how to do it, search "How to put your device into DFU mode"
iTunes then would recognize the device as in recovery mode, you can then restore your device
Hope this helps!

my iPod touch 5th generation had white screened an it won't let me rest it by holding down the home button an the power button for ten seconds I've pulled it in to iTunes an its not being detected what can i do as its starting to over heat?
If you can't get it to shut down or restart when holding down the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and you can't get it recognized in iTunes to restore it, the iPod may have suffered a hardware failure and will need to go to Apple for service. Someone else here may have additional suggestions, though.
There is no "fifth generation" iPod touch, by the way, just for the sake of clarity; not yet, anyway.

My ipod touch is not recognized on itunes and will not turn on or even give me the battery sign that it is dead. I turned it off and it won't turn back on now. The screen is completely black and won't do anything. I have tried charging it over night and nothing happened. It was never near water. I have tried troubleshooting it by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button, but nothing happened and it didn't work. What can I do to fix it?

My iphone 4 locked up for several hours. i then tried to reset by holding down the home button and power button at the same time for 10 seconds and then the home button for 10 seconds. it is now completely black. what do i do? couldnt restore it in iTunes. Has anyone had this problem? Help!
Same thing happened to me today. I wasn't even using the phone for the past 6 hours and suddenly I can't connect to the internet, none of my internet apps would work - nothing. I tried to call AT&T from the iphone and it locked up - couldn't turn it off, change to the home screen - nada - brick.
Did the Home/Power button thing and that worked but this I've only had this phone for about 4 weeks and it's locked up more times than my 3GS did the whole two years I had it! Ridiculous -
I hold down the home button with Siri enabled on my Iphone 4 but it will not open, internet is present.. help??
Make sure Siri isn't disabled in Settings > General > Restrictions.
If that isn't it, did you try to restore as a new device? -
The only way I can use the home button is by giving it a firm tap, which my thumb just kind of bounces off the home button. I just don't have enough muscle strength to hold the button, I can only tap it. So I need a different way to turn on Siri, that doesn't require me to hold down any buttons. Cause if I can't even activate Siri, what's the point in me even keeping my iPhone 4S. Please Help.
I did a quick search, knowing that "Assistive Touch" can help with some features, but the only result I fouond from somebody who's tried it is here:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3461618?start=0&tstart=0
basically you use a lightweight touch on the screen to access the Home button. Holding it down to access Siri might work but might not, according to the post.
Good luck! -
Siri isnt showing up in my general settings in my iphone 5 or my moms 4s. i tried turning it off than on again and its still not working. I tried getting it to work by holding down the home button and voice control keeps showing up.

- Try placing the iPod in recovery mode using this program and then restore

- Next let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again. -
My macbook pro (August 2010) keeps freezing when apple mail starts up. This happens every 2nd time I turn on my Macbook Pro. This forces me to hold down the power button to restart my Macbook Pro. Does anyone else experience this, and is there a fix? Thx.
since upgrading to OS lion, my mac book pro (2010 August) keeps freezing (non responsive, requires restart) when i turn on my mac and the system is trying to open apple mail. while apple mail is attempting to collect new mail, the macbook pro freezes. this happens every 2nd time i try to start up my computer. this only started happening after i upgraded to OS lion. please let me know what I need to do to fix this. being forced to restart every 2nd time i turn on my macbook pro has been very frustrating. not sure if apple mail is also the cause of my macbook pro for being very slow during start-up (on the occasion the computer doesn't freeze).I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

I have a mid-2011 iMac running Mavericks. When I click restart the computer goes to a white screen with a spinning circle and does not go any further until I hold down the power button to turn it off. What do I do?
Ok, sounds like the safe mode boot worked... You probably don't want to always be in safe mode though (some reduced functionality) so does it do a normal boot now? If not, you should then reboot into safe mode and run Disk Utility. Then select Macintosh HD on the left hand side, and click the Verify Disk button. If needed, it will ask you to Repair Disk. If there are errors found, Repair Disk again until there are none. Then try another normal boot and reply with result, wether good or bad.

What does holding down the power button do?
I was having trouble with my OSX 10.4.10 upgrade. I held down the power button to force it to shut off. But when I pressed the power button, I held it down...It made this loud chime and the little light on the front of my MacBook flickered very rapidly.
What happened and did I mess something up?
Thanks.
-- JoseA normal power down goes through steps to shut down software. Holding down the power button bypasses those steps. Normally you hold down the power button only if all else fails -- the system won't respond to normal commands, so you can't pull down the apple menu and choose shutdown.
In most cases this "hard shutdown" isn't a big problem. However if you have files open in applications, a normal shutdown gives the applications a chance to save them. This won't. In a normal shutdown, the operating system makes sure to put the files on the hard disk into a consistent state. This bypasses that step.
In older operating system a hard shutdown could leave your hard disk in an inconsistent state, possibly losing files or directories. But recent versions of OS X have file systems that are carefully designed not to do that. So in fact a hard shutdown shouldn't cause any damage. But if you're in an application with a file open, you will lose the chance to save data.
I would try to avoid hard shutdowns, but in fact they shouldn't cause trouble. -

Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data -

We were going by your post. 'What can i do to use this phone"...
No offense intended, it's just that we see thousands of posts where people have different reasons for trying to use a stolen or lost device. -
I watched a video on my iphone, and it worked fine.
I wanted to watch it on our MacBook for sound and clarity, and every time I accessed it, it locked up. To the point that the only solution was holding down the power button.
Everything else worked, and I could freely enter information and open other Facebook entries, but when hitting the "play" button or clicking on the video it immediately bought up the spinning beach ball, and would never clear. Any solutions?Did you try viewing the video in a different browser? Firefox or Chrome maybe?
