Yes, and it's rather easy to do too.
Your machine has two slots. These are the specs for a 2008 iMac (if your machine is different then check with Crucial.com and they will match the correct RAM for your machine)

After the update downloaded, it said there was an error and the update disappeared without being installed. I can't download it again because the code has been used, help please, no idea what to do.

If it's not visible, click "store" on the top bar and "view my account." You can unhide it there.
If you had a problem downloading, before you do either of the above, you may want to trash the contents of /var/folders/ (found by "go to folder" in finders "go" menu, top bar). -

I have been downloading Mountain Lion for MAC for over 4 hrs. and it seems to be stuck about 2/3 of the way through. I have a I mac that is only 2 yrs old has 8 GB memory and I updated all software, checked utilitie for any disc repairs andbacked up everything before I started this process. Can someone tell me what to do Right now the version is OSX 10.6.8.
Let it go... these DL's take forever, depending on the spped of your connection and the traffic on the servers.
If by morning it is still sitting there restart and the DL should pick up from where it left off. -
I am trying to download mountain lion on to a mac pro but the message I get is just an error has occurred. any suggestions are very welcome.
I was having this problem - I assumed it was the Apple server being overloaded, so I just kept retrying over the last couple of days. All my apps were upto date, so was Software Update. i tried logging out of the App Store, restarting and so on. No joy.
Anyway, eventually I did this, and it seems to have solved the problem.
Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
Quit the App Store
In Finder - Go>Go to folder... (or Apple-shift-G)
Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore"
It will take you to a folder. Delete the whole folder and empty the trash.
Launch the App Store. Sign in and then reclick the Mountain Lion buy. It won't charge you again. It then started downloading. I'm currently 5% downloaded - but I never got this far before.

I downloaded OSX Mountain Lion three days ago. On startu my IMac shows a black DOS Screen. I must hard boot and it works. Does anyone have the same problem?

I already made a clean install and it didn't fix anything - the issue still exists (on my MBP 5.1 late 08)
BUT: the most horrible thing is: I also tried to downgrade to 10.7.4 (it worked perfectly before the update to 10.8!!!) and after being back on 10.7.4 it also boots (cold boot) into single user mode...
Now I'm back on 10.8 again (the 2nd clean install) and waiting for a fix...
I tried everything (alls kinds of commands, permission rights and reset all PRAM NVRAM SMC... no luck!)
A friendly guy on the german applehotline told me (after 2h telling him what my problem is): "mountain lion didn't break your mac it must be a hardware error and your mac is out of warrenty - so have a good one...bye"
Maybe apple will bring an update to fix this because it is ofcourse a software error...

I hope Apple brings an update too. I still have this problem. I also tried to do a clean install, which was a lot of work! So it must be a software problem.
I find it really annoying to get the black boot screen every time I do a cold startup!
I hope more people who have the same problem post something here, to let Apple now that they have to do someting about it!

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.

You should always have and keep an up to date backup.
Sounds like you need something a little stronger than Disk Utility. At this point I have no way of knowing if Disk Warrior can or will help.

If you do format and install, then Yes it will.
If you reinstall OS X, then No it will not.
Problem is that according to the Disk Utility message, I don't think that you will be able to install either 10.6 or 10.8.

When I tried to update to the latest version of itunes, I kept getting a message saying installation failed and if the problem persisted I should try to install manually. Downloaded Mountain Lion update 10.8.2 last night. All went well until the message after the download – restart your mac to install this update. The screen went white and the machine didn’t restart. After waiting for quite a while, I shutdown using the main power button. Restarted iMac later and it opened in 10.8.1 and the iTunes icon informed me that I had an upgrade to 10.8.2 that required me to restart the machine to install the upgrade. I did this and again, the screen went white and froze when trying to restart. Rebooted thinking I might be OK to run in 10.8.1 and ignoring the update but when I tried this the Mac worked fine but when I came to shut down I got the white screen freeze thing again. Does anyone have any easy-to-follow solutions for this or will I have to shut down using the main power button every day?

How can I download Mountain Lion onto an external disk?

My macbook pro hard drive was failing and at a genius appointment the technician said I could either pay for them to do the replacement or do it at home, since it would cost me nearly three times less. I bought the hard drive which is physically installed but my mac was not working before the replacement so I couldnt create any copies of the content, sofware, etc which means that now I have no idea how to install the sofware again... I've read about downloading Mountain Lion off the Apple Store onto an external disk and then rebooting the Mac from the external disk but I cant use my apple ID on any other Mac that isnt mine so I'm totally lost... Any help, please?I'm assuming the grey disks are installation CDs that came with the mac?
Correct. But since you're trying to get back to Mountain Lion, you don't need them. If you had created a Mountain Lion bootable flash drive from your original download, you could have started up to that and installed ML directly.
Since it appears you don't, than what you do need is a retail Snow Leopard disk. If you don't have one, it can be purchased directly from Apple for $20. Install that and update it to at least 10.6.6 to get the App Store app on the drive. Then you can login to your App Store account and retrieve and install Mountain Lion.
