HT1338 What the **** is going on here? Trying to upgrade fron Lion to Mountain Lion and Nothing id going right.

Mountain Lion did not download – another instance of Lion did. No way back (inforrned that " upgrade codes" provided by Apple) were were already used),

I'm not convinced by the idea of write-behind caching - holding data in ram until the drive becomes free in order to reduce disk seeks. A minor potential performance benefit which means leaving the drive in an inconsistent state most of the time it's connected.
Whatever else is going on you I think you shoud disable write-behind caching. Connect the iPod, locate in Windows Explorer, right-click & click Properties, select the Hardware tab, select the Apple iPod USB device, click Properties, select the Policies tab, check Optimize for quick removal, click OK and click OK again.
Is iTunes running when you try to transfer data?

Hi Carol, good/sound advice by Ziatron so far.
We need more info about your Mac to see if it will even be capable,
So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1

    SMC Version (system): 1.21f4
You'll need to buy SL/10.6 first & get it to 10.6.8, then get Lion... if you can run it.
Or if you can erase your disk...

    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)

        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory, (I say 4GB)
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, (I say 40GB at least)
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.
It looks like Apple will have Lion available on USB drives for $69...

  • Whats the difference between Garageband, iMovie etc. that ship with Lion and the ones in the Apple Store?

Given that the same version numbers are the same why should I pay another £10.50 for each app when Lion itself only cost £21 and contains iPhoto, IMovie and Garageband?

    Hi,
When you bought your MacBook, it came with an operating system, Snow Leopard, pre-installed.
It also came with some applications, including iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband, pre-installed.
But the iLife applications aren't part of Snow Leopard, or of Lion.
They're separate applications, and Apple gives them to you for free when you buy a new Mac.
If you launch iPhoto, then go to the iPhoto menu and choose "About iPhoto", you can find out what version of iPhoto you're running. You can also check for software updates, and if they are available you will be able to download them.
Your MacBook is very new, and I would be almost certain that the version of iPhoto you're running is the same as the version in the AppleStore.
But if Apple upgraded iLife to a new version (possibly iLife 12) you would have to pay for that if you wanted it.
And if Apple upgraded Lion to a new version (possibly Ocelot ) you would have to pay for that separately. It would not include the iLife applications.

I am trying to upgrade to Lion and have received an error message stating "The disk in not formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Use disk utility to enable.
What exactly am I supposed to do in Disk Utility?
I opened it up and I wasn't sure if I am supposed to reformat? Repair? Partition?  Am I supposed to be reformatting as an Extended Mac OS?
How exactly do I do that?
Basically has anyone encountered this and what steps are needed to continue from this point?

    Open Disk Utility.
Select the volume to enable or disable journaling on.
To enable, click the Enable Journaling button or choose Enable Journaling from the File menu.

Try going to Settings>Store and sign out and sign back in.
It also could be due to an Apple server problem. and yu will just have to wait and try again.

My billing information is correct however iTunes won't accept it. I have tried changing it to "no" card, my statements from the banks are addressed to the same address. What the **** is going on?!

Debit cards already in an account seem to keep working, but many people have reported that when entering or updating a card that debit cards are now rejected, and they're not listed in the accepted payment methods.
As to your issue, only the iTunes Store can help you with this. I understand the irritation, but please note that the U2 free offer is just a single song, not an entire album, so we're only talking about $.99 if you miss out but still want the track. Not a big deal, in my humble opinion.
    Regards.

You have probably clicked on a mailto: web link which directs links to send e-mail messages to wherever the webmaster chooses.    Go to the View menu -> Show Statusbar if it available, and then make sure the bottom of your screen is visible.  When you hover over a link, if it says: mailto: it will open in your default e-mail reading application set by your browser or your e-mail program preferences.
Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Software Update lets you change how often you see the software update window.

  • What the #$^&$# is going on Adobe?

Let me give a little background information. I purchased the single stand alone product Adobe Photoshop CS3 shortly after it was released (downloaded from Adobe web site). Shortly after CS4 was released I was really impressed with improved performance everyone was talking about due to GPU that I upgraded to Adobe Photoshop CS4. So, now I'm a legal owner of Adobe stand alone product Photoshop CS4. Very pleased with the product.
I've been playing with my own web site (even run my own server on my home NAS 24/7) for quite some time. Just hacking HTML with emacs text editor, etc. I had some extra cash (yea, weren't those days nice) back in October or November of last year. So, being very happy with Adobe Photoshop CS4 and getting tired of doing my personal web site with share ware tools I decided to take the plunge and purchase Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium. So I went to my local Fry's Electronics here in Austin and purchased the upgrade package. Now I think this was around November of last year. And if memory serves me correctly (bear with me - my computer system is still not totally up - it crashed and I've not yet reinstalled Quicken to access my financial records via backup) I paid a LOT of money for my upgrade. Something like $1200 or about! I ONLY did this after looking on Adobe's web site to make SURE there was a valid upgrade path from a single product (i.e., CS4 Photoshop) to the CS4 Suite. Their web site confirmed this (and still does to this day). Indeed, I even have a vague recollection of calling Adobe Customer Service about this to ensure I could upgrade before I laid out my hard earned money!
Even the packing on the CS4 Suite box confirmed I could upgrade from just Photoshop CS4 stand alone software.
So I did - I purchased CS4 Upgrade Suite and installed. Problem was the DVD would not offer me the option of installing from my single point tool, it only offered me the option of upgrading from various CS3 suites? So, a call to the customer service center and they hand held me through the process of installing the software. All is good in the world and I'm enjoying CS4 suite of tools (especially DreamWeaver :-)
January 2009 rolls along, my RAID card dies! I have to buy a new RAID card but worse yet, have to reinstall my OS (Vista) and ALL my applications and thankfully I have backups of my data on my NAS. Have to go through the hand holding again with Adobe Customer Service again when I have to reinstall my Adobe Creative Suite 4 software, this time I remember it being more painful then when I first bought the upgrade (i.e., Customer Service).
Fast forward to NOW, early this week SP2 update from Microsoft TRASHED my machine, Blue Screen Of Death! Even Blue Screen of Death when I attempt to recover from my original Vista DVD! (it was a corrupt files in the $TxfLog directory I came to find out). Any way, only way I recovered (still am) was to wipe disk clean and once again REINSTALL OS and ALL MY APPLICATIONS e.
Once again, I have to call Adobe Customer Service to install my upgrade package because the DVD only gives me the option from upgrading from a CS3 Suite - even though I PAID for the upgrade from a stand alone product - even though the PACKAGING said it would upgrade from stand alone product - even though Adobe's Web Site says I can upgrade from stand alone product (there's no FINE print about having to call Customer Service in India EVERY FRICKIN TIME!).
After an hour on the phone talking to one person after another and then finally being told it's all taken care of and I just needed to call back with my case number 202-119-797! They told me to call back because I had to install in trial mode (1/2 hour to install) and then it could be activated at the Check Software prompt by doing a Ctrl-Shift double click key combo.
I call back and customer service tells me (even after I gave them the case number) that Adobe's policy is that THERE IS NO UPGRADE PATH FROM SINGLE PRODUCT TO CS4 SUITE. AND HE WILL NOT ACTIVE OR HELP ME INSTALL MY LEGALLY BOUGHT SOFTWARE. I ask to speak to the manager, he tells me his manager will tell me the same thing! That "Adobe's Policy does not allow for or support Upgrading to CS4 Web Premium from Stand Alone Product (in my case CS3/4 Photoshop).
I explain to him I spent over a thousand dollars on this in store (Frys) bought package (it was in a locked case for crying out loud)! I explain to him that this was NOT Adobe's policy when I purchased the product last year! He says he sees I did have this software installed and activated earlier and they could (for this ONE TIME ONLY) give me an exception and activate my software! I demand to be treated correctly, if my system crashes again in the future am I NOT going to be allowed to reinstall/use the software I legally bought? He says they can issue a refund. I accept, I know longer want to be a customer of Adobe or purchase or use or endorse or have anything to do with Adobe! Then he says sorry, I bought the product too long ago to be eligible for a refund!
I'm dumfounded, Wall Street Shenanigans, I've had to take pay cuts at work, see fellow engineers laid of in droves more then I've ever seen in my entire 22+ years as an Electrical Engineer, I lost my wife of 22 years several years ago, I'm a single father of three great kids. The county I live in just raised my property taxes by 5% even when homes similar to mine sit on the market at $100K less then they did last year, even when foreclosures are at an all time high. I see my tax dollars going to bail out criminally negligent banks and criminally negligent insurance companies. My credit cards have had their interest rates pushed into the double digit territory and at the same time reduced my spending limits by 4 or 5 times! And now this! Adobe is sinking to the same lows of SCREWING the honest Joe.
    WTF!
Fortunately, instead of running outside screaming like a lunatic, I had the presence of mine to show the customer service representative the Adobe Web Page (their Store) and SHOW HIM, SO HE CAN SEE WITH HIS OWN FRICKEN EYES THAT ADOBE SELLS AN UPGRADE TO CS4 Web Premium from CS[34] Photoshop and - wow - look - it's around the same damn price I paid for last year, around twelve hundred bucks. Finally, after step by step, page by page, button by button, dialog box by dialog box I direct him so he can see this very FACT.
At this point he says he will activate my software. At this point I don't care how or why it's activated. I've had enough, so, we activate my software and I am sure I will get the SAME CRAP the next time I try to install this software (e.g., if I move my license from my current machine to a new one or if my hard drive dies or for what ever reason I need to reinstall my valid purchased copy of Adobe Upgrade CS4 Web Premium).
What the ^&@$#^& is going on Adobe, you can't keep treating your customers like this!
Fix it damn it, we have too many other problems to deal with and don't need your incompetence to deal with!

Yes, I think you may be right, that thought crossed my mind this morning when I was on the phone with customer service. Stranger things have happened to me before, e.g., I bought a 1TB Seagate Disc from Fry's (my favorite store ) and when I got home and opened (an unopened package) and installed it - well, after formating and looking at it's size, it was only showing around 750GB. So, I shut down, pulled it out, looked at the label  - and sure enough - it was a 750GB hard drive, not a 1000GB hard drive?
Perhaps something like this happened to me in this case?, i.e., some how the packaging (i.e., box) was for single point product upgrade (certainly the sticker price I paid was) but the DVD was for a suite upgrade. In any case, I'm only now thinking this is what happened. I wish Adobe's Customer Service (which is the poorest customer service I've had the displeasure to need to use) could be trained to a level to catch this way back when I first purchased the product.
Any way, it's the only "theory" which makes sense?
I'm not sure about calling back to Customer Service and asking for a supervisor, when I've attempted that on all these recent occasions I was told "NO - I could not talk to a supervisor". Certainly my tone of voice was upset, concerned, angry but I NEVER attacked the individuals I talked to, I never said anything offensive to them, etc. Indeed, I even apologized during the conversation saying I was upset with Adobe the corporation, and NOT with the customer service individual (it's not their fault, I'm assuming they just run down some play book like thing or ...).
So, given I was not frothing at the mouth when I talked to them today and yesterday I don't see what would compel them to allow me to talk to a supervisor in the future. It seems that's NOT their policy.
I have filed a online ticket for this whole fiasco! Indeed, I had to, because even though it looks as though ALL the products in my CS4 Web Premium were "for one time exception" - Activated. Well, that's unfortunately not the case, I just tried to use Acrobat Pro and I got a dialog box requesting a license key. My CS4 package key does not work .
    So, the saga continues...

An unknown error occurred (0x80092013) what the **** is going on  from last six month i am unable to access i tune store?pls give me solution which should help me to shortout this problem as soon as possible. i have not expected this from apple

I have been trying for months to put iTunes on my laptop and kept getting installation errors in Windows 7. I gave up and just installed iTunes on my PC running XP.
Now I have to install Quicktime on the laptop and once again I get an installation error 0x800736FD.
All windows updates are fine, none failed.
I have removed all apple software from my laptop using CCleaner, common files and folders. Tried reinstalling and still the same error.
Could you offer any advice on how to get both quicktime and then iTunes working??
    Thank you in advance

  • 720x480 != 640x480... What the **** is going on?

    I've got a 720x486 non-compressed QT that I want to translate to a 720x480 DV QT.
In Compressor (3.05), Cropping is set to: 4x3 1.33x1 and Dimensions: 720x480 and NTSC 601/DV. Compression is set to DV/NTSC.
When I open the newly created QT in Quicktime Player, it says that it's 640x480. In the Finder Get Info, it says it's 720x480.
What the **** is going on? I've done this many times before. Why won't it create a 720x480 like I've told it?
    Crazy...

    DVD, Web & archive.
I'm a commercial director and for years (before HD) I would save every spot in DV format (I know it's not the best, but...). It made it simple to throw a reel together in FC.
Lately, as more spots are HD, I've been saving them as HD size in Apple ProRes.
But I still have to deal with all the SD spots for throwing them on a DVD and also converting them to a web format (typically H.264).
I'm open to suggestions, but this has been working pretty well.
Again, I don't know why Compressor won't create a 720x480 version when I ask it to. I tried it in Quicktime Player and it does the same thing. I've NEVER had this problem before.
    Anyone?

  • Really having problems with organising documents in pages. For example, deleting pages deletes the whole section and I cannot insert a section break as its greyed out & sending an object to background deletes several pages - what the **** is going on???

Really having problems with organising documents in pages. For example, deleting pages deletes the whole section and I cannot insert a section break as its greyed out & sending an object to background deletes several pages and trying to insert a text box autmatically creates new pages- what the **** is going on??? Is this programme really this badly thought out? I thought everything apple was supposed to be intuitive!?!?!? Help.

You can not insert a section break into a textbox.
You appear to have a lot of objects with wrap set, that once you take them out of the flow of text (by sending them to the background) causes the text to reflow and contract into fewer pages. Pages is almost unique in the way it forms up pages in Word Processing mode only so long as there is text on them.
I suspect you probably have hammered away at returns, spaces and tabs as well to position things, which only works to add to the mess.
Download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf available under the Help menu and swot up a bit on how it works.
You may find this a usueful resource as well:

PS There is quite a lot of programming in OSX that is far from "intuitive". Pages is easy at one level, when using the templates, otherwise it can be quite frustrating.

We are fellow users here on these forums, we won't know what you are being charged for.
You can view the purchase history on your account via a computer's iTunes : if you log into your account via the Store > View Account menu option you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it, click on that and you should then see a list of your purchases.
And did you have any auto-renewing subscriptions that you didn't cancel ? There are instructions on this page for managing and stopping them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4098
If nothing shows on your account's purchase history then you should contact your card issuer, or if they show but you didn't make them (unless they are auto-renewing subscriptions which you didn't cancel) then you can contact iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
