Does any have their MacBook Pro retina 2012 freezes up then desktop blue screen for 15-20 seconds?
I have been having issues for months now. My MBP 15" is freezing up after I stop typing in any application. I cannot do anything. Then after 20-30 seconds my desktop goes to a blue screen then comes back after 20-30 seconds. Just did it now when I stopped typing. Went to the Genius Bar they reload the software but it's still happening. Currently on Mountain Lion.
If you like you can also restore, via Disk Utility, the DMG onto another disk, but you will be able to read the contents, simply mounting the volume inside any version of OS X.

How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver? I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. There are 4 HDMI-in ports on the receiver - BD, DVD, DVR/BDR and audio. In my system preferences for sound, the receiver doesn't show up as an output option. Can anyone please advise. You would only damage the recovery partition if you repartitioned the drive. Simply erasing the volume is fine. (The drive and volume are often used interchangeably, but they're not. The drive is the physical device, encompassing everything on it, including all partitions. Each partition on the drive is a separate "volume." So the Macintosh HD on an out-of-the-box Mac is not actually the drive, it's a volume that takes up most of the drive.)
So, just erase with Disk Utility, then reinstall the system and as soon as the setup assistant starts, just quit that program and shut down the machine. When your brother turns it on, it will be as if he were turning it on for the first time.
Note that if you have any sensitive data, you may want to do a secure erase in Disk Utility instead of a normal erase. You may not need to keep your data safe from your brother, but you should consider what might happen if the machine were stolen from him, for example. -

my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.7 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) has started misbehaving on me. When I'm working, the cursor will start spontaneously moving to the in a straight line, and randomly right clicking on things.
If I close the computer and open it back up, it sometimes stops for a little while, then will spontaneously start again. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks!See this knowledge base article. Airport extreme, audio won't work on windows 7 boot camp for my macbook pro osx lion
Bought my Macbookpro in late 2011 and osx lion, decided to put boot camp on it, but it won't find my airport exrteme or even if i connect the ethernet cord directly into the laptop it still wont conectto the internet, and my audio also doesn't work, even when i plug in headphones, any suggestions?
Sorry for the late reply, I've searched as much as I could all having similar issues but not quite being the same issue. I've tried manually putting in my airport extreme information, search for other connections, start a new connection, all have not worked. I did everything normally to setup windows except put in the authentication code which i have misplaced.
I might've already added the drivers but im not too sure, how would you add the driver, just in case i missed that part -

Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
However, before you do this you should read the following:

If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file. -

hello folks, having troubke installing Lightroom 3 on my new MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.3. Reciev error dialouge box after setting serial etc that says'An error occurred when attempting to change modules. Any bright ideas out there?
cheers, MikeI had no problem with LR4, but did with LR4.1 and 4.2. I don't remember the order especially, i.e. I was changing laptops and somewhere along the way updated OS to Mountain Lion. Kept getting this error and its was a typical Adobe blank spot and most of the help forums weren't very helpful, despite efforts.
The answer for me at least is on the Adobe site at http://goo.gl/KjkHz which describes accessing the hidden library files, etc and gives fairly precise instructions on how to do it once you reach the Lightroom folder in App Support. You don't need to go into the Lightroom folder, Just click on it, get info and change all permissions to "read and write" rather than restrictive. You WILL find a folder titled simply "Lightroom" in app support -- or you're not in the right place.
I know how to access the hidden files, but I don't usually think about having to do something like this for a routine installation. FWIW, there is sometimes mentioned a problem with installs when NIK filters are installed. I have three sets including Topaz Suite, FilterForge and Tiffen. (don't ask). They are not a problem. -
Mostly explained in the title. My dad gave me his MacBook, and I went ahead and wiped all of his stuff by using the recovery partition to wipe/reinstall OSX Lion. In the setup I used a new apple ID and now I can't get iLife apps. I'm relatively new to how apple works its purchases, so I'm not sure what's up. Is it that my computer has a unique ID set to the first apple ID used on it, and if so, how can I get this reset to my ID? I'm planning to get an iPhone 5 soon so I'd like to be able to use photo stream with iPhoto and try out Guitar Band.
Any help is much appreciated.

Macbook pro- OSX lion 10.7.2 fan noise
I just bought a macbook pro laptop, upgraded it to the Lion version, it is now 10.7.2, with processor of 2.7 GHz intel core i7, memory of 8GB, 1333 MHz DDR3. Whenever I am on a program like imovie, safari, iphoto, charging my smartpen...etc.... the fans goes off like crazy. It lasts for a very long time. Sometimes the noise get so bad, it goes from loud to louder...... I don't know what the problem is.

Also, the fan noise seems like a normal noise every time I launch a program, but it's getting to the point where I am frustrated(annoyed) of the fan noise. I would've thought that upgrading to a Mac book would cause less fan noise because of it's high processor. Sometimes I feel like I should go back to a Dell or HP because of this problem, but at the same time, I love my laptop. ;) -
