HT1349 Is there anyway possible to retrieve your Itunes Library from crashed computer

We had a computer that crashed around Christmas time.  We had put SO much in our Itunes library and now we have to start all over again.  Is there a way to retrieve that Itunes library and successfully import it to our new computer?

Yes, although it depends a bit on how your library is organised. If everything is in the iTunes standard folders, libraries are in ...My Documents\My Music\iTunes and all the media in ...My Documents\My Music\iTunes Music then you can share the main iTunes folder over your network. Install iTunes on the laptop, then hold shift immediately after clicking on the iTunes shortcut to get the option to choose or create a new library. Navigate to your network share and open the iTunes Library.itl file. Don't try to access the library from two machines at the same time.

  • My computers hard drive has stoped working, how can I retrieve my Itunes library from my computer?

My computers hard drive has stoped working. How can I retrieve my itunes library? My back ups were on this hard drive as well.
When I brought my computer to be fixed they said they would retrieve photos and music and documents but loose my programs. That being said I am not sure if I will recover my music from itunes because it may fall under the program category. I support itunes by purchasing from itunes, but now i am in a position where i may loose years of purchassing music and it has me feeling a little bit sick to be honest...the stress this is causing is really big. DÙoes anyone have any experience with this type of problem?
    Help is appreciated, thank you.

If the data is recoverable from the drive then they should have recovered the entire iTunes folder which includes the library database. Restore this into the <User's Music> folder of a replacement system, install iTunes, and it should be as before.

  • Is there a standard approved method of transferring your itunes library from an old computer (windows vista) to a new one (will almost certainly be Windows 7)?

Is there a standard approved method of transferring your itunes library from an old pc (windows Vista) to a new one (almost certainly Windows 7)? I can't find anything on the standard Apple websites.
If not, how do people do it generally?

Type " move itunes library" into the google search bar.

  • Is it possible to copy your itunes library, not completely move it?

my situation is kind of complicated so here goes the explanation. i have a cpu that multiple ipods sync with by using different playlists. i have a video ipod but just got a new cpu. i was wondering if there was a way to move just my playlist onto the new cpu. i dont need the play counts or anything, just the files of music. if not, i can move the whole library, but does that mean that the library gets deleted from the old PC? most (at least 80%) of the music is saved onto an external HD so what would be transfered? any help would be greatly appreciated =]

    Hey rhobotz,
This article will walk you through the process of moving your iTunes library to another computer.

  • How do i retrieve old itunes library on recovered computer?

I had to run recovery disk on my computer and need to retrieve my itunes library

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

  • How do you transfer your itunes library from an external hard drive?

I've just bought a new internal hard drive for my macbook because I've run out of space. I'm planning on putting my itunes library on an external hard drive then putting it on the new internal hard drive... but i have no idea what the best way to do that is, since it isn't just the files that are important, my playlists and all the changes to song names need to stay intact. and also i'm gonna put snow leopard on the new hard drive if that makes any difference?
Hope some one can help me find the best way!

I have much the same problem. I have my iTunes files on an 80GB external drive along with my iPhoto files. Currently, my MacBook Air sees and operates from the iTunes setup on the 80GB drive. To provide more space to handle these files I got a 500GB portable external drive. Now I want to bring the iTunes files back into my MBA and, when complete, put them out on the 500GB drive from which I'll operate my iTunes. This might be simpler if the MBA had two USB2 ports instead of one. I've tried the method noted in "Transferring Your iTunes Library" (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/), but couldn't seem to get the 80GB files back to the MBA such that iTunes would see them there. (I copied the files over, but the link's broken.) Ideas?
    Thanks in advance

  • Is There A Way To Print Your iTunes Library For Display?

I would like to print on paper my iTunes Library if possible and place it into a binder. Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

Also, you can set iTunes to view the columns you want (menu View -> View options), select all the songs then Ctrl C (copy) and Ctrl V (paste) into a text doc and print.
You can also select the library, then File -> Export and save as a text file.
Open it in a spreadsheet to put it into columns and rows, then sort & edit only the info you want to see and print it.

  • Is it possible to retrieve my old library if old computer crashed?

I'm trying to retrieve my old itunes music and load on new computer. Old computer hard drive is not accessable /crashed. I don't see any help topics on this issue. I can't imagine this is a unique problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

This is asked and answered constantly - many times this evening.
You get ONE download only. It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.
Use your backup copy of your old computer to move the music.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

  • Is it possible to store your itunes library in two separate locations?

I currently have my entire iTunes library on a My Passport external hard-drive but I would also like to store my iTunes library on a separate My Book external hard-drive. The My Book is 2TB and I essentially wanted to store the movies on that external; not necessarily the movies and music currently in iTunes. Is there a way I can keep my iTunes library on the My Passport but also have it on the My Book external hard-drive as well?

Move one of the folders in the iTunes library to the external drive in the Finder, and with iTunes not running, open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. Enter the following:
    ln -s
The l in the command is a lowercase L. Drag the folder on the external drive into the Terminal window followed by the folder on the laptop drive. Next, drag the folder on the laptop drive to the desktop in the Finder and press Enter in the Terminal window. Reopen iTunes and verify that everything works properly; when this has been done, delete the original folder from the laptop drive's desktop.
