HT1386 I am getting a message that says, "Failed to sync because the sync session failed to start?"  Any solutions?

My wife dropped her iPad2 last week.  Since then one of her apps is not working correctly so I thought that I would sync the iPad because it has been a while.  When I plugged it in to my desktop computer through USB, I got the message "Failed to sync because the sync session failed to start."  I have never seen that message before and I am not sure what I can do now to sync my wife's iPad.  Any suggestions and/or help would be appreciated.
