HT1386 Ipod connecting to laptop

My laptop, Windows 8, is not recognizing my ipod in itunes.  I have synced before and when I connect the ipod is not showing up as a device.

See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • My iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, but when connected to my brand new ASUS Windows-8 laptop's USB 3.0 port the charging process just keeps "blinking" on both the iPod and the laptop and will not connect to Itunes...

Hi, I HATE to ask for help with this, but I HAVE looked everywhere and Google searched different wordings and have not found anything similar nor a solution to my problem!                                                                                                                                                                                                                               My good old iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, in any house, but when I connect it to my brand new ASUS laptop that has Windows-8 and 3.0 USB ports using the charging/data cable, the charging process just keeps "blinking" BOTH the iPod and the laptop and it will not connect to ITunes and I get "A Device is Detected" message that keeps popping up and going away over and over right above the Windows desktop toolbar.                                                               When I go to control panel and select "Devices" it does show the iPod, but for only a split second and than it disappears, but than it comes back again for a split second and than it disappears again and just keeps doing that over and over and over!                                                                                                                  I have tried resetting the iPod while it is plugged into the laptop by holding the power and menu buttons, that did no good.                                                             I also tried uninstalling iTunes and any other Apple stuff listed and reinstalling it all, that did NOT work!                                                                                          The iPod, the laptop and iTunes ARE all fully updated!                                                                                                                                                                I AM using a brand new charging/data cable that I just opened up an hour ago (I've learned to keep a few brand new ones around at all times since these piece of garbage rip-off cables hardly last a week, even when you baby them!). I also tried a few old cables, they all do the same thing!                                                       I would like to get this piece of junk to connect to my new laptop, even if only once, so that I can change/delete some songs and transfer a few dozen photos, since I haven't been able to do any of that stuff since my old laptop (that NEVER had any problems connecting) died way back in May! lol.                                                                                                                                                                                                 I hope somebody knows a fix or solution! Thank You!

I connected my friends ipod to my laptop whilst I was playing some songs and closed whatever came up on the screen from itunes. Next thing I know his ipod has been wiped and we can't find his music. How do we get his music back? He hasn't got his laptop anymore so the only music he has was on his ipod.

Hasn't he got a backup of his content on external drives and/or CDs or DVDs ?

  • Connecting iPod to new laptop - trying to.

I have installed iTunes and tired plugging in my iPod, but my laptop doesn't see my iPod. It doesn't see it in iTunes, My Computer, or Disk Management. I have turned off the Power Management on my USB ports and I have tired connecting in Disk mode, but it still sees nothing. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    hmmmmm.
even though you don't have a Toshiba, perhaps try disabling the high-speed USB interfaces on that PC. (no need to restore ... we're just checking to see if you can get recognition and a sync with them turned off.)

The Shuffle uses different drivers that the iPod touch so it could be a driver problem.

How can I separate the 3 libraries and open them separately? Please help. I'm becoming very frustrated.

  • Hi I cannot play music on my Ipod lately. I can play the mucis when connected to the laptop. When not connected to laptop, all mucis icons read "No music" which is incorrect. Any ideas welcomed  Frank

    Hi,
I cannot play mucis on my Ipod lately and cannot solve this problem.
There is music there and I can play it connected to laptop.
Without connection to laptop I can play radio but not music.
All mucis icons read "No music" and this is not correct
    Any help apprecaited
    Frank

This category is for iPod shuffle.  Is that the type of iPod you have, because your description of the problem does not sound like it's about a shuffle?  If it's not a shuffle, what is the iPod model...?
There is music there and I can play it connected to laptop.
Are you doing the playing using the iPod, or are you playing the music using iTunes on the laptop?
All mucis icons read "No music" and this is not correct
Do these icons with "No music" appear on the laptop's screen, or on the iPod's screen

Use the backup of the computer to put the media on a new computer.
    iDevices are not backups.
There are no officially supported ways of transferring non-iTunes purchases from an iDevice to a computer.

  • Laptop crashed and how to transfer music from ipod back to laptop and won't transfer new purchases to ipod?

My laptop crashed about 2 days ago. I got it fixed and had to reinstall it. I had to reinstall itunes all over again. How do I transfer all my songs from my ipod including the ones that were from hardcopies and by hardcopies I mean cds I bought in real life and is on a disc. All of the songs are still on my ipod so how do I upload all of the songs and videos (purchases, music/songs from hardcopies/cds uploaded not bought from itunes, etc...?) How would I upload all of that back to itunes on my laptop? Another question is for some reason when I hook up my ipod to my laptop, I recently bought 23 songs about a day ago and it won't upload those purchases to my ipod, is it because I have all the hardcopies and downloads on my ipod that the itunes library doesnt have? Also, how would I sync my newest purchases to my ipod efficiently without deleting any of the hardcopies I uploaded before my laptop crashed?

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • Itunes 7.1.1 - ipod connects with "set up your ipod"

everytime I connect my ipod to my laptop, itunes presents the, famous to me now, "Set up Assistant" window. I hit the cancel button b/c I'm afraid it may erase my ipod contents if I press anything else.
This "Set up Assistant Window" magically appeared one day when I connected my ipod. I went to Disk Utility for a disk verification of both laptop and ipod and they both passed verification.
I'm wondering if it is something I did? I may just go ahead with one of the other options the next time I get the "Set Up Assistant" screens, just to see what happens. I have my ipod backed up, but if it's glitch with itunes or something I can fix easily, i'd rather not erase my ipod. Any suggestions or help, please?
