First Try a Restore from Backup... But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup... Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

The "other" is mainly corrupt files and files that did not get deleted by apps one the app was done with the file. Normally the other s less than 0.25 GB. To reduce the size of other, usually a restore to factory defaults/new iPodis required. Sometimes restoring from backup helps a little.

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.

You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Thanks for the help. The restore seems to have solved the problem. I had a bit of a panic attack when things started going haywire and the Apple 'Support' told me to call back during business hours!

Apps cannot be removed much less added to the device.
Only content from the iTunes store (movies, tv shows, music) can be added/removed on the 1st Gen ATV.
Again, the 2nd and 3rd Gen ATVS have no onboard storage for content and would generate no such message.
Just curious, has your ATV been jailbroken? If it has, no support can be provided via these forums.

Sorry, its on both my iphone 4s (2 iphones) and ipad2 that the app store is slow, I have done all the above and still when i download a 1 mb app it take about a half a hour just to download and previously it wasn't even a second. When browsing the web the devices are fast and internet speed is good, but when going in to app store it takes long to load and show me the new app, updates, featured app ect. We watch movie online and the streaming is brilliant. Even on my windows pc the app store is slow and sometimes says that i store could not be opened, i have also tried on my buddies wifi and there it does exactly the same which makes me think that its on apples side, but why do you not have any problems?

I have a canon MG3200 printer. I have had this thing a whole TWO DAYS! i had issue after issue setting it up and then finally getting it to print the other day when I got it home. A simple 5 minute print job on any of the other printers I used to have, and it took almost 35 minutes to produce an almost decent quality for some important paperwork that I had to have in the following morning. Aside from that- (I just took that to mean it was the "learning" curve) I now tried to print a simple, one page document. Postage for a package to go out tomorrow morning via USPS. Lo and behold, it had a paper jam immediately. A bad one. Had to spend more than an hour searching around for ways to even get the covers off in order to pull the paper free. Got it cleared out, now the P-2-0, or 5100 error message is just blinking away. I've taking it back apart in the back 3 times now, taken the ink cartridges out and looked for paper jammed, not found anything, and now the blinking error won't go away. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to clear that error message??? I am about ready to return this printer to walmart, and get a different one. If it wn't work, then it does me no good. To add to sig's reply, "calibrating" does not calibrate Lithiu-Ion batteries, it calibrates the charge reporting circuitry. If you look at the effect of deep discharging Lithium-Ion batteries in the data from the independent test group, Battery University, you will see that doing so shortens the life of the battery significantly. It looks like an optimum balance between use and life is at a discharge level of 50%.

I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

How do I add a category in iBooks? I have a book with no category. I would like to put it in the Poetry category. How do I do that?

We have one book that has no category. We would like to move it to a category. If I categorize the books in the "books" section, it is the only one that is not categorized. I would like to put it in the Poetry section. How do I do that? I suppose I could make a poetry Collection and move it and all the other books categorized as poetry into the poetry Collection, but there ought to be a way just to add a category.

I got past the confusion of "Genre" in iTunes apparently being the same as "Category" in iBooks, and was able to change the genre/category to Poetry in iTunes. I tried syncing to iBooks, but the Category in iBooks was still blank. I deleted the book from iBooks and synced again. The book was transferred but the Category is still blank. Any more ideas?

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Don't believe it's a factor, but you should update your iOS.
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
