". My phone worked properly before with my sim card
99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, either get a sim card from the carrier your phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked

Your phone was previously hacked to get it to work on a carrier other than the one it was locked to. Restoring it restored the carrier lock. Only the carrier it is locked to can authorize an unlock. Not all carriers will do this. You will have to find out who it is locked to and contact them.

You will have to speak to the mobile operator that your friend was with, because I think iTunes locks the iPhone to that carrier. For instance, if he/she was with AT&T then speak to them... if he/she was with Vodafone then speak to them.
There is no such thing as an unlocked iPhone, at least that is what an Apple Genius employee told me as he explained what iTunes does when your connect the device to your computer. I guess technically speaking before connecting to an internet enabled PC then it is unlocked, but I understand what he was alluding to.
Just to be clear, wait for one of the more experienced users here to confirm or deny what I have written. -

My Jetpack 5510L says that its connected to 4G but its performing very slow, I removed the sim card and did a reset of the device. Any other suggestions?
I don't know who you would contact at Verizon to verify this, but I suspect you are in the same situation as me. My unlimited Jetpack is now being throttled to a basically useless speed of .10Mbps. Sometimes as low as .04Mbps. Turns out this is done purposely as they are evidently eliminating unlimited. They're doing this now even though accounts still display on the my device page as unlimited. They have given no warning, no explanation and started it in the middle of a billing cycle. At least for me. Be prepared to pay about double for 20GB with I think and $8 per gig overage cost. With the 5GB plan it appears they just throttle down to an unusable speed. Currently considering saying goodbye to Verizon myself. Even with some need to change plans and eliminate unlimited this isn't the way to treat customers during the change.

I'm using windows 7 pro 64-bit, itunes 10.3.1. I have an iphone 3gs running ios v. 4.3.3. All software and drivers are up-to-date on my computer.
When I open itunes and plug in my iphone, itunes hangs for roughly two solid minutes. After which, my iphone does not appear in itunes. The same thing happens if I reverse the order and plug in my iphone before opening itunes.
I have read and followed all and I mean all the instructions in multiple articles on the apple support site to try and resolve the issue, and nothing has fixed the problem. My impression is that this is a bug in the latest itunes release since the problem started after updating to the latest version of itunes and did not occur previously. Nothing else changed with either my computer or my iphone since then. In all other ways, my computer, all USB devices connected to it, and all other software installed on it function perfectly.
Here are the things I have done that DO NOT RESOLVE MY PROBLEM:
- restart apple mobile device service and verify it is configured correctly
- restart ipod service and verify it is configured correctly
- restart my computer
- reset my iphone
- verify that my USB drivers are up-to-date and all USB ports are functioning correctly
- verify that my iphone DOES correctly appear in windows explorer and the device manager
- verify that my security software (norton 360) is updated to the latest version
For the record I am not running any third-party phone software.
Here is the only thing I have found that works, however, it works ONLY for the first time I open itunes afterwards. After syncing ONE TIME, the next time I open itunes, the problem comes back exactly like before.

I honestly don't expect anyone to have a solution to this issue, but I will be thrilled if there is one. However, the iphone is visible in the Devices directory in iTunes. I changed my SIM card but still can not be recognized by the iPhone.

Inserting a SIM card does not lock a phone.
If the device is carrier locked, the only way to unlock it is to contact the carrier to whom it is locked. -
After updating to iOS 7.0.1 ( I think it was, could also be iOS 7.0.2), now says that the sim card is missing? Have taken out the sim card several times, but it does not helps.

Disconnect your devices then reboot your computer.
Before connecting your devices again reboot your devices. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
