HT1430 iPhone only recognizes one home wifi network but ipad recognizes both

I have two home wifi networks. My iphone only recognizes one wifi which is the slower. Ipad recognizes both. I've turned router off and on and turned iphone off and on and makes no differences. Also ipad used to pick up unsecured wifi networks but no longer does
which I don't want but wonder why that suddenly changed

Hey Dann4ever,
I would follow these steps for when you're unable to locate a Wi-Fi network on your iOS devices:
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your W-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
Tap i and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Verify that the network is available by tapping Settings > Wi-Fi and choosing from the available networks.Note: It may take a few seconds for the Wi-Fi network name to appear.
Move closer to your wireless router (access point) and attempt to locate the Wi-Fi network.
If you do not see the network you would like to join, you may be attempting to connect to a hidden network. Learn how to join a hidden network.
Supported Wi-Fi configurations vary by iOS device model. Find out which standards your device supports3.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
recently used Bluetooth accessories
VPN and APN settings

There are more recommendations in that above article, so if none of those work I would check out the other options within.
Have a great day,

  • My iPad2 no longer connects to my home wifi network but there is no problem connecting to other saved wifi networks. Currently using iOS8.0.2. with storage capacity of 12.2Gb but only 147Mb free. Disconnecting the router and rebooting the iPad worked

My iPad2 no longer connects to my home wifi network but there is no problem connecting to other saved wifi networks. Currently using iOS8.0.2. with storage capacity of 12.2Gb but only 147Mb free. Disconnecting the router and rebooting the iPad worked briefly as a temporary fix but not anymore

    You could try this
Temporarily disable security on your home network
    See if the iPad connects
If it does then reset the security - with the same or different password

No such option on an iPhone.  Just go to Settings>wifi, tap the name (SSID) of your your home network from the list, then when prompted, enter the password.

I finally figured it out.  Needed to update her Airport firmware and allow guest access, and also changed Sharing preferences to Allow Access for All Users.

  • IPhone 4 wont remember home WiFi network

I had an iPhone 3G and now an iPhone 4. Both would forget my home WiFi network as soon as the phone went to sleep. Sometimes if the phone is put down without it sleeping - it will loose the network and defaults to 3G. It also wont remember the password and keeps asking for it. I can put it in 3 or 4 times before it accepts it. I can switch wireless off and back on again, the phone then remembers the network. Why does this happen?
At work, it always remembers the network with no problems.
I have a 1TB Time Capsule, there is no problem with my MacBook loosing any wireless signal, just the phone.
Everything else is seamless. It seems like a simple problem but I have tried everything. I checked the forums before hand and most had router problems.
    Any help please?

I'd love to know the answer to this as well. I live in Korea where WiFi is practically everywhere. If I have WiFi turned-on, my iPhone won't immediately pick up my home network (also a 1tb Time Capsule) when I get home - it will remember network names that it's picked-up from outside. I've tried ignoring other wireless networks in my building. Why isn't there simply an option where you can select a particular WiFi network as your home network without necessarily making it ignore other WiFi networks that you might be using? E.g. at my favorite coffee shop, free WiFi from my carrier (which sometimes covers whole blocks over here).

What's wrong with it?  You put METAL into a MICROWAVE.  Where did you see this 'iOS Wave' feature?  Was it on the Apple website?  Nope.
Unless you're simply trolling (which is the most likely case), you need to go to an Apple store and hope they don't classify it as Beyond Economical Repair.

  • Able to join wifi network, but cant connect to web or itunes

Picked up 16 GB iPod Touch today at Best Buy. Able to sync music ok. No problems with sound quality using good earphones.
Touch is good but takes a fair amount of pressure. Guess I will get adapted
Able to join my home wifi network, but cant connect to an website or ITunes wifi- says it can't find the server. I entered my WEP key and pressed join. I have a wifi icon with 3 bars. Did I miss a step?
Am converting a few tv shoes so I can test video

Did you try putting it to sleep/turning it back on. It originally did that for me, I put in my key for my network (which is hard, as its many many digits and letters) and it said it couldn't find the server. I turned it off, and back on, started up the iTunes store, and it connected automatically and worked.

  • My iPhone 3G won't display or connect to my home wifi network

    Hello!
I have an old iPhone 3G that my dad gave me a long time ago. It had some problems, but I figured that's just 'cause it's old. But now I really don't know. One of its biggest (and only) problems is that it refuses to connect to my home wifi network. In fact, when I go to Settings > WiFi, it won't even display my network (it did once, but failed to actually connect), or any network, actually. I found once that in Settings > General > About > Network (Not Available), it tells me "SIM not provisioned". I've heard that you don't need a SIM card at all to use wifi on an iPhone, so what's going on here (in case I didn't make it clear, I do have a SIM card in the phone, and this problem occurs whether it's in or not)? Do I need to activate my SIM card (and if so will it cost me anything)? Or is my iPhone just whack?
If I wasn't clear in my question, please ask for clarification in the comments.
    Thanks!

We now have two older phones that will not recognize one of our networks.

  • I entered the incorrect password for my home wifi network and now I can't change it. How do I clear out the wrong password so that I can enter a correct one?

I entered the incorrect password for my home wifi network, and now I can't change it. How do I clear out the wrong password so that I can enter a correct one?

Settings > wi-fi  then tap on the little blue arrow next to the network you want to change. You have to tap on the blue arrow and not on the name.
Now at the top tap on "forget this network".
After that, the iPhone will think your home network is a new network and will ask you for the password to connect.

  • I cannot connect my iPhone 4S to my home wifi. When trying to connect it says I have the wrong password, but I can connect my MacBook to the same network with the same password. I have tried to restart my router, reset my network settings, fail!

Hello, I am having some major troubles connecting my iPhone 4S to my home wifi. When I try to connect on my phone, it says I have an incorrect password. That's not possible because I can connect my MacBook to the same network with the same password. I have reset my network settings on my phone, reset my router, called apple support, triple checked I was trying it in correctly, I have no clue what's going on.
The only thing different is I just moved, but I have the same router/phone/internet provider.
I've seen some discussions of router security options being the problem, I have my router connected to : WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES].
    The other options are: WEP , WPA-PSK[TKIP] , WPA2-PSK [AES] , WPA/WPA2 Enterprise.
My troubleshooting and understanding of all this is pretty limited, my applecare service did not help, please can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

If the issue happened after an update, you may want to go into an Apple Store. Be sure to let them know exactly what's wrong with the device.

  • TS1398 My iphone 5 is does not appear to be remembering my home wifi network and fails to reconnect automatically to it.  My other iphone (4s) has no such problems.  Any suggestions?

My iphone 5 does not appear to be remembering my home wifi network and connect to it automatically.  I have to reconnect manually each time.  My other iphone (4s w/iOS6) has no such problems.  Any suggestions?

It's not a bug in iOS 6, and it won't be fixed. It's usually caused by your phone having been paired to 2 different networks with the same SSID. So it needs to ask which one you meant. Occasionally be corrupt data in the network settings, which is why Allan suggested Forget This Network.
