HT1535 Please update this for the newest version of itunes. There IS no device listing on the left side now, and when I try to drag to the "iPod" word in the upper right, it doesn't allow it.
How to manually sync podcasts or music to an iPod using the newest version of iTunes? Please advise. Apple's i nstructions still say to drag to the iPod icon under "devices" on the left, but that's no longer there. The iPod word appears in the upper right but won't let me drag to it.

I'm trying to install the newest version of iTunes but it's saying the version i have isn't new enough for me to update it. This makes no sense to me... how do I get the newest version?
I Think it is telling you your computer operating system is too old for the newest update.
What are you running? -
Is there an update for the newest version of iTunes. This option "File > Display Duplicates" no longer appears as an option under "File." I just got a new PC and copied my music files onto a portable drive from my old PC and pasted them into the iTunes folder on the new PC. It appears there are several duplicate files. Looking to delete my duplicate songs as simply as possible instead of single track by singe track. Any help would be appreciated.
Press CTRL+B to display the menu bar, or ALT to show it on a temporary basis.

I can not install the newest version of iTunes because of a file that can not be found. This is what I am seeing:(The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. C:\Documents and Settings\Aubrie\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple\Apple Software Update\)
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page).
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Here's a screenshot showing the particular links on the page that you should be clicking:
After clicking one of the circled links, you should be taken to another page, and after a few seconds you should see a download dialog appear for the msicuu2.exe file. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like for me in Firefox:
Choose to Save the file. If the dialog box does not appear for you, click the link on the page that says "CLICK HERE IF IT DOES NOT". Here's a screenshot of the page with the relevant link circled:
When the dialog appears, choose to save the file.
(2) Go to the Downloads area for your Web browser. Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -

Help would be greatly appreciated.
Quit iTunes.
Go to My Music folder.

Just updated to the newest version of iTunes, when connecting it prompts me to update my iPhone to the newest version of IOS; however, when I hit download it says I have purchases that need to sync but where and how do I do this on the newest version? It isn't doing it automatically and I am unable to find the sync button that was available on previous versions of iTunes. Sooooooo sick of trying to fix the bug with the newest version of itunes and Windows 7. I'm over it. Tried syncing ipod to hubby's laptop. When update and sync was complete, all my apps, music, and pictures were gone. When I open my itunes account on his computer, they are gone from there as well. I cannot open itunes on my computer because I cannot fix the compatability issue. Don't tell me how to go to 'computer', click 'program files' etc. etc...... Did that, unchecked compatability mode and nothing is fixed. About to take a hammer to darned thing.
Also, I have forgotten the password to my backup file, which could solve everthing. I don't really remember ever setting a password for the backup file. Tried every password I've ever used with this device.

I have an iPod touch 3rd generation with IOS 4.2.1 and the newest version of iTunes. However, when I press "check for updates" it says that IOS 4.2.1 is the current version. How do I update?
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
Identifying iPod models
iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318. -

I am unable to drage songs from a shared music library between computers. This used to work perfectly until a month ago. I have installed the newest version of Itunes on both computers and have rebooted them, but nothing happens when I try to drag a song to another playlist or another shared folder. Any ideas how to fix this?
Have you:

The newest version of iTunes screwed up my songs Help Please!?!
I don't know what happened, when I installed the newest version of iTunes it deauthorized some of my songs, songs that I bought through iTunes. Also, some of my songs skip in places now, that didn't happen on them before. Does anyone know how to fix this? If so I would really appericeate their help. Thanks.
HP Windows XPSo I think the problem may actually be with QuickTime rather than itunes.
I tried all of the "fixes" listed on the board including adjusting settings in Quicktime etc and tried updating and back-dating my audio drivers but - no luck.
. Even re-installed itunes 7 but no luck.
. Uninstalled itunes 7 and installed 6 (had an old local install file) but - no luck.
. Rebooted etc in each case.
. Uninstalled itunes AND quicktime completely and re-installed version 6 itunes and quick time.
It now SEEMS to work OK - the skipping has gone for the moment but I'll keep an eye on it and let you know....
I still haven't seen a definitive answer as to why this happens OR a fix from Apple.....
Surely something this common and frustrating should be fixed quickly? Surely a post at the head of the board by Apple moderators to point us in the right direction?

I have the newest version of itunes 11.1.3.8. I have uploaded a CD into my itunes library. I would like to add one song only to my iphone. I have created playlists on my iphone and each time I sync all of my iphone playlists get erased and I have to recreated them. after the sixth time, I am very hesitant to do any kind of syncing. Is there a way to just move one song without syncing? I have read some posts that talk about this but have not been able to do it. For example, the "summary tab" does not exist on my version of itunes. I tried drag and drop on itunes as explained in their help section but that did not move the song to my iphone. Please help
You are probably running OS 10.4 or 10.5 on a PPC Mac. No version of iTunes higher than 10.6.3 is available for these older Macs. I have the same problem, and while I can still use the PPC to sync my iPod, it can't be used to sync an iPhone 4 or higher. The only solution, as I discovered after upgrading to the iPhone 4, is to buy a newer Mac. I was able to get a 2006 MacBook running Lion for under $300, and that has been a lifesaver.
