HT1848 I don't have any of the 'support' options on my new computer, and my iphone is synced to my old broken one. What can I do to keep all my files and my purchases?

I am trying to update my device on a new computer. My iphone is synced to another broken computer. I have created a backup, but it says that the items I have purchased will be lost if I go ahead with the systems update. How do i transfer purchased items to my computer, there is no transfer option ANYWHERE... please help!

I have an old ipod (it's the very thin oblong one in purple, the one before the one that does video) and want to know how to get everything off it and into my iTunes library.  My old computer died and the original library was lost, so don't have any of the content saved anywhere else.  I now have an iPhone 5S and listen to music on that, so want to be able to listen to things from the old ipod too.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks very much
    Jane

Apple normally does not get involved in handling lost objects like this.  Since a real name is not installed it will be much more difficult.
You can try contacting Apple support at the US number, assume you are US going to BWI from the listing: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 and explain the situation and see if they offer any suggestions.

  • HT4972 Will I loose all my music of the device when I update my iPod? I don't have any of the music on my iTunes

I need to update my iPod software, but I don't want to if I'm going to loose all my music. I don't have any of the songs on my iTunes on my laptop because my laptop is new. I don't sync my ipod to my laptop for that reason.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup. The iPod will be updated too.
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • Why does Software Update want to install ProKit Update when I don't have any of the listed apps?

Software Update just prompted me to install ProKit Update 7.0.  I don't have any of the applications listed in the description.  I searched for each with Spotlight just to make sure.  My Macbook has only a clean install of Snow Leopard, Microsoft Office 2008, and Xcode 4.0.2.  Why am I being prompted to install this update?
Extracted from the description: This update is recommended for users of Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro, iPhoto, Aperture, Final Cut Express, Logic Pro, MainStage, Logic Express and iAd Producer.

It doesn't check whether any of those applications are installed. All Macs come with iPhoto. You may have removed it, but SU doesn't know that.
I do not have iPhoto installed and it was never installed.  iPhoto is part of iLife, which is on disc #2.  I slicked the disk and did a clean install of Snow Leopard using only disc #1.  I am surprised that Software Update doesn't check what is installed so it knows what update to install, I thought that was the whole point of Software Update.  It seems to know what hardware drivers are installed and will only install updates for those specific drivers.  But fine with me, I will install that update.

My system recovered from a serious error recently. During the error, Firefox crashed. Since I have restarted my system and Firefox, I cannot use any of the toolbar options such as:close, minimise and maximise. Also, when I right click, an outline of a box appears without the visible options although on some occasions they appear after 10 seconds or so. Can you advise me of what to do to cure this problem please or is it a case of using a Windows tool such as System Restore?

  • I need to know how to deauthorize itunes sync.  I don't have any of the computers that it were previously synced with iphone

I need to know how to deauthorize a computer for itunes sync but don't have any of the other computers where itunes was previously synced.

Read this. You will need to deauthorize all computers. If you don't have all 5 computers authorized, apparently this will not work. You have to reach the 5 computer limit first.

It does not magically appear in a new place.  It will only be where you put it.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

Make sure you are using the  correct serial number.  Find your serial number quickly
If you did not deactivate the original installation then it is possible your two allowed activations have been used and you need to reset your activation count.  To do that you need to contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations.  If you ask for more than that they will tell you they cannot offer you any support.
For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
One last thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to a different iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever retrieval method you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • I have a 2009 Macbook with OSX 10.5.8 on it, that I need to erase ASAP. I don't have any of the discs that it came with.

How do I erase my old Macbook as soon as possible?
I'm trying everything but I can't seem to get it right.
    Thanks!!

You'd need a bootable OS X retail installer if the MacBook
shipped with an earlier version and you lost those discs...
Or a correct replacement series of grey-label install-restore
DVDs as shipped with that specific hardware model Mac.
So, if it shipped with a 10.4 system (tiger) a retail Leopard
10.5, or retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD can boot the Mac
and you could use the Disk Utility on the Installer, from its
menu options, to erase (secure erase writes zeros over)
and install a partition map, plus reformat.
You can usually still buy a retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD
from Apple Store, or maybe some authorized specialists.
With discs that would accompany the MacBook into the
future, the installation would be complete since the license
to use the OS X is the install DVD of the system inside it.
Also tools to manage & repair the OS X + HDD are, too.
For the most part, the most likely successful method of
performing disk related chores, is to use a bootable OS X
retail DVD of the system later than the one missing; or
find & get a copy (contact AppleCare main number, and
    ask about availability of replacement original disc set;
this may cost a fee. They'd need to know serial number.)
There may be some way to leave the computer with a
partially crippled OS X with issues, needing repair or
totally erased, by using some methods suggested online
if you do not follow through. Dragging to Trash is badnews.
In a later OS X version, where the system was downloaded
in total from Apple Servers, you'd have a Recovery mode
where either a partition on the Mac HDD would be able to
start up the computer for repair/reinstall, or it could go to
back to Apple Servers to get a system download. But not
with these earlier systems. No legal or bug-free download
can be found online for the complete earlier OS X system.
And in supported older Intel-macs, the computer needs to
be running OS X 10.6.8 to access the Mac App Store and
look online for upgrades, if any, for the hardware vintage.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Any machine that has a ethernet port can go wireless. It may be cheap to buy another computer.
    Ethernet Bridge
Please note this requires mac os x 10.5 or greater to configure or windows xp to configure.
Ethernet Bridge  "The versatile Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge can make any wired Ethernet-equipped device a part of your wireless network."  from linksys example: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-RE1000-Wireless-N-Range-Extender/dp/B005FDXMJS/ref =sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314563758&sr=8-1
Once configured, you can use it on any ethernet port.
Airport ExpressAirport Express is an external unit and you can configure it as a bridge.  802.11n ( I believe you will need a more modern version of Mac OS X to configure.  Sadly, Apple uses a configuration program to configure, not a web browser. )

  • When Firefox begins, I get the message that Firefox has stopped working. Making it impossible to do any of the troubleshooting procedures. Turning off computer and rebooting do not help. Any ideas about how to solve this problem?

Everything was working fine and when I switched from email back to Firefox the problem started. Nothing new had been added before it experienced this problem. I also have IE on the computer, so I can get to this site.

You need "sysinternal's process explorer", it is free and can replace the Microsoft process explorer, that you get by "CTRL+ALT+DELETE". Either program will allow you to kill the instances of FF that didn't die as they should have, when you closed them. Sysinternal is easier to use, it is a graphic display with many options. Do not push "CTRL+ALT+DELETE" twice unless you want to reboot, that is its default behaviour under Microsoft.
