i am downloading the video clips via camera card to i photo ( not by connecting camera and importing) . the video clips appear in the i photo folder alongside the still images but then automatically import to i movie when you open i movie   next time and select last import   in the events library > i photos and select the update thumbnails box which appears .
i want the folders   with the video clips to list in the events library on the LHS in folders   and not   be all open on th RHS.
any ideas /

No, sorry to say, cycling through those 3 dots does not close the chart.
If I have to, I guess I can delete and then reinstall the widget.
Seems like there must be a way to close the chart only....

First, click on the Trash Can at the bottom right of your dock to open the Finder window for the trash. If you have a project (.rcproject) in there, drag it to the Movies/iMovie Projects folder. If you have an Events folder in there, drag it to the Movies/iMovie Events folder. Then restart iMovie.

HT2523 My screen is frozen in text edit ( the swirling lollipop) how do I close the screen or exit

While using text edit my screen froze, now I have the spinning beach ball, or spinning lollipop, but I cannot close the text edit screen. I was transferring data from a web sit when this occurred perhaps too much data??? made this happen not sure but I resorted to using Pages which I am not familiar with at all. I'm not sure that I understand what you mean. However...
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

Yesterday, I was on the internet and a window popped-up saying that another peripheral device was connected to my computer. It froze the internet and then a few seconds later it was ok. I then decided to clean my computer of the unnecessary files and pictures, etc. In Finder, under the Tabs "Today", "Yesterday", "Last week"...etc. I found pictures in the section all images that did not belong to me. When I clicked on the pictures, my computer froze and another window popped saying "connecting to server". I could not restart my computer. I then did force quit Finder and it was ok after that. I restarted my computer and the Word Files from my desktop were all gone (not that I had that many but one was really important). The other things I had on my desktop were Files and they are still there. I also put that file that I need in my dropbox and it is also gone from there...
If anyone could tell me if it is possible to recovery these word files or not? And if my computer has been hacked or something like that...

We can't tell if your machine was compromised or not.
If you have the DropBox online service than that would explain the "connecting to server" issue because that's what it is, a online server.
When the All Pictures did a search, it also did your DropBox.
Wthout a local backup you can't recover your deleted files.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
