HT201177 how to share screens with mini displayport to mini displayport

I recently purchased a mini displayport to mini displayport cable to connect/share screens between my MacBook Pro (2010) and iMac (2009). There is not thunderboldt, so one of the mac genuises told me mini to mini would work the same.
I am not sure if I have to change settings, or what I need to do in order to make this work.
Anybody know how to make this happen?

@ Niel:
iMac is late 2009 27-inch. I am looking to utilize both screens and drag apps and files back and forth. I think screenrecycler is just for display?
I looked into Synergy as well as Teleport. But wondering why neither of my computers are acknowledging the mini displayport-to-mini displayport cable?
If I need software, any recommendations?

  • How to share things with aplication express?

The most important thing for using a database is sharing things, but why I grant even all of one of my table to one user, but she even cannot use it, just say: error; userxxx don't have the right to access the content?
Very strange, and the Synonm is also no good, I create one for another user's table, like create synonm XXX for username.tablename.
but when I want to : Select x,x.x, from xxx, it doesn't work!!!
how to share things with Database?

Better to give you some photos that can let you see
the problem , but that can not happen here.Actually, you can use pictures. Do a screen capture where you're having the problem, upload it to http://tinypic.com and then put the link to the picture here in your posting.
Please be noticed all , me and the users don't know
much about SQL, I know some. So everything has to be
done in the GUI interface.Well, the GUI isn't always enough. If you want to do grants you really need to use the SQL command window - and learn the proper syntax for the grant operation.
I(A) grant select , update, insert on A.xx to user
    B,
but they see onthing in ther Application Express, how
can they do insert and all works just like I do ? What is the parsing schema for your application? Is it set to the schema where your data lives?

If you mean just moving files between a Mac and a PC with XP on it, get a USB flash drive, format it FAT32 (they usually come that way) and copy the files to that drive.

  • How do you share screen with your buddies?

So I wanted to do something with my friends by screen sharing. We both have Mac and Messages. My friends said that we could use messages to share screen. When we try that, we couldn't. We can't select the "Share my Screen with  ......" or "Ask to share ..... Screen" We both are using Macs. Why can't we share screen.

Have you enabled System Preferences -> Sharing -> Screen Sharing?
If that doesn't get iMessages to allow you to screen share, you could try getting a free AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) account and set that up inside iMessage.  I know the AIM servers will pass screen sharing requests.
If you cannot get this working, you could try an alternative such as TeamViewer.com (or at least until you figure out Screen Sharing via iMessages).

  • How to share account with multiple devices?

3 kids with 3 devices - an iPod Touch and two iPads Mini - family shares one account with Apple/iTunes and one library on our family PC.  They use FACETIME and MESSAGES with their friends, and they all see each others messages and conversations.  How do I fix this?  Is there a setting or a way to create sub-accounts off the family account so they can still share the main library for music and video OR do I have to create separate Apple/iTunes accounts for each kid?  Is there a setting on their devices that can help?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I'm not even sure the right question to ask...

  • Still not sure how to share files with my friend's Windows PC?

I went through all the help pages concerning this, but it doesn't seem to help any. On our house internet connection, both our computers use the same IP address. I tried connecting directly to his computer using ethernet cable, but his computer never showed up. Our workgroup name should be the same, his is WORKGROUP but I'm not sure how to officially make mine that. I went to Network in System Preferences and clicked on Advanced... then went to the WINS tab and it has workgroup in the workgroup box, does this mean my computer is using that workgroup name? I'm at a loss and would like to share files with my friend's computer.

    Do you have a router?
If not then sharing files will not be easy.

The add the Mac to the WORKGROUP
Applications > Utilities > Directory Access
    Select SMB/CIFS
    Click Configure
Change Workgroup to match the Windows Workgroup.

  • HT5219 How to share iMac with MacAir with thunderbolt?

I am with an iMac and a MacBook Air connected through a Thunderbolt cable with the aim to interchange files between the two HDs of both computers.
    1. At the MacBook Air, in the Finder I see in the field "SHARED" the information displayed that the iMac is "Connected as Guest" with two options "Connect As..." and "Share Screen".
    (a) At the option "Share Screen", I did not achieve connection "As a registered user" so that appeared the dialog box [Authentication failed to "Petean's iMac" (Please verify you have entered the correct name password)]
Assuming that I entered the correct name and password, I see that my problem could be the fact that to have access to the screen of "Petean's iMac" as a registered user I must first register the "Petean's MacBook Air" as a registered user.
Question (a): How and where in the "Petean's iMac" may I do the register of "Petean's MacBook Air" as a "registered user"?
    (b) At the alternative option for "Share Screen", I did not achieve connection "Using an Apple ID", so that appeared the dialog box [Authentication failed to "Petean's iMac" (Please try again with different credentials)]
Question (b): Thought that I have only one Apple ID (for what the **** could I need more than one?), what need I do next to have access to the "Petean's iMac" screen?
    2.  At the iMac, in the Finder, I don't see anything where should be the field "SHARED" informing that the MacBook Air is "Connected as Guest" with two options "Connect As..." and "Share Screen".
Final question: What really are the first and basic actions that the user must do in order to have an iMac and a MacBook Air connected through a Thunderbolt cable with the aim to have access two both screens (the iMac's screen in the MacBook Air's screen and vice versa) and also to have access to all the files of the iMac's HD(s) from the MacBook Air and vice versa?
Final comment: The time when a Mac user could achieve a full operational connection between two "Powerbooks" using a simple cable, without any protocol - such as login and password - is now past. This old Mac user is still alive to testify for the new generations that he knew Mac machines really friendly and interative.

Currently I do not believe you can network two computers over a Thunderbolt connection.  It would require an additional software interface which Apple has not yet provided. You probably could, though, run them with each other in the more limited Target Disk Mode.
    Hope this helps

  • Adobe Creative Cloud - How To Share Files With Clients and Colleagues | Creative Suite Podcast: Designers | Adobe TV

In this episode of the Adobe Creative Suite Podcast, Terry White shows how to share Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign Files with clients and colleagues and all they'll need is a browser to comment and see your Photoshop Layers.
    http://adobe.ly/10ZjpE4

    Terry,
I guess I miss something. How can I share a folder of photos? When I return from a shoot, I select 20 of the pictures and need to share them with my client to pick up the favorites. Am I supposed to copy and past an URL for each image separately?
Sometimes I also work with a colleague, I need to share my favorites with him. Same issue.
We have tried Adobe Cloud, and then went for Dropbox. There we can share a folder and he can put even his pictures in it as well. That's what I call collaboration. And it is free (unlike Adobe Cloud). If you have some word in Adobe, please tell them to either drop it and make a deal with services like Dropbox, or make it properly.
    Thanks.

  • After upgrading to Yosemite, I am unable to share screen with Macbook Pro

After upgrading to Yosemite 10.10 on a 2008 MacBook Pro I am unable to "Share Screen" using my authorized user account.  It worked fine before I upgraded to Yosemite.
I can access "Share Screen" by "requesting permission", but of course this doesn't work unless I am sitting right by the MacBook Pro to give myself permission, which defeats my original purpose for using "Share Screen".
I attempted to add another authorized "Share Screen" user account, but was unable to access the list of add "Groups and Users" on the host MacBook Pro from the "Share Screen" dialog box.  The dialog box pops up, when I press "+" to add another user, but the list of users fails to appear.  I assume the list of authorized users for screen share has somehow become corrupt.
All other ways to access "sharing user" accounts appear to be working properly.  I can add and remove other "sharing users" without problems.  For example, I can add a new authorized "file share" user and share files without problems.
I ran Disk Utility in Recovery Mode and normal mode and corrected all errors, and user permissions on both machines.  I also ran "resetpassword" from Terminal in Recovery Mode and "reset" user permissions.  I am not an experienced Terminal or Recovery Mode user though.
I also tried turning the Firewall off, to no avail.
I am attempting to access "Screen Share" on the MacBook Pro via a Macbook Air 13" manufactured mid 2013 also with Yosemite 10.10, however, I also attempted with an older MacBook Air which experiences the same problem.

Thanks for the idea but it did not work, I do not know why it is asking me for a password which I never needed before for a guest to use the computer?  I have tried everything and I do not know which password it wants?   I do not see any option for a password for the guest account, to create one or delete one or modify it?  Maybe this bug\problem will be addressed in a future update?

  • How to share documents with iCloud and Pages?

I keep getting reminded to remove everything from iWork, but I don't really understand how to share anything (documents) on iCloud. Am I missing something? (Well, I know I am, but it isn't exactly straightforward to me.)
Could someone point me to some information about that?
    Thanks.

You can store iWorks docs on iCloud, but you cannot share them with others.  The old iWorks beta web site let you host files for other remote users to have access to them, and iCloud (at least not now) does not allow that.
