HT201210 Everything is up to date & yet my phone has gone from not being able to update to now being in recovery mode & unable to restore from iTunes
Okay so I'm based in Australia & own a iPhone 5s
So sometime this faternoon my pohone was perfectly fine. Had my usual signal per suaul when all of a sudden for 8hours my phone started searching for a signal. I asked friends and they had no problem with there phone. So I went to my phone provider for helo (Telstra) & basically all they told me was to do what I told them I was doing. I tried updating my phone to see if that was the cause of the probelm but what happened? iTunes said that it was unable to update & you guessed it & put it in bloody recovery mode! I go to restore it & yes you guessed it again iTunes had an error with that. Was the link it sent me to help? Nope, I had done all of it., My phone is un-accessilbe & iTunes is doing nothing at all
There is nothing to backup.
If the device is showing the Connect to iTunes screen, there is nothing on the device to backup.
The first step in the update process is a backup... restore the device using that backup and try again.

In case that link stops working, what I did was I exited iTunes, and then manually edited my hosts. The process is this:
Go to the hosts file. For Mac OS X this is located at: /etc/hosts or /private/etc/hosts and in Windows it is located at: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open the hosts file with Administrative privileges so that changes can be made and saved (eg: sudo nano /etc/hosts)
Look for a line that resembles something like this:
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Put a # in front of that to comment it out, making it now look like this:
# 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Save the hosts file (control + O)
Flush DNS cache and restart iTunes
Essentially, anything with a gs.apple.com address, put a # and a space in front of it. Then, AFTER that, I flushed my DNS cache. The article says to do that before, but I found doing it after manually editing the hosts was the only way to get it to work. Here's how:
Quit out of iTunes and open the Terminal in OS X Lion, then type:
dscacheutil -flushcache
Then you should be good to go. Hope this takes you less time to fix than it did for me. Cheers! -
An update to my Touch went haywire and I lost my music and apps but luckily I had subscribed to i Cloud and they were reinstated but my music contents page - "artists", "songs" etc. no longer has any colour and the shuffle will not work. Help please?

You have tried turingin on shuffle, right?
Try:
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod. -

Whoa whoa no need to go restoring stuff yet, once you've done that check to verify you have done what Overlook2011 IF that doesn't work for calendars ensure your default account for calendars is set to iCloud and in calendars that it is told to "Show all calendars"

You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option which is revealed in the iTunes app on your iOS device by tapping the more button at the bottom of the screen. -
Hi, my iphone 5 encountered an unknown error while updating to iOS 7 via itunes and is now stuck in recovery mode and prompts me to restore the phone when I connect it to itunes but then I would lose all my data. I DO NOT have any back ups on itunes. Is there anyway to get out of recovery mode without restoring or recover data after a restore?
Or any other suggestions please? ThanksAs pdroth said, you should have gotten a backup made when you started the update of iOS. If you cannot find a backup, and the phone is in recovery mode, there are no futher suggestions to make. To get the phone working again you have to restore. You cannot force a backup at this time since it is already in recovery mode. It will not allow anything else but a restore at this point.

My iPhone 4 started to update but got stuck in recovery mode. I've tried everything anyone on the website has told me to do, but nothing has worked. When you go to turn it on, it shows the Apple symbol, then it goes to the connect to iTunes screen. When I do that, it just says error with the code 9006. I've followed what the Apple site has said to do for it, but the phone is still is the same state. Is there anything I can do? I need my phone back as soon as possible.

Configure your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, or 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.

Okay so I have 2 apple accounts. One is newer & one is my old one. The older one still has money from Itunes on it & when I go to log it will not except my password. Then it asked me my date of birth & it says its incorrect.So I tried to go the email route but i never get anything in my email about recovering my password. What do I do?

It sounds like you are not getting the email to reset your password. If you have a rescue email setup for your Apple ID, the reset password email will be sent there and not your Apple ID email address:
When you provide a rescue email address, all future security emails, such as password resets from iForgot, will be sent to the address provided.

Does it use data to watch a rented movie from iTunes on IPad? Is it streaming or just downloaded?
You must get the movie onto your iPad somehow. If you download it while on Wi-Fi you will not use cellular data. Once the movie has been downloaded you will not use cellular data or Wi-Fi.

You'll have to force the phone into recovery mode & restore it as a new device. This will remove the passcode. All data on the phone will be erased:
Turn your phone off. Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, your only option will be as new. -
How can I store the music I listen to on my iphone without streaming it from the cloud and using all my data on my phone plans? How do I dump it on my phone all at once in itunes rather than waiting for each song to download individually from the cloud?
What?? You asked how to get all your music on your phone at once rather than downloading it to your phone from iCloud.
Go to your purchased list in iTunes and download all your music to your iTunes library, as explained in the linked article. Then sync it all to your phone using iTunes you're done. The music will be stored locally on your phone and you won't have to download it again in the future. -
