I am getting this error, and not finding out how to resolve it, I have done the restor a bunch of times and restarted my computer etc etc.

This is most often fatal baseband hardware error, there is no fix. Here are Apple Steps:
Error 1 or -1
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

Usually occurs on devices that have either been jailbroken or attempts have been made to downgrade the iOS. You can try putting it in DFU mode to restore but you may not be able to fix it. If you phone has been jailbroken we can't support you in these forums as it is against the terms of use.

My iphone 3gs home button stopped working and then the whole phone started doing strange things and then stopped working and froze altogether. so I tried to restore my phone, but after a while it came up saying the iphone can not be restored, unknown error (11)
the phone is still saying that it needs connecting to itunes.
pleasr can anyone help. does any one have any suggestions

These error message is not listed in common issues for iPhone 4 trouble shooting. Does any one knows what is about, or any approach to solve this matter?

Close iTunes and unplug iphone
Search web and download the 2.2.1 ipsw file.
Go to device manager on PC and delete the USB option for Apple under the hardware options.
Reboot PC
Plug in iphone and wait for dreaded connection picture
hold power button and home button until apple logo appears
continue to hold home button and release power button until connection picture appears again
Your PC should now find the iphone in recovery mode
Now open iTunes and it will prompt you to restore
Hold the shift button on the keyboard and click the restore button at the same time
This will allow you to browse for the correct ipsw file
select the 2.2.1 file that you downloaded
your iphone will now restore
Once completed, you will need to resync
Now you are back to square one but at least have a phone that works
Now make an appt at the Genius Bar and make them update it for you
Mine is scheduled for next week

What is "unknown error -50"?

I deleted iTunes and a bunch of other iTunes related files and downloaded the latest version and now it works (if you saw my previous post) but now it says "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occured (-50)." I could just say "Do Not Warn Me Again" but I worry that that will delete my whole library or something if I ignore it long enough. Any guesses as to what I should do? I have a feeling I deleted an important file or something...

redgirl, I had the same error message when trying to sync and backup my iphone. I called apple support and they suggested I turn off my computer and my iphone, restart both, and give it another try. It worked. When I restarted my iMac, the only program I had running was iTunes. It's possible that I had too many programs open before and I just didn't have enough memory or something to do the sync/backup. Who knows. The rep at Apple said he just got off the phone with another user who had the same problem as I did and the "shutdown/restart" option worked for that caller too. Hope this helps.

It sounds like security software may be interferring. I would try to disable or uninstall any 3rd party security software installed.

I suspect you meant 1015, not 1051. You have a jailbroken phone. you can't get help here.

Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
   1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
