Bad juju not having a bootable backup that you can revert back to when you run into these kinds of issues. Get a bootable, external HD, and make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. See these for details:

Back to your issue. Boot with the Leopard install disk, select your language, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, and repair the disk and permissions. Report back. -

This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. Try clearing your browser's cache and redownloading the iTunes setup file.

YOU can't fix it. But you can bring it in to Apple for an out of warranty replacement for $199.

If a phone is sold from one friend to another and wants to use it on a different carrier the friend can contact the carrier it was sold by to request it unlocked. I know AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will give you the steps to unlock it as long as the original contract it was bought under has been completed. eBay/Craigslist is really not the best place to try to get "unlocked phones" from, if it turns out the phone isn't unlocked then I'm really sorry you got stuck with that one and as stevejobsfan said above I would report them immediately and see if you can recover your money. Try contacting iTunes via email to check if there is an issue with the account. go to apple.com/support/itunes
Click on iTunes Store account and billing and select inquiries. On the right side click on "email us".
Before doing that trying viewing your account information first. Open the iTunes on you mac, look at the menu and select store and select view my account. Try removing the card (this is only applicable if you don't have a pending charges with iTunes) and hit done. Sign out, quit iTunes and sign back in and try updating the apps again. -

You need to delete and redownload those applications. His Apple ID is stored inside them.

- ctrl+click each individual album that has been separated
- right click the album in question with them selected
- album info
- update every field to reflect the same except the song title
--genre and album should reflect the same. Sometimes they separate too
- hit ok

- remove all songs and videos
- add them again to replace the defected albums -
