I haven't added any RAM my daughter was using the computer then it hung so powered it down then the beeping started. Macbook pro won't drag and drop using mountain lion

Since installing mountain lion. I have been unable to drag and drop.selected items just stay stuck to the cursor and when positioned where they need to go the item will not drop. the only way to correct this seems to be by pressing escape command and the trackpad which then returns the item to its original position. this has only happened since I installed mountain lion OS X it is getting very annoying. My model is a mid 2009 15 inch laptop MacBook Pro which has 8 GB of RAM, I have noticed that other people seem to have the same problem but have been using an installed item called LapLink display I do not this have,so this is not causing the problem. any help to resolve thiswould be much appreciated.

I now seem to have solved the problem after reading various solutions. The one that works for me is to to put the laptop to sleep and on reawaking the machine works as it should.

unless your MacBook Pro’s GPU supports a resolution with a 21:9 proportion, it won’t completely fill the 21:9 monitor without distortion.
(Here’s a hint: no MacBook Pro GPU supports a resolution with a 21:9 proportion.)

I want to install the latest OS, but I already know that I will lose a lot of my software unless I can partition the hard drive and have two "bootable" drives.
How do I retain everything I have, partition the drive, then reloa the software I own according to which OS it will work under?

This way, you make absolutely certain that no third-party drivers or other SL cruft remains to make Mountain Lion unstable. Update to latest ML point release. Fix permissions. Let TimeMachine make a full backup of your ML installation to a different external drive. Then turn of Time Machine.
In Disk Utility, use the + sign at the bottom of the ML partition to add another GUID, HFS+ Journaled partition for Snow Leopard. Resize to taste. Name it differently from your ML partition. Exhale.
Now ideally, you would like to reverse the external clone and put it back into the new SL partition. Then fix permissions. And demonstrate that you can boot into individually stable OS X installations. This would save you alot of work. Resist copying your home directory into ML just yet.
If you cannot successfully achieve the preceding paragraph, you will be faced with a full SL and application reinstall.
The ~/Library contents for SL and ML are sufficiently different that you do not want to mix them. You may want to salvage Safari bookmarks.plist. And, ML created folders in the home directory may have different permissions or ACL settings than in SL. So, my rule of thumb would be to copy folders that you created in SL, and only the contents of matching named OS created folders such as Music, Pictures, Downloads, etc.
For each operating system, you probably want the Time Machine settings to exclude the opposite OS X partition. If you use the same host name in Sharing prefs, then you will mix SL and ML backups on the same Time Machine back up drive. If you use different host names, they will be distinct folders in the Time Machine backups.backupdb and allow discrete restores per host. You may also want to gag Spotlight from indexing the opposite OS X partition.

Macs that will support OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
As usual, the newer the Mac the better:
• MacBook Pro – 13″ from mid 2009 or later, 15″ from late 2007 and newer, 17″ from late 2007 and newer
• MacBook Air – late 2008 and newer
• iMac – models from mid 2007 and newer
• MacBook – 13″ aluminum from 2008, 13″ from 2009 and newer
• Mac Mini – early 2009 and newer
• Mac Pro – early 2008 models and newer
• XServe – early 2009 models and newer
Macs that are NOT expected to support OS X Mountain Lion
Older Macs and those with weaker GPU’s will likely be left behind:
• Anything with an Intel GMA 950 or x3100 integrated graphics card
• Anything with an ATI Radeon X1600
• MacBook models released prior to 2008
• Mac Mini released prior to 2007
• iMac models released prior to 2007
• Original MacBook Air
This list of compatible and incompatible Macs and system requirements are based off of the first OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview and may be subject to change, we will update when we learn more about the specifics. OS X Mountain Lion will be released this summer but presumably long before that we will know precise system requirements and what Macs are and are not supported by the new version of OS X. What is the max memory allowed on a macbook pro 15" (late 2011), and what speed is the max speed allowed?

I own a Macbook Pro 15" (late 2011) and I would like to upgrade the memory. I want to go with two 8gb sticks but if the motherboard only supports 8gb then I will have to stick with 8gb. Also, the ram that I have in currently, which is the 4gb that came with the mac, is 1333 Mz. Would I be able to upgrade to 1600 Mz on this laptop?

I've just installed mountain lion on my macbook pro. I cannot open preview and it is also stalling the log out sequence? How can I solve this

I've just installed Mountain Lion on my Macbook pro and cannot now open Preview. I've partly solved the reading of PDF documents by installing Adobe Reader, but Preview is also stalling the log out process. Any suggestions how I might solve this annoying trait would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

HT204032 I purchased my Macbook Pro in November 2011 and just installed mountain lion but do not have the power nap option.. anyone know why?
