HT204088 If I upgrade to an iphone 5, can I transfer all the paid apps i have in my iphone 4s?

I have bought several apps for my iPhone 4s and am quite content with it, but when prompted to upgrade to an iphone 5 I was wondering if there is a way to transfer all my paid apps to the new phone. I do not wish to loose any of my data!

You should be able to copy all of your purchases (apps, music, films etc) from your current iPhone to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. As long as they remain available in the store then apps can be re-downloaded, music can be re-downloaded in some countries, and TV shows and films in fewer (and even where films can be re-downloaded not all film studios have agreed to it) - ringtones and audiobooks can't be re-downloaded.
Re-downloading : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
In terms of the apps content and settings, then if you backup the phone to your computer's iTunes then you should be able to restore that backup onto your new phone : how to backup and restore. Passwords (email, router, website) won't be restored onto a different device so you will need to re-enter them on your new phone.
You can also copy photos off your current phone. Just in case the backup and restore doesn't work (it should but it's best to be safe), you may also want to copy any important documents off your current phone as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

  • We have productivity applications that we use on our iPhones. Can we transfer all the stored information to our new iPad? (or do we basically start over?)

    Plz help

Some apps do allow cloud storage, or syncing to the desktop and then to another device. You'd have to check your particular apps' developer's websites, or tell us which ones you need help with.

Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
Its wrong to assume that everyone has a backup copy.
    are you PC or Mac?

I have a new macbook and i want to make it my new home for my iphone, as well as transfer all the items on the iphone. i already removed and deauthorized everything from my old computer.

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above covers your iTunes purchases. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.
also, there are PhoneView and iRip.

  • How do I sync my iphone with my itunes without deleting the music that I have on my iphone?

I just recently had my computer (windows) wiped because my hard drive crashed and I had to re- download itunes. When I try to sync my iphone to the new itunes I had to download, it keeps telling me my iphone doesnt recognize the new one I downloaded and it has to delete all the songs on my iphone to replace it with the itunes I just downloaded, which has no songs. Is there anyway I can just continue adding new songs onto my iphone without having to delete all the songs on it?!? help

  • If I upgrade to AEBS from AE, can I transfer all my settings over?

I currently have an Airport Express.
If I upgrade to AEBS, can I transfer all my settings over. Do you I have to do some kind of backup to do this, or will the airport software on my computer already have my profiles saved?
The type of settings I'm talking about is the network name, type of security I want to use, the MAC addressees of devices I allow on the network, etc.
I also plug my printer into AE. If I plug it into the AEBS, should it continue to work without changing settings? It was a real pain to setup cause it's old, and the software was hard to find.
    THanks.

Although both the AirPort Extreme & AirPort Express base station can store up to five profiles, these profiles are stored on the base station themselves, not on the computer...so, I'm not sure you will be able to transfer them between base stations.

  • How can I transfer all the music from my iPhone to the library on my new computer?

My iPhone was synced with my iTunes on a laptop that has since crashed. I'm wanting to transfer all my music and photos from my phone to my computer, which currently has an empty library. However, I'm worried that if I sync, it will erase everything I have and leave me with nothing. I didn't have anything backed up, so I hate to lose all that's on my phone when some of it is from CDs that I no longer have that were ripped into my previous library.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device witha different setup you transfer the old library from a computer or a backup directly to the new setup, not the device to the library. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • How can i transfer all the music from my old iphone to a new one

my iphone broke. i have a new one and im trying to get all the music from the old one to the new one. i dont wanna delete all the music on the old phone i just wanna like "Copy" it to the new phone but i dont know how thats why im asking for help.

I feel I've explained plenty what you must do but you aren't getting it.
All music on your old iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Transfer the music from your iTunes library on your computer to your new iPhone in the same way it was transferred from your iTunes library to your old iPhone - via the iTunes sync/transfer process.
Since you prefer the manual way, you must manually drag and drop the same 377 songs from your iTunes library to your new iPhone - in the same way the 377 songs were manually transferred from your iTunes library to your old iPhone.
Or you can sync which provides more options overall. Create an iTunes playlist for the 377 songs. Select Sync Music under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and choose selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Select the iTunes playlist below that includes the 377 songs followed by a sync.

  • How can I transfer all the notes entries on my iPhone to notes in iCloud?

I Have a load of notes on my iPhone 4s and when I checked they were not duplicated in my iCloud account. Strangely all of my contacts and calendar ARE there.
IS there any way to copy this data into the cloud?

If they aren't in iCloud, they probably are not stored in the iCloud account.  Open the Notes app and tap Accounts.  Tap each of your accounts to see which one your notes belong to.  If they don't belong to the iCloud account, you'll have to open each one and copy/paste the text into new notes created in the iCloud account to get them in iCloud.  (I know this can be tedious, but there's no other way to do it.)

for purchases from the iTunes store do this:
connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.

What is the problem and why such futuristic device fail to deliver on what is the most important tools we have today " emails " , of I don't get this problem away I must go back to the old device , please help !

This should only happen when you are on cellular and not on wifi.  Scroll down to the bottom of the message and there should be the option to download the rest of the message.  I haven't seen it for a while, so I can't say exactly what to look for.

I have an ipad2 which i am thinking of upgrading to the new ipad3.
I have purchased quite a few apps and wish to know if i can just use them on the new machine or will i have to purchase them again.

If you register both iPads with the same Apple ID, all your previously purchased apps will be available for free in App Store under the "purchased" tab.
