Recurring "connection failed" when selecting TimeCapsule in the sidebar (internet connection works fine).  Clicking "Connect As" starts the cyle over again but ends in "There was a problem connection to the server" message.  Only fix is resetting TC.
The TC is the wifi base station, also have AirportExpress on the network, both of which work fine.  The TC has an external disc connected as well, which is also visible in the sidebar but also cannot be connected to.  Several MB computers use the network, all of which either can or cannot connect to the TC disc depending on when it is acting up.
Any ideas other than clicking "connect as" or powering down the network every time?

Read up how to install 5.6 utility into ML.. it is pretty easy.
I downloaded 5.6
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Download unpkg
http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Open the dmg to get the pkg.. drag it onto unpkg.. and it will create a directory under desktop with all the files.. drag the application to the utility directory.. or just run it direct.
Google if you want more explicit instructions.
Much easier with a real tool instead of a toy.
Hold the option key when you select firmware update.. all the old ones will appear.
But this will not work on newer Gen4.. only on every other model and early Gen4. .I do not know when they turned the corner and started this only 7.6 nonsense.

I am new to Mac...How do I get connected to a server on my network via a hyper link IP address path?  When I try to open in a URL and login as a registered user with proper login it errors out saying there was a problem with connecting to the server?

Some of the following is going to use some technical terms — this area is inherently somewhat technical.
If you don't understand some part of the following reply, please ask.
Is this your own OS X Server system on your own network, or is this some other server within some larger organization?
You're posting this in the OS X Server forum, which is a software package that allows OS X systems to provide web-based and many other services; to become servers.
If it's your OS X Server on your network, then the network and DNS configurations are suspect, or the server is somehow malfunctioning or misconfigured.   This is unfortunately fairly common, as some folks do try to avoid setting up DNS services.
If it's a larger organization and somebody else is managing the server and the network, then you'll probably need to contact the IT folks for assistance; to learn the network setup and DNS requirements, and if there's a problem with the server itself.
The basic web URL "hyper link IP address path" — without using DNS — usually looks something the following, where you'll need to replace 10.20.30.40 with the IP address of your server:
    http://10.20.30.40
UptimeJeff has posted a URL that specifies the AFP file system; an OS X file share.  That's used if you're connecting to an Apple storage service somewhere on your network.  You might alternatively need to specify smb://10.20.30.40 or such, if it's a Windows file server.  (There can be additional requirements for connecting to Windows Server systems, too.)
If there's local IT staff available here, please contact them for assistance.  If these are your own local systems and your own local OS X Server system, then some information on the server will be needed.  (If you're on a NAT'd network, you'll also need to get DNS services configured and working on your local OS X Server system and your network — you'll not be able to skip this step and reference ISP DNS servers here — or things can and usually will get weird.)

  • IPhoto says it cannot import my photos because there was a problem downloading an image, how do I fix this?

Hello! So I have a Sandisk class 10 memory card and whenever I try to import photos onto iPhoto from the memory card it says "IPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image". I have a Macbook Air and IPhoto 9.5.1.. I've tried a lot of what other people say on other questions like this and it still won't work! I've tried using image capture, creating a new library, and creating a new user to see if it worked there. I have enough space for the photos, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Please help, Thanks!

I had that happen a couple of times because even though the camera displayed the  picture there was a problem with the way it was saved to the chip - and that caused problems with all pictures after it.
My version of IPhoto (ILIFE09) does show where the error occurs on direct import from the camera -- on the camera deleting the first picture where the error occurred allowed import of the others.   Once it was the first picture, once in the middle.
Problem happened when I took a second picture before the first one was 100% finished saving.

  • When I rent a movie using Apple TV, it takes several hours to load and then I select watch later. When I go to my rented movies and try to watch it , it starts loading all over again. This can't be normal. Is there something that I am doing wrong?

When I rent a movie using Apple TV,it takes several hours to load. At this point, I opt to watch later. When I try to watch the movie, it starts loading again and tells me that it will be ready to watch in one hour forty four minutes. This can't be normal. Is there something I am doing wrong? Any suggestions.

If it's taking several hours then that is likely due to your internet connection. You can verify at speedtest.net
    6mbps required for instant 720P
    8mbps for 1080P
You can switch to SD in the settings (which only requires 3mbps)
You can also check istumbler or netstumbler for interference
Make sure you are on your ISPs DNS
The reloading is normal. There is no accessible storage on ATV. The small flash is used for caching streamed content, if you access other things or turn the device off it will be flushed.

  • HT4628 my time capsule has stopped working - have a green light but get an error message saying "there was a problem connecting to the server..."

I noticed this week an exclamation mark on the time machine icon on the menu bar.
My Macbook, iPad and iPhone all connect to the network but i get "there was a problem connecting to the server..."
When I open the preferences the time capsule is off but turnign it back on sends me in a loop of selecting the Time Capsule device (which has a nice green light etc) and then getting the error messgae about being unable to connect. I've pulled the plug a couple of times (this has worked in the past) but no change.
Any advice would be welcome before I try a factory reset or have to return to Apple for repair (the one thing they are offering as the thing is only 5 months old)

I also noticed that when I go to finder I see two MacBook Air's that are in my name but have the number (2) and (3) next to the name.
That is a well known bug in Yosemite.
Try open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Sharing
Edit back to the correct name for your Mac
This may...or may not help.  But, it won't hurt.
The Mac's name may stay stable....or you may see (2), (3), etc again soon.
Be sure to restart both your Mac and the Time Capsule after you do this.

  • Lion 10.7.4 "There was a problem connecting to the server"

    Hello, Please Help me!
I work on my mac os 10.7.4 and mac write to me "There was a problem connecting to the server. (Server.name)  The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.'
I did not use any network server at that moment. And the message repeat again and again !!!
What to do? How switch off this function????

I'm back in the office today and the warning disappeared. I suspect that it might be because the backup server is there again.
I will try again tonight at my home whether the warning will reappear or not.
@Efim: Could you check in your Acitivty Monitor. Select "All Processes" from the drop down list in the toolbar. Check whether "backupd" is running or not. It is the Time Machine process. (Just want to make sure that turning off the Time Machine did stop its process.)

    Hi
Thanks this has helped me solve the problem.
I used the Outlook Anywhere connectivity tester you suggested. Selected Outlook autodiscover.
It told me that it could not resolve things on any of the 4 tests.
I saw that using the last test "Attempting to contact the Autodiscover service using the DNS SRV redirect method", was the only one likely to work in my case.
I had already changed 3 entries in dns to point at my DDNS address but this had not worked, from the errors I could see that it was just the certificate name not matching so I changed the DNS entries for Autodiscover, autoconfig and _autodiscover._tcp
to be webmail.domain.com which is a CNAME to my ddns address for the broadband router, which in turn forwards ports 80 and 443 to the exchange server for owa and activesync access. I got an error message saying that I had an illegal entry in my SRV record
as a CNAME is not allowed, but it saved the change anyway.
I reran the test and it worked.I can now make new outlook clients attach teo exchange.
Thank you, after 8 hours yesterday of trying to reolve this I suddnely got it to work on one laptop but the other still would not and had lost track of what I could have changed so had no idea what actually made it work.
    Thank you for your suggestion.

Posting "Check the 'More like this'" area and not simply providing the answer is a great way to make these groups worthless.
You're ignoring context.  On the old Apple Discussion Groups I never posted replies like that, instead giving people relatively detailed answers.  The new Apple Support Communities made things worse by introducing certain inefficiencies.  Then came Lion.  The flood of messages that came with Lion required a painful choice for any of the people who had been helping here: (1) Give quality responses to a few questions and ignore the rest.  (2) When applicable, give a brief answer such as the one that you found objectionable.  (3) Give up all the other normal activities of life and spend full time trying to answer questions here.
People who needed help with Lion problems seemed to have trouble discovering existing message threads that described how to solve their problems.  I never posted the suggestion of "Check the 'More like this' area" without verifying that the help that the poster needed could be found there.  Even doing that, what I posted saved me time that I could use to help someone else.
The people helping here are all volunteers.  None of them is being paid for the time they spend here.  They all have a life outside of Apple Support Communities.  It's arrogant of you to demand that people helping here spend more time than they already do.

  • There was a problem connecting to the server message - displayed when pressing printer email address

HP Photosmart B210, Windows 7...was able to print from iphone yesterday but now will not print. One the face of the printer if the ePrint symbol is pressed for the printer address the message "there was a problem connecting to the server" appears. I can find the device with my phone and on my computer. I can print from the computer but not phone

I understand you are getting unable to connect to server error message on your printer. I would first unplug router and printer for about 1 minute. I would plug router up first then printer. I would then try to enable web services. If not successful and you get same error message. I would follow these steps.
    1. Obtain your printer's IP address
    a. This can be done by pressing the wireless icon on printer.
    2. Enter the printer's IP address in a browser.
    3. Select the network tab at the top of the page.
    4. On the left select networking.
    5. Select Network Address (IP)
    6. Select Manual DNS Server
    a. Manual Preferred DNS should read 8.8.8.8
    b. Alternate DNS Server should read. 8.8.4.4
    7. Select apply you might get a warning just select okay.
