  • Hyperlinks don't work in fillable pdf forms

I have a question for you folks and am hoping you can help me.  I am using Adobe Acrobat X Professional.  I want to create "fillable" pdf forms which include hyperlinks.  When I create a pdf form and "Save as" a "Reader extended PDF" and "Enable additional features" the hyperlinks don't work.  I save the document this way in order to produce a fill-in pdf document.  However, if I save the document as a regular pdf (i.e., not reader extended/non-fillable pdf form) then the hyperlinks work.  Any ideas how I can get the hyperlinks to work in a fillable pdf form?  Thanks!

    Hi Michael:
I'm sorry...I wish I knew what "autorecognized links" were.  :  (  As I mentioned in my reply to David, I created the hyperlinks in Microsoft Word before I converted the Word document to a pdf.
I have resolved the problem and posted my step-by-step solution a few days ago, but for some reason I don't see it in this forum.  It kind of goes like this...to get hyperlinks to work with fillable pdf's:
    1. Create Microsoft Word document and save when done.
    2. While in Word, click on "Acrobat" on menu bar (assuming you have installed Adobe Acrobat X Pro on your computer) and "Create pdf;" confirm that hyperlinks work and close document.
    3. Open pdf document with Acrobat Pro and selected "Create pdf form."
    4. Edit the "fillable" parts of the document (e.g., make all fields/text boxes 10 pt. font size...I wish there was a way of setting the default so you wouldn't have to manually do this for each field/box, but haven't figured out how to do that one yet).
    5. Close form editing.
    6. Select File --> Save as --> Reader extended pdf --> Enable additional features.
    7. Save file
    8. Close file and re-open to verify that hyperlinks and fields work/are fillable.
That's my solution.  There's probably an easier way to do this, but it works.
    Thanks,
    Chris

I have had a trial version of Acrobat X1 Pro - I have decided not to buy at this stage - for some time it has been conflicting with opening PDF docs after "saving as" from word 2007 - I uninstalled Pro X1 and now when I "save as" PDF from word 2007 to PDF it will save the document as a PDF but will not open the document to display after publishing - I have to got to where the file has been saved to view the new PDF document - this is really annoying - do I have to delete adobe reader and reinstall it - adobe needs to look at this conflict with acrobat pro as I have even gone it to properties and tried to have adobe reader as the default PDF program - the main issue is that I cannot view the PDF after publishing it from word 2007

  • Error message an error occurred while signing in " when I worked with Create PDF and at the signed

Error message "an error occurred while signing in " when I worked with Create PDF and at the signed in status. Please help so that I can continu my work.

    Hi Stacy,
    Thank you for your attention.
I have been working with Create PFD under normal procedures including
sign-in and several documents had been finished. However, when continued
creating another document the computer took a long time to pprocess and
finally a mesage appeared: "An error occurred while signing in" and stopped
there. I clicked the OK button and start creating again and the same
message appeared once more. I tried to log off and log in again in no
avail. So I went to the help site and called for help.
Later, I decided to reboot the computer and tried once more. This time it
worked and I continued creating. Thanks.

  • Working with old PDF files - Release Clipping Masks

    Hi Everyone....Please Help Me!
I am regularly required to work with old pdf files for my company, which I have to open in Illustrator to amend and update (we don't have access to the original .ai files).
Whenever I start to work on these files I have to spend ages just unconnecting the elements of the artwork, usually by right clicking and choosing "release clipping mask"
Is there a way to just disconnect everything when you open up an old pdf document in Illustrator?
    Tá mo chroi bhríste
(it has my heart broken - in Irish!)

Always keeping a careful eye on the effects of released clipping masks, the process can be accelerated using the keyboard shortcuts rather than hunt-and-click.
    Open the PDF.
    Ctrl/Cmd+A (Select All)
Ctrl/Cmd+Alt/Opt+7 (Object > Clipping Mask > Release) Hold down Ctrl/Cmd+Alt/Opt and tap the 7 key repeatedly to initially release all top-level masks, then continue through the levels of nesting that may be present. With Show Bounding Box and Show Edges active it's easy to see when the releasing has stopped...usually only a few levels.
Deselect, then find one of the orphaned mask objects, which will have a fill and stroke of None. Select it, then choose Object > Select > Same > Fill & Stroke to select all the orphaned mask objects.
    Delete.

  • Working with Exported PDF in Word - text jumps around

I just purchased an Adobe Export PDF subscription and am having trouble working with the document once it has been exported to Word.  The cursor jumps from place to place, as do words.

Try selecting the text you want to change within Word, then choosing a different font for that text.  I've seen this really help with the text-jumpy issue that occurs from time to time in files converted with ExportPDF. The underlying cause is usually a poorly or incorrectly embedded font in the original PDF.

  • Firefox behaves differently with different PDF docs on my web site

I am running Firefox 3.6.6 on Windows 7 Home Edition. When I update a PDF file on my web site, and I try the updated web page in my browser, Why does my browser prompt me to save the file with the updated file, but it displays inside the browser with other pdfs on my site? I get the same results with IE. The files are very similar, but yet, the browsers treats them differently.

''Possibly'' because when you access the file from your hard disk (I assume that's what you mean by "try the updated web page in my browser") and when you access it from a webserever, the file type is different. If you're brought up with windows you might think that the file type is determined by the extension (.pdf) but it's not. Depending on the webserver, your operating system, and your browser, it ought to depend on the 'mime type'
So try uploading the amended page to your webserver (in a test area) and see if it works off the web.

  • How to bring Windows 7 snap window to OS X to work with two apps/ docs side

I quite like the feature that windows 7 has to allow working with documents or applications side by side filling the screen. I know that i can resize each window but it seems a little fiddly and i'm thinking there must be a way to have it automated.
How can i get this feature. Could automator be used although i haven't used it before. Had a look at it before and find it a little confusing as i don't know how to use it.
    Or are there any applications?
    Would love your help.

your best bet is sending apple a feature request
I agree. That would be a cool feature.
Kind of like a refinement of what Spaces does. Being able to sub divide the screen into work areas.
With screens getting so large it would be very useful.
yes, but I wouldn't bet a lot of money on apple implementing it. OS X has its own host of features like spaces and exposé and implementing this one might be too much like copying Windows which they hate to do...

  • Do I need pages work with/save Office docs?

I'm confused on how iCloud works with saving documents.  It mentions a number of times that you can work with Office documents, but then it says you need Pages on both my iPhone and Computer to be able to work with and save documents in icloud.    How exactly does that work?
I need it to sync between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 4.

I'm with you so far.  Then when I work on them on my iPhone, can I save in Word?  Everyone I know has Word and not Pages, so I'm concerned about send files that they can't open.

  • Working with a PDF package

I've got a (fairly) simple PDF file that is a PDF package.
I can't seem to find any information how to 'get' at the PDFs within the package (for printing).
I have this code to print a simple PDF:
        Dim PDF2 As Acrobat.CAcroPDDoc
        Dim av As Acrobat.CAcroAVDoc
        Set PDF2 = CreateObject("AcroExch.PDDoc")
        'Open main PDF document
        'Plain PDF document:
        PDF2.Open "G:\plain.pdf"
        'PDF document as a package
        'PDF2.Open "G:\packaged.pdf'"
'Print just the first page of the file to the default printer
        Set av = PDF2.OpenAVDoc("Title")
        av.PrintPagesSilentEx(1, 1, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0)
        av.Close True
For the file 'packaged.pdf', how do I print the first page of the first PDF inside it? Or all the pages of all the PDFs?
The IAC developer guide at http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/iac_developer_guide.pdf?bcsi _scan_A4C9E8056B19D97F=0&bcsi_scan_filename=iac_developer_guide.pdf
    doesn't even mention packages.
Neither does the IAC API reference at http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/iac_api_reference.pdf?bcsi_s can_A4C9E8056B19D97F=0&bcsi_scan_filename=iac_api_reference.pdf
    What am I missing?
    Thanks for any help.
    Peter

You may have to use the JSObject interface, which will allow you to open the attached files, which are data objects. See the Acrobat JavaScript documentation, starting with the "dataObjects" document property and go from there. For printing, see the "print" document method.

  • Designing a Field Editable Header for Merging with Exsisting PDF doc

I'm trying to accomplish designing a Field Editable Header so I may merge (import) into an exsisting PDF file to create 1 file.
I have already designed my header in Live Cyle with editable fields. The only issue is when I save it as a PDF file I can't merge this with an existing PDF file to make just 1 PDF document.
I also tried importing the header as a stamp but the issue here is the fields no longer stay editable in my header.
    My Business:
What im trying to accomplish is sending out Submittal Sheets (Information Documents) with a professional looking header. I want to make this a simple process were I can open up a PDF document and place in the header (has to be with editable fields) for several PDF documents.
Attached is the header I designed and would like to merge with PDF documents to creat 1 file. Please Note; the header has to still stay editable.
    Thanks,
Anyone that can help would be greatley appreciated, James Alto

And That would require a PC, because LiveCycle Designer does not exist on a Mac and most likely never, ever will.
Or would require The cost of Parallels about $80, Windows 7 upwards of $300 depending upon the version, and what ever Live Cycle designer Cost around $100.00
Or buy a decent PC (not one of the 2-300 dollar jobs that all is good for is using IE) with windows 7 on it. Then get a Copy of Acrobat and Live cycle Designer.

  • Reader 9 stops working with web PDFs...

Have just upgraded to Acrobat Reader 9 on Vista and since changing from v8 to v9 I cannot any longer open pdf links in IE7, Firefox 3 and Google Chroma.
When I try I get a message saying that " The Adobe Acrobat/Reader running cannot be used to view pdf files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again."
I have both 8.1 Acrobat as well as Reader 9 installed and this used to work before I upgraded the reader from 8 to 9.
I have used the REPAIR option in reader 9 but to no avail.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Florian

I have exactly the same problem and there is a thread on the forums to that effect.  Unfortunately I accidentally just marked this as "Answered" and cannot figure out how to undo that.  I have tried Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome and Firefox.  I tried tweaking the settings in Acrobat, none of this works.  Firefox I have managed to find a way of making it work through Tools - Add-Ins and then selecting Adobe 9 for the plug-in.  However, I cannot persuade the other 2 Browsers to work as there is no equivalent.  If anyone has an answer to this it would be really appreciated.

  • Ipad 2 Help with ppt, pdf, .doc, .xls ?

I have recently bought a Ipad 2. I am in the army and have alot of slideshows and documents I want to be able to transfer to my ipad and view them and give classes. I am not to good with apple since I just got the ipad. I am looking for a way to keep all my files on my ipad and allow me to view them on my ipad for classes with my fellow soldiers. If anyone knows anything, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! My operating system is 4.3.5 (8L1).

I use Documents To Go Premium - views all those documents. Others that are popular are Quick Office, Office^2, and the seperate Apple apps (Pages, Numbers, Keynote).
Just realize that all of these are limited compared to the full computer versions and won't have all the same capabilities - you will likely lose your transitions and animations from a PowerPoint, for instance, or be unable to footnote.
