It all depends on the definition of "factory unlocked". If the phone was purchased directly from Apple and the receipt says "Unlocked" then updating or restoring it will leave it unlocked (Apple never uses the term "factory unlocked" as there is no such thing; phones are unlocked at activation time). Similarly, if it had been locked to a carrier and the carrier authorized it to be unlocked, and you went through the unlocking steps they provided, it is permanently unlocked.
Unfortunately, a lot of the phones sold as "factory unlocked" were actually unlocked by hacking in the "factory" in the basement of some shop somewhere. These phones at best will become locked to the original carrier if restored, and in the worst case will be permanently disabled if restored.

I sync'd iPhone 5 two days ago w/o any issued or problems. Connected phone to iMac for a charge yesterday and iTunes stated an auto sync. iTunes popup box appeared stating phone could not be sync'd b/c I needed an additional 27GB of storage, apparently to load iTunes Library. I did not change or modify any settings. Has anyone experienced this or know how to solve this syncing issue.
Side note: iTunes does recognize that my phone is plugged in, charging. Thank you.One additional finding this morning ... iTunes can't handle my iPad being connected. Immediately upon recognizing the iPad, iTunes comes up with the same message as happens with the iPod indicating "iTunes has stopped working," forcing an immediate shut down of the program. Opposite the case with my iPod, iTunes at least recognizes my iPad.

Why do unlocked iPhones get locked to the first carrier SIM?
I wanted to buy an unlocked iPhone 5s in the UK. I was told at Phone4U that it will get locked to the first carrier SIM which I put in!!! And I will not be able to switch!!
I am an international student and travel a lot to my home country, isn't there any way I could buy an unlocked iPhone which remains unlocked, providing me flexibility to switch carriers ??That has been an ongoing issue with "unlocked" iPhones from CarPhones and the place you mention...the iPhones are not unlocked in the true sense. They are setup to lock to the first sim inserted for activation. There really isn't away around this, either. Only the Apple store sells truly unlocked iPhones.

I'm unable to add the email address for iMessage, that I was using before iOS 7 to my iPhone, because it says that it is "in use by another device," but I have no other devices. How do I resolve this so I can add this email address to my iPhone to send and recieve iMessages?
Sync your iPhone to iTunes, and see if that does the trick. Also you could try a Soft Reset with no Risk to Data. Holding down both the Sleep button and the Home button until the Apple logo appears and then waiting for the Reset to bring you iPhone back to the lock screen. Are you trying to add the email at Settings>Messages>Send and Receive from (2 Addresses) your iPhone number and your email address?

Good afternoon, I'm normally the security code disabled but yesterday as he visits I enabled it and put my usual code but my iphone 4S version 5.1.1 and says it is wrong now only ever asks me to connect to itunes or me allows you to enter the code again.

i just recently upgraded my itouch from 4.1 to ios 5, and updated to itunes 10.5. but when i synced my music files,ebooks and other apps, all is working except when im trying to sync my video files. it says, canot be synced as cannot be played on this ipod. but those are the same files that i have when i was using the old 4.1 version and its syncing just fine.. the itunes advanced tab "create iphone or ipod version" is not working either so i cant convert it to be xferred and synced. what can i do to have my video files synced?
i had the same problem but i just got a new video converter and made it convert videos to ipod/iphone format and then put them into itunes. i would suggest GOM encoder as the encoder can convert them and then once they're finished converting, put them automatically into your itunes for you. from there you can just sync them to your ipod.

HELP I keep getting an error message on my IPHONE 4 that says Unable to connect to Cellular Data and I have tried to reset network settings and factory reset but nothing helping so far. Took it to Verizon and they couldn't fix it either, said it's a problem with the phone itself and to contact Apple. My warranty is expired so Apple isn't much help either. How do I fix this? I have a data package so confused and I have had my phone for over a year but never had this issue before.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

My 3gs won't take pics. It says it's full and to delete pics/vids, but I only have 30 pics and I've had tripple that plus vids and it took pics fine. How can I get my camera working again?
The number of pictures/videos on the device is irrelevant. If there is not available space on the device, there is no way to take pictures. Pictures, videos, music, iBooks, and any other media share the same space.
Might be a good idea to manage the content on the device going forward so that there is always space available.
Try not to fall into the misconception that many others experience, believing that the iPhone is a storage device, it simply is not. Instead it is intended to be a mirror of the content on the computer.
