ONLY the Carrier the phone is Locked to can Unlock it.
Contact the Carrier and ask if they offer this service and if you qualify.

Hi! How do you unlock Nokia Lumia 1020 w/c is locked with AT&T? I just bought mine in the US a couple weeks ago, but before I bought the phone I asked the AT&T Customer Number (1-800-331-0500) that I am a non-US resident and I bringing the phone to my Country. The lady on the other line told me there's no problem as long as I am buying the phone with no obligaation / pay in full price of the phone and call them again thay can unlock the phone. When I bought the phone and called again, the person on the other line told me he can't and the only way is thru website www.att.com/deviceunlock. Now, I've been trying to unlock my phone since Aug. 31 but no avail. So, are those people in AT&T customer service didn't really know what are they doing and if it is really in their hearth to be called a customer service representative? Because, if they knew what are they doing this should have not happen and I should not bought this phone. Now, when I blog thru their website somebody emailed me and telling me different policies again, here is the last email he sent me.

All you have to do is to put your iPhone into DFU Mode
Just simply connect your iPhone to iTunes, hold the power button + home button for 10 seconds, later by holding the home screen button continuously (Without leaving it) until it appears to be in recovery mode in iTunes.
You now hit the restore button in iTunes. It will download the latest version of iTunes, which might take a while.
After that, it will install the iOS (51.1) which might take 7-10 min. And you're good to go!

"Verifying updated iPhone software" message for 4 hours now, please help!
I'm trying to update to 1.1.1 for 4 hours now, and after downloading and extracting the "Verifying updated iPhone software . . ." message doesn't disappear, nor does it advance or anything.
my phone has never been hacked in any way nor have there been any 3rd party things installed. I signed up as a new at&t customer on day 2 of the iPhone release and never had any trouble till now.
I'm currently overseas and won't be back for the next month. so I've been using me iPhone as an iPod and mail device (wherever I have wireless access) since at&t isn't working here.
could that be why it is not verifying the software and "stuck" in this mode for more than 4 hours now?
I haven't gotten any of the error messages that are mentioned in the other threads, but I'm afraid to disconnect it, as I'm not sure what's going to happen.
Please help!never mind. I disconnected it, had to restore it to factory settings, but it all came back and now it's working with the new udpate!

You can use 3rd party software such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone on an external drive.
I use SuperDuper to create a clone. Yes, it's true the Recovery HD will need to be recreated after restoring a clone because neither of these softwares nor Time Machine backup that partition. It's really no big deal. You just reinstall Lion on top of itself after the restore and reapply any Software Updates including the 10.7.1 update. I've done this a few times with no issues.
The Lion Recovery Assistant app creates an external Recovery HD on like a USB thumb drive, but it creates this using the Recovery HD from your Lion install. If the Recovery HD is missing, the app will not create one for you.
EDITED:
Create your bootable clone on an external drive.
Create an external USB thumb drive with the Recovery HD using the Lion Recovery Assistant.
Swap out hard drives.
Boot from the USB Recovery HD thumb drive.
Use Disk Utilities to create a new partition (Macintosh HD), format it with the GUID partition table and Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
While in Disk Utilities, click your hard drive (not the new partition); then click the Restore button.
The Source of your restore is the external clone you created. The Destination is the newly created Macintosh HD partition.
Click the Restore button. The restore will take awhile depending on the size of the clone.
After the restore, boot your system and it should boot into Lion.
Reinstall Lion on top of itself to recreate the Recovery HD at the end of your Lion partition.
Reapply Software Updates including the 10.7.1 update (if you want it).

If the phone is locked to a carrier then you will need the carrier to unlock it And only the carrier can do that.

. How do I fix this? It's just mine. My friends and her moms Iphones appear in both spots so it's not the cord. Help! I've tried uninstalling and redownloading Itunes. That didn't work. I've reset my iphone numerous times. Turned it off and back on. Restarted my computer. Deleted everything off of it and restored it from backup. It works on my friends computer perfectly fine but it won't work on mine. I've tried everythign that the Apple troubleshooter said to do and none of it worked. If you bought them on your iPad then you will need to connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to the Tones part of your computer's iTunes library and you can then sync them to your iPhone - ringtones are a one-time only download, so you won't be able to redownload them directly on your phone.

Was it purchased from an official Apple Store, not a reseller? Only Apple Stores sell official factory unlocked phones. The others sell hacked to unlock phones, and the unlocking is unstable.
Try these steps, as needed:
1. Reset phone - press both home and on/off buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
3. Replace SIM card (and reset network settings again)
4. Restore Phone in iTunes using a backup
5. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup -
