  • HT4623 How do I get the latest IOS update for my iPad 1st generation model# MB294LL?

I have a 1st generation iPad that has a very outdated IOS version due to I forgot how to update. I do not have the update option in my setting menu like you find in newer iPads. Any suggestion?

See the section on Updating Using iTunes:

Note: the highest version of iOS the original iPad can support is iOS 5.1.1

  • HT4623 is there an update for the ipod 4th generation with ios7

Is there an update for ipod touch 4th generation w/ ios7?

As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod. Not enough RAM
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

  • Why aren't there anymore updates for the ipod 1st gen?

Why aren't there anymore updates for the ipod 1st gen? I can barely do anything on it now and it would be a waste . its only 4.2.1 just make it to ios 5

Because the hardware will not support a higher iOS.

  • How to update software on iPad 1st generation

Why I'm I unable to update software on iPad 1st generation.

Apple made the decision that the processor and memory on the iPad 1 were not sufficient to give the user an acceptable level of performance with the iOS 6 and above software.

  • Where can I find "old" apps for my Ipad 1st generation?

    Hi,
I am buying an new iPad Air and gave my first generation iPad to my wife. It's still in very good condition. She uses it for her emails, some internet activities and reading the newpaper. I swiped the iPad clean and installed it again under her apple account. Now there is the problem. The app for reading the newspaper isn't working anymore. It requires IOS 6 and the iPad is limited to 5.1.1. Further updates for the iPad are not possible.
Why is it that the "older" apps are removed from the store? Is there a possibility to find the old version of the apps somewhere?
    Thanks for your help.

Some developers allow older compatible versions of their apps to be downloaded from the store (the app store is the only place to get apps for iOS devices) - it's the developer's decision as to whether it's possible for their apps.
If the developer does allow it then try downloading the current version of their app on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in your purchase history, and then on the iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and you should be able to download an older compatible version of it.
If the app is a paid-for app then you should check with the developer first to see if the above will work, rather than buying the current version and then finding that the developer doesn't support the above.

  • What use is an iPad 1st generation , no apps will run on it i. e eBay etc

iPad  1st generation is useless to me and my kids, any apps we want won't run on it, what's the point !

Since you are limited to iOS 5.1.1 on an iPad 1, this may be of interest.

  • Are there any updates for the original 4th generation

My ailing mother has an ipod that she has had for years but has not registered it.  My want to see if there are some updates for the original OS.

Sync it via iTunes and see if it shows any updates available.

  • I just tried to install a the new update for my iPad and it started but now its stuck with the apple in the window and it won't finish the update

My iPad is stuck with the apple and the updating line but it is not finishing the update and the iPad is stuck I can't shut it off nothing is working just the bright white apple in the window.

    Hi rm44,
Try resetting your device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the reset is complete, the Home or Lock screen will display. Once the device is back up, go to Settings>General>About, and see what version is displaying. If it has the iOS number you were updating to, then you are all set.
If it has the old iOS version number, then the update did not take place. The best thing to do in that situation is to hook the device up to iTunes on the computer you sync with, and to update via iTunes.
    Cheers,
    GB

  • Are you gonna make a 4.0 update for ipod touch 1st generation?

are you gonna make a 4.0 update for the ipod touch 1st generation??

This forum is for support, and not asking Apple for features. You can submit feedback to Apple if necessary.
Chances are, no. iOS 4 requires more power than the iPod Touch 1G was made with.

  • IOS 3.1.1 Software Update for iPod touch 1st generation failed.

The downloading process was stucked in the Thank You screen ("Your update is downloading... ") for more than 2 hours and not going anywhere, nothing was downloaded at the end.  Anybody has the same issue before?
Reported to the help desk for more than a month, got a reply saying it is an ongoing issue and is still under investigation!
I use the same PC to sync my iPad and had no problem to update it with the latest iOS software.
    What could be wrong?

If, under "Requirements" it say ipod touch, then yes it will work.
If, under "Requirements" it say iphone, then no.
Look at the requirements. This is why they are posted in the product description in itunes.

  • IOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)

I have purchased this update from the iTunes store but there's no indication that it is downloading and the ipod is not updating. Verbatim, the screen in iTunes  (including an incomplete second sentence) reads:
Your update is now downloading.  This can take 30 minutes or more on a typical broadband connection.
    Once the download is complete
Please do not disconnect your iPod touch until the update is complete.
I have allowed probably up to 90 minutes on several occasions to download the update but still see nothing.  Current download speed at broadbandreports.com is 14 mb/sec.
If I try to repurchase the update, iTunes tells me I've already bought it, but clicking on the download option is no different.
    Any advice much appreciated.
