HT3727 Adding a shadow to text in Pages 09

I do not have a "Shadows" button under the Fonts menu.  Very frustrating as I would like to add a shadow to some text.  Any suggestions?

You can click a text box to select it, and then in Inspector -> Graphic, click Shadow. The shadow controls are then live and what you choose is applied to all text in the text box.
Or:
As Jerrold says, get the cursor showing inside the text box, go to the Fonts pane and click on the T (at the left of the red-edged oval in Jerrold's picture). Having that selected will cause the shadow controls in the Graphic pane to be live for whatever text you select in the text box. That way, you can select some text and apply some shadow settings. Then you could select some other text in that text box and apply different shadow settings.
You could try to effect shadow settings just using the other controls in the Fonts Panel, but they are too small and fiddly.

    Yes.
Open the Effects palette. In the drop-down. go to "Drop Shadows." You will find several listed. After you have applied, double click on the f on the text layer in the layers palette. This will bring up the Style Settings. Here you can fine-tune the shadow..
Note that in the drop-down referenced above, there are also Bevels which may enhance your presentation.

  • How to avoid sorrouding p tag added by the default text component on editing a text in a page

We are using Default Text component(foundation/components/text) within a CQ5 Page. The text component is automatically adding a <p> tag surrounding the text in the text area. We would like to control this behavior of auto addition of the <p> tag in the text component. Please suggest us a solution to avoid the <p> tag around the text.
Here is the brief backgroud- We are doing a migration of html pages into CQ5. The editable sections of the page are converted to CQ5 Text components with in the page. While we are creating the page from the backend, we are not adding the <p> tag surrounding the page. However after creating the page, if users goes to the page and edits a text block within a page, the additional <p> tags are getting added which is disturbing the styling.
Let us know if we need to provide more information on this.

    Hi Vamsi,
I am facing same kind of issue.
As of now I am thinking of overritng the css applied by this <p/> tag.
If this p tag is fallowing same strucute then though of putting reqular expression to catch hold of this tags on the page.
Some thing like it always creates with id

  • Adding a Drop Shadow to text in InDesign CS6

I have no character styles in my recent installation of Cloud InDesign CS6 and want to know how I import these effects.

Character Styles and Drop Shadow, (an object-level effect), are not related. There is nothing to import.
To apply a drop shadow to text, select (black arrow) the text frame and choose Drop Shadow from the fx menu at the bottom of the Effects panel, (Window > Effects). The Drop Shadow dialog opens where you set the parameters of the effect.

this is more the realm of javascript / ajax / DHTML, not JSF. JSF is server side, what you want to do is mostly client side. Only getting the data might involve the server.

  • How to reformat a text in Pages?

Does anybody know how to " clear format" a text in Pages? You can do in Word. Thanks a lot.

Happily, Pages isn’t a clone of Word.
It’s not supposed to replicate its features.
Here is a slightly modified version of a script posted about a month ago.
Open the Pages Word Processing document to treat then apply the script.
As it was written as a demo of what may be done, you will have to edit some instructions to get the exact wanted format (mainly those applying colors).
    --{code}
    --[SCRIPT clear_Pages_format]
Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : clear_Pages_format.scpt
déplacer le fichier ainsi créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
    --=====
    L’aide du Finder explique:
    --=====
Save the script as a Script: clear_Pages_format.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Pages and even the folder Applications by yourself.
Open a Pages Word Processing document.
Go to the Scripts Menu, choose Pages, then choose “clear_Pages_format”
The script will apply the font Courier and some other attributes to the embedded text.
    --=====
    The Finder’s Help explains:
To make the Script menu appear:
Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
Select the “Show Script Menu in menu bar” checkbox.
    Under 10.6.x,
go to the General panel of AppleScript Editor’s Preferences dialog box
and check the “Show Script menu in menu bar” option.

  • Paragraph style - Drop shadow on text

    Hi,
I cannot find out how to apply a drop shadow to text in a paragraph style.
It looks like drop shadow can only be applied to Object style.
And object must be selected with selection tool. My text box goes up to 30 pages!
I don't want all the text with shadow.
Any help or cue will be appreciated.
    thanks

Drop shadows can only be applied to all text within a Frame. You will need to separate the paragarphs you want a drop shadow from and Anchor those within the text.

  • Textframe on Masterpage & Individual Text on Pages

Is it possible to use a textframe on a master page for means of common positioning of texts?
On pages based on this master page, I'd like to put individual text into this frame, or at least the exact location. Then, when I change the position of the textrame on the master page, the position of all textframes of the pages follow suit.
Thank you for paying attention to my problem.

    From this link:
Using text frames on master pages
When you start a new document, you can select the Master Text Frame option so that an empty text frame is placed on the document’s default master page. This frame has the column and margin attributes specified in the New Document dialog box.
Follow these guidelines for using text frames on master pages:
Set master text frames when you want each page in your document to contain a page-sized text frame into which you can flow or type your text. If your document requires more variation, such as pages with different numbers of frames or frames of different lengths, leave the Master Text Frame option deselected, and use the Type tool to create text frames on masters.
Whether or not you select the Master Text Frame option, you can add text frames to a master page to act as placeholders. You can thread these empty placeholder frames together to establish a flow.
Flow text into master text frames using the same procedures you would use with frames created on document pages.
If you need to type text in a master text frame on a document page, hold down Ctrl+Shift (Windows) or Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you click the text frame on the document page. Then click in the frame using the Type tool and begin typing.
You can use Smart Text Reflow to add or remove pages automatically as you type and edit text. By default, when you type text at the end of a threaded text frame based on a master page, a new page is added, allowing you to continue typing in the new text frame. You can edit Smart Text Reflow settings.
If you change the page margins, text frames adjust to the new margins only if the Enable Layout Adjustment option is selected.
Selecting the Master Text Frame option does not affect whether new pages are added when you autoflow text.

  • Hot do you highlight text in Pages?

I am trying to highlight specific text in Pages, like one word or one line. I found how to highlight the entire paragraph, but I only want to be able to highlight one line or a couple of words at a time. Is there a way to highlight specific text in Pages instead of the entire paragraph? Thanks
    Macbook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    Macbook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Not exactly sure if it's what you want but you could change the text colour by double-clicking the word, opening the colour palette then crayons & selecting the colour required.
Or leave the text black, click on Inspector, click on Graphic Inspector, click shadow & choose colour (e.g red), degrees 350, offset 0%, blur 1pt, opacity 100%. This gives black text with a red background. Adjust these settings to suit.

  • Highlighting Text In Pages 4 and 5: How To/Best Methods?

    Hello Fellow Macers:
I need advice on the best way to highlight text in Pages 4 and 5:
I use and prefer Pages 4.3. Yes, I have Pages 5.2, and I find that using it good for some things (dictating into a document), but not so good for others - highlighting text.
For example, I read tons of documents and like to make notes, comments and especially highlight text according to a color-code scheme that I have used for years.
For those who use Word, this process of highlighting text is pretty straight-forward:
You highlight your text and then simply click your highlight box on the Word toolbar (choose a default color, usually yellow) and you're done. If you need to use another color, just use the pull-down, as seen above. The drawback in Word - no Orange, or sectrum option.
But let's face it - Word as a program is just too much. As someone who has used every word processing program under the sun, I find Pages excellent. It does what I need.
However, I find highlighting text in Pages clumsy. Here's what I need to do to highlight text in Pages 4.3:
Go to your toolbar, and then choose a highlight/background color. It's more labor intensive then Word, above, but you do have the option of more colors.
Then there's this method, where basically you get to simply use yellow as your color:
IMHO both are clumsy methods compared to Word, but have become even more so in Pages 5.2....
Lots of clicks to achieve simple color highlights.
Am I missing something, or is there a simpler way, in either Pages 4 or Pages 5, to achieve the above results???
    Any suggestions appreciated!

    Dear VikingOSX:
As Ed MacMahon once said (before your time?) re Pages 5 Character Fill Color: "You are correct, sir!!"
The gear icon IS where the function that I'm talking about is located. Still, it's annoying.
    Q: Why?
A: Because from a work-flow perspective as someone who is highlighting it makes no sense. We in the Western world read and write from top to bottom, left to right. Making a mark on a doc should follow the same flow.
You should not have to keep looking over to the right side of the doc to find your function. Logically it should be at the top (e.g., toolbar), on the left, or perhaps some contextual pop-up option.
Furthermore, it's more "labor intensive" from this point of view: In Word, once you set the color (which, granted, you may need to change from time to time IF you, like me, use multiple colors as part of your highlighting workflow), you just click the box after highlighting the text - 1 click vs 2, and possibly 3.
The "richer color" part of my comment was just to note that a flaw, in my view, of Word's basic scheme is that:
    1) It lacks an Orange. And we've all used an Orange highlighter at somepoint, right? Or perhaps, you were like me in High School and threw them instead. But you get the point...and
    2) Having a wider pallatte available as an option - which you do in Apple's scheme - is nice. I use color coding/highlighting to make notes and save time. The colors tell me what's important, what's next important, key terms, etc. Also, for example, if I wanted to outline my highlighting notes, the color scheme (which has a heirarchy based on color, right?) allows me to do this quickly because it's already there.
As for the Dictation function working on Pages '09/4.3 - again, you are correct, sir! And that's great to know. I had tried to use it before when the new Pages 5 (hitting fn twice on Pages 4.3) but it didn't activate. I tried it after reading your response and Bingo! It's Alive! So thanks for that tip.
Your keyboard shortcut scheme is an interesting idea, and I may try it as an experiment. My intuition is that it will not work as straight-forwardly as Word's toolbar pull-down will, but I might be wrong. We'll see.
And yes, I do use Pages '09 (4.3) instead of Pages 5 for exactly this reason (see my discussion)
    Great reply! Thanks!

  • How can I insert text in Pages so it flows to the next page?

I try copying a block of text into Pages but it cuts off at the end of the page instead of flowing to the next page. How do I fix this?

You have probably started with a Layout mode template instead of a Word Processing template. See the sidebar in the Template Chooser for which is which.
Alternatively you may have pasted an object (possibly from the Internet), not text into a Word Processing template. Click inside the object and copy the text, then delete the object and try pasting again.

  • When printing to Adobe PDF from Microsoft Publisher, the text on page 2 is not 100% black

    Hi there
I'm using Microsoft Publisher 2013 to print to an Adobe PDF file (I have a trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.)
I sent the PDF to my printing house but they can't print it because the text on page 2 is not 100% black. In Publisher, the text colour on both pages is CMYK 0/0/0/100.
I created a test file in which I copied the text from page 1 onto page 2 so both pages are identical. However, the PDF created from that file, when I click Print Production, Output Preview and de-select Process Black, all the text on page 1 disappears (as expected) but none of the text on page 2 disappears! It seems that Publisher and/or Acrobat is printing the text on page 1 correctly but not page 2. Does anyone know why? Am I doing something wrong?
Here's a link to the two files: Dropbox - ShareAdobeComm
Would much appreciate some help if anybody can please point me in the right direction. Thank you.
(I'm seriously evaluating upgrading from my current 3rd party PDF writer to Adobe.)

Do not use the PDF Maker, but print to the Adobe PDF printer and see if that meets you need. If you need some of the tools of PDF Maker, then turn on only those you need, not them all. Check to be sure that the graphics are indeed being downsampled and possibly go back and reduce the graphics you have in the WORD file so that you are at least not using millions of colors, 256 max. Also consider using straight B&W if color is not needed, or at least gray-scale.
