HT3728 HOW DO I CHANGE THE NAME OF  MY HOME NETWORK ?

I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE THE NAME OF MY NETWORK AS NOT TO DISPLAY MY NAME TO THE PUBLIC. DOING SO WILL THIS NAME CHANGE CAUSE ME TO HAVE ALL THE DEVICES ON MY NETWORK RE-CONFIG?

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
Edit the Wireless Network Name as you wish*
Click Update at the lower right of the window and allow 30 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart
*Ideally, the wireless network name will not exceed 12 characters with no spaces and will avoid any special characters like an apostrophe, asterisk, dollar sign, etc.

How do I change the name of my wireless network without screwing everything up?  Thanks.

OK, thanks for the updated information. Please change your profile when you can.
If you change the network name, keep in mind that any device that connects now will need to connect again to your "new" network.
    On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the upper right corner of the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the screen
Edit/backspace out the current wireless network name and then type in the name that you want to use
A few hints....avoid using blank spaces, and also avoid using any special characters like an apostrophe, asterisk, dollar sign, etc. Keep the name short....no more than 20 characters, fewer would be better and simpler to manage.
Click Update at the lower right of the window and wait a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart with the new settings. You are all set now.

  • Howe how do i change the name of my home folder?

I was completing a form and i noticed that it was commenting in a name that i have never used on this computer. did a little digging and discovered that this name is the name of my "Home" folder. The name is my wife's late husband's name!!!! LoL I have absolutely no idea how that possibly could have become the name of my computer since I have never used that name!!!! Well for some reason I can find absolutely no way to change it. Geez folks, did I somehow stumble in the Microsoft world? I thought Macs were easy! LoL. The name of my computer is correct. Now how do I change the name of my "home" folder, whatever the f**** that is????
    Thanks!

  • Lion 10.7.5 - How do I change the name of my "Home" folder?

I transferred info from another computer (I think using target mode - it's been a while) and I want to change the name of my home folder.  How can I do that?

    from HT1528
How to log in as root
Use these steps for Mac OS X v10.2 or later
If you are logged in, choose Log Out from the Apple menu.
If you are logging in from a list of usernames with pictures, click Other.
In the Name field, type: root
In the Password field, type the password you defined in the steps above.

  • How can I change the name of my home folder?

Just got a new job. Yeah! Taken over former employees' iMac. I made myself Administrator, seem to be the only log in option. But, my home folder is still in the old guys name. How can I change the name on the Home folder without deleting it and loose all the files? CAN'T loose the files?  Help...
    Thanks

Changing the existing home folder name is complicated. I recommend you NOT do that.
Instead, create a new User with exactly the home folder name you want, and copy your files over to that new user. Once a few days have gone by trouble-free, and you are certain you have no issues, you can delete the old home folder.
While on the subject of users, Some users prefer the peace-of-mind of using an "ordinary" user account, rather than an Admin account for daily use. This makes it much harder for anything to "sneak" onto your Mac, as you need to authenticate anything to be installed in system directories.
To do this, create a new Admin user, log into it, and demote your daily-use account to a non-Admin user. When actively installing stuff, the Admin username and password will be requested.

  • How do I change the name of my home directory?

Is it possible to change the name of my home directory once it has been set up?

Your user name and your home directory name are one and the same. I'm not sure whether it is technically impossible for them to be different, but I definitely would not advise that if it isn't. Note that any solution to the problem of changing your username is going to be either hairy and dangerous or incomplete. I would never advise anyone to try it.
Instead, just create a new user with the desired name, migrate your data over to the new user's home folder and delete the old user.

  • HT3728 how do you change the name of the time capsule

I can not figure out how to change the name on my time capsule.  As I am thinking that we will have additional drives in the future I would like to figure out how to give them names that will mean something to us for the purposes of put things in the proper spots.

What OS? What version airport utility?
This is different in different utilities.
In v5 utility it looks like this.. and is far superior IMHO to v6 toyland version.
You can use v5 utility in Lion for which it is downloadable.. and it can be inserted with some simple manipulation into ML.
BTW use proper network names.. short, no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.
Wireless names are on the next page.

  • How can I change the name of my home directory?

When I first set up my Macbook Pro a year ago, I put my first and last name. I didn't like this and later changed the login name to just my first name, but the "home" directory is still listed as my full name on the side panel in Finder windows. How can I change this, it won't let me rename that.

You should have experienced that same effect when you managed to change you login name. How did you change your login name?
I imagine that has something to do with why everything 'disappeared' when you changed the directory name.
It's actually pretty simple to change the login name, and it doesn't affect files at all.
All I did was change the field labeled "user name".

How do I change the names of artists or gendre in the itunes list after importing an album?  Is it posssible to change that information?

Yes. Select one or more tracks (use ctrl or shift clicks to add/remove or extend a selection) then right-click or press CTRL-I to Get Info. Use the different tabs of the dialog to make changes.

  • How can I change the name of item in TableViewController iOS

How can I change the name of item in TableViewController? I want to be able to change the title of an item if I added one. Code:
