Is the phone running iOS 7? If so, then you would need to know the Apple/iCloud ID and password of the previous owner in order to remove the iCloud account from the phone.
If you don't know the ID and password, then you should return the phone for a refund.

How do I remove an old appleid from iPhone. A new one has been updated in destined but when I go to update apps that were installed using old userid still appears. The old I'd is not active and doesn't exist any more so I need to change the id that the apps are associated with.

Indeed. I changed my ID some time ago, and now have to pay the very minor price of signing back in with the apropriate ID to uodate apps bought with that ID. Not a major problem.

I have my moms iPad now ( I do believe that it is the 2 Gen). I have replaced the old Apple ID with the new one. The only problem now is that I am going to test out the iCloud and it keeps bringing the old ID up. It will not let me click it to change it ( its grayed out). The only thing its letting me do is enter the password. I do not want to sync it with my computer and lose all of data on it. Is there another way to remove that old Apple ID?

Do this to set up the device for yourself...
Settings > Messages > iMessage > Off
Settings > FaceTime > Off
Settings > iCloud > Delete Accout (this only unregisters and deletes it off the device)
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings

I updated my software last night and when I came back to the computer its says there was a problem and I need to restore factory settings. How do I get my photos and videos off the phone

I plugged in my phone to update to the latest software. After a while, I went back to the PC and it said there had been a problem and that I needed to restore the factory settings.
I am worried that I will lose all the photos and videos that I have on the phone. How do I get them off.
When I now plug the phone it the screen looks like when you first get it - i.e. itunes logo and asking me to plug in.

If the device has been used as designed, the pics and via taken with the device would have regularly been copied off to a computer.
The first step in the update process via iTunes on the computer is a backup.
Restore the device from the most recent backup.
If data is lost, then it is merely the fault of the user for not backing up the device or saving their data regularly.
Once the device is in recovery mode, the ONLY option is to restore.

Your Apple ID is used for several services through your iPhone. To replace the previous Apple ID you will need to sign out of it in a few different spots and sign in with the current Apple ID (depending on what Apple ID you choose to use for each individual service). The services you may need to sign out of old Apple ID and into new one could include iCloud, Messages, FaceTime, and iTunes & App Stores. You can see what Apple ID is currently signed in and sign out of it in the following areas: Settings > iCloud, Settings > Messages, Settings > FaceTime, and Settings > iTunes & App Store. I just brought my Mac and I'm trying to customize it. I have created a user id and deleted the other one. But I still see on the finder "the persons name's mac" on the top of the box. How do I change it to my name without rebooting?

You can change the computer name in System Preferences > Sharing.
But I would strongly recommend using the software restore discs to completely erase the whole computer and reinstall everything from scratch. Since you acquired the Mac second hand, there's no way of knowing what haxies, security holes, or other junk the previous owner may have left on it.

I am now creating a text box that allows a person to type in an 8 digit phone number according to my country's specifications. If a person types in a single digit, how do I have a validation check to ensure that he has to type in 8 digits? Under Validation Pattern, I typed in 99999999 but the person can still type in a single digit and still pass through! It will only validate when a person types in more than 8 digits.

Again, I use code to check the string against a regular expression. My expressiong validates that a string contains valid US phone pattern. Ex. (999) 999-9999 or (999)999-9999 or 1234567890
