For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Thgen the iPod needs a wifi connection to the internet and yo need another iPod, iPhone or iPad with the FindMyiPhone app. you can also yse any computer too
    Only if:
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
Via USB with any computer with iTunes and an internet connection
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

My iPod touch 4th gen has been fully disabled so that it says 'connect to iTunes'. But when I do that, it says I need to unlock my iPod first, which I can't do because my iPod is disabled. What do I do? Also, I don't want to restore my iPod because I don't have some data backed up. Thanks.

  • IPod touch disabled

My 13 year old son has punched the wrong passcode into his 12 year old sisters iPod touch and it's disabled for 21 million minutes. He thought it funny.
She doesn't sync it v often and since she last synced it the laptop she had her iTunes on died. The iPod has been sat unused for a few months and now she wants it for a holiday. Neenah to unlock it.
I've tried opening it in restore mode under my own i tunes account. I click the restore button in iTunes  and iTunes says it's downloading software and will restore device when finished.
About 24 gigs into the 300 odd gig download I get an error message saying iPods passcode is required to restore it. I'm completely stuck.
I can restore the music from my songs but I cannot get around the passcode issue.
I'd go through apple but the site requires the serial number which I cannot retrieve as I can't get that far.
    Should I bin the iPod!!!

When I did this, I did not need a passcode. This might work for you.
If iTunes still recongnize your iPod, then try to restore your iPod touch from DFU mode.
Put your iPod touch into DFU mode, then iTunes should be able to restore your iPod (I did this with my friend's iPhone).
    Internet connection may be required.
To put your iPod into DFU mode:
    1. Plug your iPod touch into your computer and turn it off.
    2. Then hold down the power button for 3 seconds.
    3. Then without releasing the power button, also hold down the home button for 10 seconds.
    4. Then release the power button, but keep holding the home button down for 15 seconds.
    5. Now you are in DFU mode.
    6. Open iTunes.
    7. Then there should be a pop up window asking you to restore your iPod and click restore. If not then find your iPod like you usually would and click restore.
    8. Then wait until your iPod is done restoring.

My daughter's ipod touch is locked due to too many incorrect password attempts (thanks to her little brother).  It is displaying the red bar that states ipod is disabled connect to itunes.  Problem is we don't have the computer that the ipod was originally synced with and she doesn't want to reset the ipod.  In this instance we know the password.. so is there anyway to get the ipod to ask us one more time to enter the password?  I'm not sure how many incorrect attempts were made, but it doesn't state anything about try again in so many minutes.. help, please!

  • IPod touch disabled, cannot get into recovery mode or unlock to enter passcode.

I've got an 8GB iPod touch that is disabled, cannot be unlocked, and it will not go into recovery mode. When I plug it into iTunes, it says "iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod touch before it can be used with iTunes." At the top is a red banner that says "iPod is disabled connect to iTunes" and it won't let me unlock it to enter a passcode and I've tried the recovery mode where you plug it in when powered off holding the home button, but I guess the iPod isn't updated enough for it to work (doesn't look like the new Apple OS) because when I do that, it just powers on like normal. What do I need to do because I'm definitely at a stopping point. Please help me get this iPod into working condition.

Try Recovery Mode again. Timing is critical so it may not have been done correctly the first time. Detailed instructions at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.
