My ipad says the software is my to date but it is only iOS 5.1.1.  How do I update it to iOS 6?

If you have the first generation, there is no way to update beyond iOS 5.1.1.
Newer iPads can only update to the latest software, iOS 7.0.4.

v10.6 isn't an update, it's an upgrade. You must purchase v10.6 / Snow Leopard.

My ipad2 keeps asking me to update ios.  However, each time i click on the icon in the setup, it says the software is up to date.  My ios is version 5.1.1

Are you certain you have an iPad 2? Does it have cameras?

Most likely, you have an iPhone 3GS not a 4s.  See this to identify your model:

  • Software update say "your software is up to date" but i only have 10.4.1

i just got this computer used and I wanted to get the newest itunes update but it says it needs 10.4.9 or newer.
so i click on the apple software update and it searches for a new update then it says "your software is up to date" but about this mac says i only have 10.4.1 and i want the 10.4.11.
What is wrong??? any help will be appreciated!!!

Hopefully you received the computer's original OS X
software packet with install/restore discs within it.
This, and if the computer had been upgraded to a
newer OS X version than the original installer's,
there should also be that retail installer disc, too.
There may be some system parts missing, and a
previous owner may have tried to use Trash to
get rid of private user accounts. If this happened,
there may be issues in the remaining system.
Can you further describe the exact computer model,
build date, and configuration of processor, RAM,
hard drive, so as to tell what it really is? There are
some that look quite a bit alike, but the insides are
often different enough and may have shipped with
    other hardware and software.
For some comparative information, you could get &
read through a database from http://mactracker.ca
which would show most every Apple computer made
and their specifications, build date, and model nos.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • HT4623 How can I update my original iPad to an iOS higher than 5.1.1? It says my software is up to date, but how can it be if it is still iOS 5?

How can I update my iPad to an operating system higher than 5.1.1? It says software is up to date, but I'd like it to be iOS 7, or at least 6!

The original iPad is incapable of running iOS 6 and newer. Therefore, it's up to date with 5.1.1.

  • "Check For Update" says all software is up to date --- but its not!

I'm attempting to download the software upgrade....but when I follow the steps, the "Check For Update" says "All software is up to date & will check again on 6/19."
Why won't my iPhone realize the software is NOT up to date?

Forgive me; just curious.  Something I don't understand.
Your products listed are 10.6.7 ... and that IS Snow Leopard.  So why do you need to buy it again.
In terms of latest updates ... Go to Systems prefs > Software update > Installed software.   That will tell you what software has already been downloaded.   What your computer is telling you is that all the software relating to your current OS is up to date.

    1. First step to solving the Problem: Trash MacKeeper. It's a pile of trash that does far more harm to your computer than good.

All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory. The 4G only has 256 MB

  • TS1394 my software is up to date but I have only reached the version 10.5.8. .to download other software like the upgrade to lion or Sonos hi-fi system ,10.6 minimum is required . what do I do wrong ?

It seems like I can go further in my updates, each time I check for updates it says I am " up to date '
I would need to download my new version of Sonos hi-fi but a minimum of 10.6 is required. what's going on ?

Hello, you're not doing anything wrong, it's just that 10.5.8 is as far as 10.5 can update.
Next is a paid Upgrade to 10.6.x
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It looks like they do still have it:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
And it's been reported that if you have a MobileMe account Apple will send one free.

  • HT4906 Why won't my iPhoto work it wants to do an update, but the software is up to date...

My new laptop will not open iphoto.  It wants to run an update and the update says the software is up to date... it is a constant loop and I cannot seem to find a download to force the program to open.  Very frustrating for me and this MAC

What version are you running currently? Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the test library runs as expected then your current library is the culprit.
In that case and you're running iPhoto 9 (11) make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I cannot get the updates for ipad to download. when it gets ready to process the file an error message pops up saying the software was unable to download and the network timed out. any suggestions...

i am trying to update the software on my ipad from 4.2 to 4.3.3 but i cannot get it to download. I get an error message that says the software was unable to download because the network timed out.  I have tried to download it 7 or 8 different times and still get the same message.  I cannot restore the factory settings either.  The same thing happens.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  It did this when trying to update to 4.2.  I don't remember how we were able to get the software to update.  Thanks.

Thank you King_Penguin!  It worked beautifully.  I had turned the firewalls off but not the antivirus.  You are great!  I am new to this apple community thing so it looks like I cannot mark your reply as "correct answers", but it was.  Thanks a ton!
