I want to update my ipad ios 5.1.1 to 6.0. My General Settings says, " your software is up to date." How can I make my ipad see the light? My iphone is updated to 6.1.3. Any ideas?

I try to upgrade my wifes IPad to newer OS. I have been tring throught a desktop connected to the Ipad with I tunes. When I click on upgrade OS it says Your Software is up to date'.
How do I upgrade so she can load newer apps?

If you are using iOS 4 (or earlier) there is no Software Update in Settings. That feature was first added in iOS 5.
To update you will have to connect your iPad to iTunes on a computer (preferably the one you sync with and backup to).

Try going to wi-fi then click the blue arrow on your connected network. From there go to DNS. Delete all the numbers and type in 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
When my update first wasn't coming up that worked incase your issue is similar to that.

When I go to my app store the store will load but nothing within the store will load. I haven't updated my Ipad in a long time because the computer died I would use. The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.

You can try these things first and see if they help at all.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit all apps and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

If it's an Intel Mac, you can upgrade it to Mac OS X 10.6.8.

I currently have a 1st generation iPad that is running on iOS 5.1.1. I have been unable to update the operating system. In fact, when I look for updates under the general settings icon nothing comes up. Shouldn't this older iPad be running on iOS 7.0.2 like my new iPad? Also, I have 19 app updates that I can't even access. I'm assuming this is because iOS 5.1.1 is too antiquated, thus not meeting the requirements for the other apps to update.
