HT4972 I can't update my ipad from my PC. It keeps saying "update server could not be contacted". I've checked my connections and everything is fine. What can I do?
Hello. I've tried to update my iPad, but iTunes keep saying that "update server could not be contacted". My iPad does not have the option of wireless software update. Please, help!
Try temporarily disabling your firewall and/or anti-virus software on the computer. You could also try logging out and back in to your itunes/AppleID account.

Everytime I try to update my iPhone this happens: The iPhone cannot be updated because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is teporarily unavailable.
Please try again later.
Can you please tell me how to fix this? Thanks in advance. We're Sorry, Activation Server Temporarily Unavailable, contact Customer Care...Your request Could Not Be Completed?"
99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, you need to get a sim card from the carrier the phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.
Apple has started to get "tough" with hacked iPhones, & simply won't permit their activation. -
I get the following message when I go to "check for updates" on iTunes (I have XP on windows). Error message: "The iTunes update server could not be contacted. Please check your internet connection or try again later".

apple website as an exception.
However, I still get the same error message... can anyone help?

I keep getting this error message: "The itunes update server could not be contacted. Please check your internet connection, or try again later." and can not update my iOS from 4.3.2
I downloaded the Microsoft Autoruns package and ran it. There are no programs in the LSA Providers tab, and Apple's Bonjour is the only program in the Winsock Providers tab. I also did the "netsh winsock reset" and rebooted. It didn't fix the problem. Any more ideas?

this morning i tried to restore my ipod and it said:"the ipod "ipod cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavalible." i have no idea what to do and i need help.
Update Server
Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem -
I have tried to update my iPhone using the iTunes method but it will not work. The message "The iTunes update server could not be contacted. Please check your internet connection or try again later," appears. What do I do? The Internet is working fine.
Have you tried the following troubleshooting document?
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
If you end up using the If the iTunes Store opens successfully section of the document, and the "Automatically detect settings" checkbox is already checked, try unchecking and rechecking it and clicking OK. -
I am trying to updated iTunes on my PC so I can sync my songs onto my iPhone 5, but when I try to update iTunes it says "the iTunes update server could not be contacted. Please check your internet connection or try again later." My internet connection is fine and I've tried mutiple times to update it.
That one can sometimes be produced by LSP trouble:
I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.) -
I'm trying to update iTunes software, but when I go to Help/Check for updates, I continue to get the message: "The iTunes update server could not be contacted. Please check your Internet connection or try again later." Is there another way to update?

Error comes up in iTunes on check for updates "The iTunes update server could not be contacted. Please check your internet connection, or try again later." Currently connected to the internet, on HP Laptop running latest version of Windows 7.
I get the same problem running the diagnostics. Says network connections are present and in the green, but unable to connect to iTunes Store.I downloaded the Microsoft Autoruns package and ran it. There are no programs in the LSA Providers tab, and Apple's Bonjour is the only program in the Winsock Providers tab. I also did the "netsh winsock reset" and rebooted. It didn't fix the problem. Cant update my sons ipad 2 to ios 5. We got it at christmas and have not been able to update it. Keep getting the ipad update server could not be contacted. check your internet connections or try again later. I have tried turning off my firewall and tried at all times of the day or night. Im using windows 7 on my PC.
The only other thing that I can think of to try is to restart everything. Quit iTunes, reboot your PC, restart the iPad and then try again.
Here is an article about troubleshooting iPad updating issues. It could be some other security settings that you have that are blocking the update from proceeding. There are a number of things that are discussed in this support article. Check it out and see if there is anything in it that you can try.

Friends,
My iPad2 was locked and disabled because my kids entered several times the passcode and now it is locked. I tried every possible ways and read all related items and followed precisely articel http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 but after i restored and update teh iPad, itunes keeps giveing me the same message:
The iPad "iPad" cannot be restored at this time because the iPad software update server could not becontacted or is temporarily unavailable.
I tired at different time of teh day and noght and different days yet kept getting the same message.
Pls assist me as now the iPad is useless
Regards,
JoeIf reset doesn't work, try and force the iPad into Recovery Mode.
Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times. -
i cannot seem to upgrade the ipad to ios 5 i keep getting a message after about 15 minutes that says ipad server software could not be contacted make sure your network settings are correct. and network is active or try again later
My 3G service provider told me to power off by holding the top black button down for 5 seconds until you get until you get the red arrow asking you to slide to power off. Leave off for a minute or so and then use the same button to turn back on and it will show a little apple in the middle of the screen. This should reboot your server information and you will not get the error message.

My ipod is the 4.3.5 version. It is driving me nuts! I have tried disabling different softwares, updating Itunes, and restarting my computer over and over. It says server cannot be contacted yet everytime I open iTunes, it pops up at least twice saying to update.
Let's try the following document with that one.
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
(If the "Automatically detect settings" checkbox is already checked, try unchecking and rechecking it and clicking OK.)
