There is no way to clear the update notifications - unless you delete the apps completely from the iPad and from iTunes on your computer.
Obviously you want to continue to use the apps, so you either have to update the iPad and get the newer versions - or just ignore the update notifications. They will not go away.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Apps are only tied to one account... You can set up two iTunes accounts on your computer, however, and let his iPad sync to his account. If he has never backed up his apps to a computer, however, he will have to redownload all the apps. Afterwards, he can backup to iCloud instead of your computer.

I am not computer savvy. I have a second generation itouch and have never had any problems with it until now. When I try to play certain songs, it will not play the song and skip to the next song selection. When I try to play certain videos, the message "This movie could not be played" appears. I contacted a tech spec who said it was possibly a format problem. How do i fix this?
This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

You should be able to download a compatible version. If the iBooks app isn't already in your purchase history thet download the current version on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in it. Then on your iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and see if you can download an older compatible version of it

I have a first generation Ipad and am currently running software version 5.1.1 I have tried to update it to a newer version both wirelessly and thru Itunes but have been unsuccessful. Am I stuck with the older version or is there another way?? When I do run the update, it gives me the "you have the current software" message.

I have a second generation shuffle and even though (after charging) the green battery light is on it soon turns orange and red. Is there a problem with the battery and if so is it fixable?
If it's a 2nd gen shuffle, it is probably about six years old at this point. The cause is likely to be a worn out battery that is no longer able to hold its charge for very long.

But it is very small, so you need to be good at doing such things. The cost to have a repair shop do the work is likely to be uneconomical, compared to the cost of a brand new 4th gen shuffle ($50), which has more features (and possibly double the storage) plus a one-year warranty. -

Wel your "answer" provides not only a bad comparison, but is disingenuous at its heart!
Apple sold a product (8GB iPod Touch) that one could have assumed to be 3rd generation at the time of purchase (because that was what all the other models of iPod Touch were at the time). Then when ios 4.3 came out, we who purchased one of these units found out that the 8GB Touch was really a 2nd generation model, and it would not ever be updated beyond ios 4.2.1 (8C148). Since the version (4.2.1) is BUGGY, it would be in the best interest of Apple to at least provide a bug-fix update release for these units. It is not like we are asking for all the new features of ios 4.3, just fix the BUGS, please, Apple! -
I have icloud on my Ipad and today it says icloud backup this ipad hasn't been backed up in weeks.Backups happen when this ipad is plugged in,locked, and connected to WiFi. Then OK, well, it will not let me OK it and or get on any of my icons. Like it is frozen. Nothing is on my screen (no icons) and it won't let me unlock it. I upgraded to an iPad2 and recently pulled out my old iPad 1 to re-gift to a family member. I can't remember the password I originally set up - is there a way to get beyond this? You can restore the device. That is what you have to do if you forget the passcode. You don't have to worry about syncing to your own computer either since you don't want to restore your data - you want to wipe it clean. Read these articles for more instructions

Sometimes you may not be able to bypass the passcode at all when you try to restore. You may need to restore by putting the iPad into recovery mode. I have heard from some users that they did not have to do this when they restore after forgetting the passcode - but just in case you need the information, this will help you with that procedure.

I have a ton of documents and databases in AppleWorks v 6.0 that I can no longer open on my MacBook Pro. Is there any way to recover this info? Some documents can be opened and resaved with textedit, but not my database with all important addresses.
I tried Peggy's List > Select All > Copy > Paste into an AW spreadsheet suggestion.
In my case, pasting into the spreadsheet lost all text formatting (mostly text set to bold). The results of formulas were pasted, and checkboxes were pasted as "on" or "off". The DB did not contain any pop-up menus or radio buttons, but I expect they would transfer as a number showing the list position of the chosen item.
Pasting the copied List view data into a Numbers table gave a result similar to that with AppleWorks. I selected B2 as the target cell (for top left cell of the pasted data) to avoid any effects of posting into a header row or column. Bold and regular text formatting looked the same as it had in AW's List view.
Based on that, I'd slip the 'paste into an AppleWorks Spreadsheet step, and paste directly into a Numbers Table.

Select the Inbox folder to see emails.
click on first email to get focus.
Hold down 'Ctrl' key and press 'A' key
This will highlight /select all emails.
they will appear as conversations in the Message Pane
Clickon Delete.
when it has finished - you do have a lot of emails :)
Right click on Inbox and select 'compact' - this removes all marked as deleted emails. -

Make a playlist of the items you want to burn, put a blank cd in the drive and burn the playlist to it.
