That is only present if you have already updated to iOS 5 or later.  If you're on iOS 4 you can only update while connected to your computer's iTunes.

You can't access iCloud from your iPhone unless you're on iOS 5 or later.  Otherwise, refer to this article:

  • I'm trying to turn off the "Handoff" feature. When I go to "settings and then general" I do not have the option to turn off "Hand Off".  Help Please

Can't seem to make this work.  I am up to date with my updates on both I-Phone and I-Pad.  The "Hand-off" feature is working, and I don't want it.  How do I turn it off?  I don't have the option to do that when I go to General & Settings.  Is it located somewhere else?  Apple says that is where it is.  What am I doing wrong,  The "wonderful feature" is driving me crazy.  Surely it is others also...

When we go to Settings>General, we do not have an option for Software Update...only About and Usage.  How do we update the system on our iPad?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.

I have an iPad2 and in settings I don't have the tab for software updates, how can I get it?

Your purchases are tied to your Apple ID. If you bought all of the books with the old ID then AFAIK you will have to continue to use that ID in order to continue to sync those books to the iPad.
You have to update the app with the old ID so I don't see how you could keep the books with the new ID. Maybe I am wrong about this, but someone else will chime in I'm sure and correct me if I am wrong.

Often when I do a search and then click on the link I am redirected to a fake or phishing website. How can I stop this? Thank you!

Usually you would get to a phishing site directly by mistyping, or from the search itself.
You can avoid a lot of phishing sites with the following:
    '''Tools > Options > Security'''<br>
''Known attack sites can be blocked here, uses information reported to Firefox and to Google.''<br>
[x] Warn me when sites try to install add-ons<br>
    [x] Block reported attack sites<br>
    [x] Block reported web forgeries
Having a good '''hosts''' file on your system can protect your entire system cross-application and all browsers and all your Firefox profiles against a lot malware. The '''hosts''' file must coded for www.example.com, example.com, anything.example.com -- '''Adblock Plus''' is more generic and can do more with less coding. See links below.

  • HT4623 i went on to my settings and then general but they isn't a software update? what do i do?

i went on to my settings and the general but they wasn't/isn't a software update?

Likely you are still running iOS 4 - the over the air update feature only appeared with iOS 5.  To update from iOS 4 you will need to connect to iTunes via the cable and update from iTunes on your computer.

  • I don't have the option for updating software in my IPAD!!! How can I download IOS7?

When I go to General, in settings, and then go to software update, I don't see the option of update software, it only says "learn more ' about ios7?????

Well, finally I fixed my problem and was able to download IOS7 on my IPAD.the problem was because there was not enough space on my IPad local storage, so I had to free some space by deleting pics and movies. Now it's working fine, but I learnt that I can have an Iflash drive or a wifi external hard disc to put all my files on and relive my local storage.

  • HT5858 I have had difficulty launching sites from within my email messages.  So, in trying to revert to the default settings on my iPad I went into "Settings" and reset everything.  Now, I have a black screen with a white apple and a white line!  What do

For the last severl weeks I have had difficulty launching sites from within my email messages.  Thinking that I may have gone into "Settings" and set something wrong, I decided to reset to the default settings.  So, in "Settings" I chose reset everything.  Now, when I turn my iPad on all I get is a black screen with the picture of a white apple and a white line below it.  Nothing else works.  What can I do?  Do I need to send this back to Apple to be restored?

You will hopefully be able to restore it yourself. It sounds like you erased all constant and settings rather than resetting all settings. But I'm basing my theory on the fact that you are seeing the Apple logo with the white progress bar (the white line) on the screen. That's what you would see if the software was being reinstalled and then it stopped on you. If that is what happened, you need to restore again and most likely need to use recovery mode.
You can read about recovery mode here.
    Recovery mode - Apple
However ...... If you are seeing the white line when you turn the iPad, let it go for twenty minutes or so, before you try restoring again. There is possibility that the software is still be installed and it can take a while before you see that white line move at all indicating that progress is being made.
Frankly, I don't think that the software is still being installed, but since you didn't say specifically how long the iPad has been like this, it could just be that the software hasn't finished installing yet. If you know better - meaning that it's been like this for hours or longer, then you do need to restore the device.
