I still have money left on my iTunes gift card, but not enough for a purchase. So I was wondering if I add a credit card to my account, when I make a purchase will it use the rest of the money from my gift card and then charge from my credit card, or would it merely cancel out the gift card and replace it with my credit card?

Yes, it will, unless you make a purchase which can't be done with a gift card, in which case the balance will remain and the entire purchase be charged to the credit card.

I think I've done this in the past. Theres no technical reason why you can't do this as far as I know.
I can't remember if I used different ports or same port.

web application to enable both Windows Based Authentication/Negotiate
(Kerberos) and enable Forms Based Authentication or does the web application

Yes , you can use dual authentication on same web application. You can use same web application , at OOB login page you will have option to use windows or form login.
Or you can extend your web application to a new web app and configure extended web application to use Form Based Authentication(Note extended web application will also show same content database , so the content will same only url will be different)

I believe if you haven't already setup an itunes account, if you have access to computer with iTunes installed , you can create an iTunes account on that computer with no credit/debit card and then just buy iTunes cards at your local retailer to get credits.

Gifts will be charged to your credit card - you can't use your acocunt's balance for gifting, you can only use your credit card.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

You got it with that same apple id thing. You can use different apple id's, but then they will not sync. Apple does allow as many free apple id's as you want, but they are in the business to make money.

What process did your daughter use, there is a specific format to redeem an iTunes gift card. The gift card must be redeemed using the Redeem link in the Quick Links on the right side of the iTunes Store in iTunes on a computer or the Redeem button at the bottom of both the iTunes and App Store apps in iOS. Redeeming the gift card then applies the value of the card as an available credit to the user's iTunes account. The credit is used first before any bank card also stored in the account. The troubling thing to me is the fact that the charger gets extremely hot - according to what you are saying. The charger can get warm and can get fairly warm when the iPad is charging, but it should never get extremely hot. Make an appointment at an Apple Store, take the iPad, the cable and the charger with you and ask them to look at everything for you.
