HT5037 iPhoto eternal loop.

When I open iPhoto, it says my Library needs to be prepared using iPhoto Library Upgrader. When I then go into iPhoto Library Upgrader, it says my photos have been edited using a newer version of iPhoto, and that I need to quit iPhoto Library Upgrader and use iPhoto. I can't get into access any of my photos - this is so frustrating!!! When the error messages come up, the ONLY option I have is to quit.
Can someone please explain to me how to get around this eternal loop I seem to be stuck in?

Katherine, have you currently upgraded iPhoto to a newer version? Or restored an older iPhoto Library?
We need to know more, to be able to help:
What exactly happened or did you do, before you could no longer open your iPhoto library?
How has your iPhoto library been created? By what version of iPhoto?
And what is your current version of the iPhoto application?
The only thingI can tell from your post is that you have a mismatch between the versions of iPhoto and of your library. That can have several reasons - a recent update of iPhoto, or duplicate iPhoto applications, duplicate iPhoto libraries.

  • IPod nano 3G goes into eternal loop with firmware 1.0.2 - fixed with 1.0.3?

After automatically upgrading to firmware 1.0.2, my iPod nano would enter an eternal loop (apple logo appears/disappears/appears/... until battery is empty) when ejecting from iTunes. The only way of resurrecting it was entering disk mode manually, then connecting & restoring original settings through iTunes. However, then the same problem was seen again when ejecting. I replaced the iPod twice, but both (brand new) devices showed exactly the same problem, right out of the box. I re-installed iTunes as well, no effect. Finally I asked (and got) my money back and returned the iPod. Has anyone else seen the same problem and does anyone know whether firmware update 1.0.3 has fixed the issue? I may then consider to buy another iPod...

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried this with the last iPod I received, which already showed firmware 1.0.2 when connecting it to iTunes (i.e. without upgrading) and the described problem. I followed instructions for replacing the two files indicated with the 1.0.1 ones downloaded from the web, but iTunes still claimed to have firmware 1.0.2 on the iPod and the problems remained. Though Apple documentation claims that there is an option to set back the firmware to an earlier version, this option does not seem to exist in the Windows version, I only had the option to search for an upgrade or leave things as they are, so I was stuck with 1.0.2

  • My email gets bounced into an eternal loop in the outbox and says that my iCloud and me account are not recognized by the server? I've tried setting up another account and it says that I already have them set up, and it is stil only sending 1 or 2 message

My messages get lost in an eternal loop in my out box and it says that my iCloud me accounts are not recognized by the server. I can send 1 or 2 out of 10.
We tried adding a new account and that didn't work. We then deleted the account and started again. Still didn't work. Extremely frustrated!

There also seems to be something wrong with the time!!! My posting says 5:30ish but it was 8:30ish?

  • Eternal loop with triggers

We are using triggers to replicate changes between two databases, however we want to avoid the situation where there is an eternal loop -
    For example,
Update to database A fires trigger
    Database B is updated
Update to database B fires trigger
    Database A is updated
What is the best way to avoid this situation? Can the triggers be set up so they only fire on certain userids? Should the trigger check the userid? etc.
    Thanks

You put some condition on making the processing work there. After all, you need to do something with that data, and all the behaviour of triggers is related to this - I'm talking about the intelligence you code there.
It's a little harder when you make some data modifications that require self-modifications, but it can be done without problems.
If you need me to be more specific, give me a loose model of your processing there.

  • I'm in iphoto loop with Facebook that says there's a problem with IPhoto uploader. Try again later"  It's an eternal loop and no matter what it puts me back to Setup to publish IPHOTO every time and then will not publish.

I'm in an Iphoto loop with iPhoto uploader error and Facebook.  I cannot post to Facebook as it sends me back to setup again and then says there is an error with iPhoto uploader.  "Try again later"  This has been going on since I joined Facebook.  Cannot figure out what to do

have you tried posting this question in the iPhoto forum? https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto

  • HT5037 iPhoto Library Upgrader Not Working Properly

I followed the instructions, but when i clicked 'continue' in the Library Upgrader to upgrade my older iPhoto library, the original message about how my iPhoto library needs to be upgraded popped up

What version of iPhot do you ave hat is gving you this message?
    You say
am trying to upgrade the iPhoto library to transfer it to my new MacBook Air.
Instead move the libray to the MBA and  upgrade it there using the version of iPhotot that is there  - you can not upgrade it on the old system with the old version of iPhoto
And the library upgrader does not upgrade the library - it modifies version 7 and earlier libraries so that the new version of iPhoto can upgrade them successfully
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • HT5037 iPhoto Help!

I try to click on iPhoto and it says, "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared". I then follow the instructions to downlad the softwear  and it still doesn't recognize it.  I cannot even access any of my photos. Any help???

go to your applications folder ==> utilities and launch the iPhoto library upgrader - then launch iPhoto and it will finish the upgrade

  • HT5037 iPhoto issue

Hello. I have a new 13 Mac Book Pro with Retina display. I'm having trouble using iPhoto on my new Mac Book Pro. Every time I try to open the app it says my library needs to be prepared. I've downloaded the library upgraded tool and let it run. It says it upgraded my pics but I still can't use iPhoto.

That's what it was. I'm so used to things like this automatically starting I forgot to check there. Thanks.

  • IPhoto reinstall loop..

Day before yesterday, I got caught up in the Thunderbolt Update 1.2 problem. It seems we're not quite through that yet... I restored by reinstalling OS X 10.7.4 Combo Updater. Now iPhoto won't come up. I've tried deep-sixing the application and re-installing from the iLife 2011 CD/DVD. It seems to go out and grab 9.3 which I'm sure wasn't on the original media. When I try to launch iPhoto it says, "In order to open iPhoto.app, you need to update to the latest version. Please run Software Update to install it now." When I click on Software Update and run it, it seems the computer thinks everything is current. So it doesn't appear that there's a ready-solution to this. I have backed up my iPhoto library...now, how to get the application working again...?

Sounds like a damage/corrupted library.  So make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • HT5037 iphoto won't open: worried have lost thousands of photos:(

I was trying to organize some photos in iphoto and when I attempted to cut and paste 160 or so photos, it lost them. I went to my back-up service to try to download them. Didn't really know what I was doing. Now when I try to open iphoto it says, "To open your library with this version of iphoto it first needs to be prepared". THen when i click more info, it ways "use upgrader" which I then downloaded and opened. Then when I went to open iphoto it says something like, you don't need to use upgrader, you have latest version... Then when I try to open it again it goes back to original message. I'm going round in circles. I'm worried I have lost thousands of photos. I still have my icloud back up but where did they go and how do I get them back. I am really panicked!!!

. What cloud service would you suggest
As far as anyone here knows no cloud service is adaquate to backup the iPhoto library
It does backup your files - the issue is that the iPhoto library is a very complex database strcture that must be stored on a volume formatted Mac OS extended (jpournaled) - when it is not (like on all known cloud backups) the reults are unpredictible (not a good thing for a backup) - and then you have the size issue - iPhoto libraries tend to be very large and for that reason alone a cloud service is not a good solution since it may take days or weeks to restore the library even if it is is successful
Based on my limited experiance JustCloud does have a good backup of your photos but not of your library and if you had to use it you woul dstart over from scratch importing your unedited, unmodified photos - for me that is not an acceptable backup
If I have the Time Machine backup do I need cloud service?
The money is better spent on a local external hard drive - a 3 TB TimeCapsule is about $400 - so that is a couple of years of cloud backup - I run TM to one EHD and a daily bootable clone using Carbon Copy Cleaner to a second EHD
As to what is backedup - if you are backing up your iPhoto library everything is backedup - it is a complete package containing everything
What are the names of your iPhoto libraries?  What version of iPhoto do you have?  Will the one you restored form you backup work?

  • HT5037 IPhoto I am being advised that I need To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared.

To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared.
I am receiving this message: To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared.
But when I try to prepare as by instructions, I am told that my existing version doesn't require to be prepared?
    Any help please!

Given that you present nothing except a problem with no contexno one can possbly anser
What version of iPhoto do you have? You state that you have OS X 10.8.5 in your profile - is that correct? What are the instructions that you are following that do not work?

  • HT5037 iPhoto Updater not updating

OK, so after migrating my apps & files from my old G5 to my brand new Mac Mini (OS 10.8.2), iPhoto won't recognize my old files and says I need the updater. So I get the updater, install it, and iPhoto still won't recognize my old files, again tells me I need the updater. I mean, I never used iPhoto before, always Photoshop except for one time I needed to quickly print a 4x6 and used iPhoto; of course, my brother-in-law now wants more copies and I can't get the new iPhoto to open (updater!) and I can't find the file on my HDs. ???

You have to run the updater, not just install it. So, Applications/Utilities and double click on it...

  • HT5037 iPhoto quits unexpectedly

iPhot quits unexpectedly, I 'reopen' and it quits, again and again. Do I have too many photos in there? How do I acess it to use it if it quits constantly? I restarted my iMac, but it made no difference.

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists.
If you can create and operate a new library then the problem lies with your current library.  if that's the case make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If you can't create or open and run a new library try the following:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • HT5037 iPhoto Library Upgrade Issues

I recently purchased a new iMac that came with iPhoto 9.3.1 installed. I migrated files from an older Mac to my iMac. When I try to open iPhoto I got a message the I needed to install an iPhoto Library Upgrade. I found the upgrade and installed it. I still received the same message. I discovered an iPhoto update to 9.3.2 in the Mac App Store and installed it hoping that it would fix the problem. No such luck. I still receive the iPhoto library upgrade notice. So I downloaded and installed the library upgrade again. Still no luck. In the end, I removed my iPhoto libraries from the Pictures directory and iPhoto started right up. All of my photos are still in tact, only the libraries I organized them into are lost. If you are not able to revert back to an older version of iPhoto, which I am not able to do, this appears to be the only way to fix this problem. Fortunately, I did not have many libraryies set up in iPhoto.
I hope this is helpful to some of you who are in the same boat.

Backup your iPhoto library, depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild the library
