I want to open some old iphoto libraries. The new iphoto says I have to upgrade the library, so I downloaded the upgrader and ran it on the library I wanted to upgrade and still it would not open, just kept giving me the same error message about needing to upgrade the library!! How can I open that old library file?
Did you go to Applications/Utilities and find the upgrader app and then double click it?

I have a mac book pro. Yesterday the mail app failed to open. I have tried to open it from the dock and the application folder but nothing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions to get it to work?
You don't need iDVD unless you are going to make DVDs. If you are just trying to share files, iDVD won't help you at all.
What you want to do is in iMovie, choose File/Share/File, and export that way. It creates an .mp4 file that should be readable on Macs or Windows.
You could also File/Share/YouTube if you don't mind posting them to YouTube, because of course YouTube videos are watchable by any Mac or Windows computer made in the last 10 years. -
I have airport extreme and just purchased a D-Link DCS-932L home network camera. D-Link says I need UpNp but the extreme doesn't support this. Can I use port mapping? if so anyone know how to set that up? thanks
Since the D-Link DCS-932L is accessible on the local network via a web browser, you should be able to access this camera from the Internet if your router has a publically accessible Public IP address. If your ISP provides you with a dynamic Public IP address, you may want to use a DDNS service to make it easier for you to locate your camera whenever your ISP changes your IP address.
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).
Select Manual Setup.
Verify that Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address is selected on the Internet > Internet Connection tab.
Select Advanced, and then, select the Port Mapping tab.
Click the plus sign to add a new port mapping.
For Service, leave the default; this will change to "Custom" once you start entering port values.
In the Public UDP Port(s) and Public TCP Port(s) boxes, type in a 4-digit port number (e.g., 8888) that you choose. In the Private IP Address box, type the internal IP address of your camera. In the Private UDP Port(s) and Private TCP Port(s) boxes, enter the appropriate port values that should have been provided to you by the camera manufacturer. Click Continue.
In the Description box, type a descriptive name like "Internet Camera Access," and then, click Done.
Click on Update.
To connect to the shared Camera from a remote location using a Mac or PC:
Start your favorite web browser.
Enter either your Public IP address or DDNS-provided Domain Name, followed by a colon and the Public port number that you choose in step 7 of the previous procedure. For example: http://123.123.123.123:8888 or http://www.mydtdnsdomainname.com:8888 -

I have a new laptop and I am trying to download CS3. The site on adobe gives an error message and the one I tried from this forum downloaded CS3 extended, so my serial number does not work. When trying to facetime a contact (which worked prior to update) it says that person is 'unavailable for facetime'. Some contacts work and some don't. Facetime is enabled in settings.
Also can message some people but not others - not necessarily the same people that can't be facetimed.
Anyone experienced similar or got any ideas?

Trackpad doesn't work for 5 seconds after any USB device is connected
This is really irritating. I could plug in any USB device - a hard drive or iPhone, and the trackpad will not work for about seconds of trying to get the pointer to move around the screen. Normally there's nothing connected to the Mac, so when something is plugged in, even if I just plug something in and walk away from it and come back some time later, if I try to move the trackpad, nothing will happen for about 5 seconds after trying to move the mouse pointer. Very strange.
Any idea what's going on?Seems like a strange problem. You could try putting dbus earlier in the list, second after syslog-ng is where I used to have it. Moving to systemd might fix it too.

I used to be able to put a sticky note on my .pdf documents after I scanned them for information purposes. Since I had the mess up with Acrobat reader and my Adobe x program, the sticky notes appear very very small and not very useful. Has anyone else had the same issue?
Yes we are still using Acrobat X on our system. We use Windows 7 professional. I needed to change the Default program for any pdf files to open with Acrobat (after the Reader mess) - however, now our Windows fax and scan cannot send pdf files anymore - that was not a problem before the installation & removal of Reader. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue...we are not in a position to upgrade the Acrobat right now. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Starting an hour ago, the Mac App Store says I need to download Lion 10.7.4 again. Anyone else?
I am currently running Mac OS 10.6.8 with all updates on a Mac Mini (3,1--the model with 5 USB ports). Previously, I purchased, downloaded, but did NOT install Lion 10.7.3. Yesterday, I successfully downloaded 10.7.4 via the Mac App Store, but as before I didn't install it (planning to do that this evening). However, starting about an hour ago, the Mac App Store indicates that Lion has been updated and that I should download 10.7.4 -- again, apparently. I'm using the same AppleID account (the only one I have). Anyone else have the same experience? Is there a 10.7.4 version 1.1? If so, nothing in the software description mentions it...
This answer sidesteps my question. I'm aware that I could have upgraded from 10.6.8 to my previously downloaded 10.7.3 and then updated to 10.7.4 using the smaller updaters (I would favor using the Combo). But since the 10.7.3 FileVault security issue directly applied to me, I wanted to upgrade straight to 10.7.4, where it was addressed. Also, since my internet connection is quite fast, taking 15 minutes to redownload all of it again was not a deal-breaker for me. Interestingly, the instance of 10.7.4 I downloaded last night is 25 bytes longer than the 10.7.4 I downloaded the day before. Performing a 'diff -ra' within 'Terminal' between the two instances of the 10.7.4 Installer app revealed that the changes are confined to a single file within: 'Install Mac OS X Lion.app/Contents/_MASReceipt/receipt', and that they look like timestamp differences, so I'm now guessing that the two instances are functionally identical...

My hard drive decided to quit after only 22 months! Some files were backed up but my current photo albums were not. That's all I really need, I don't care about all the other junk. I've tried booting from the Disk Warrior cd, which Apple Genuis Bar suggested since they don't do data recovery. Fortunately, I got the cd from my brother or I would've paid $99 and it didn't help at all.
So it there another way I can do this myself or should I just bring it to Fry's for $149?
Another question would be, after I recover the files, I'd like to upgrade my MacBook Pro 13 to a Solid State drive. I know I need a 2.5" SATA, but which brand/size is good for a $200-$300 budget?

They have the best guarantee around since they can refund $115 of $149 if they couldn't retrieve any data. This was better than other services of $125/hr whether they could or could not get any data recovered. I didn't want to spend $99 and DataRescue couldn't even run.
I meant Disk Warrior was recommended by Apple Genius Bar to access my hard drive that crashed. They said it could "fix" it or at least power up so I can then retrieve my data. It couldn't find the hard drive. It just looped for 5-10minutes, which stated that if this was the case, the hard drive could not be "fixed" or accessed..replacement is needed.
Now I'm in the market for hard drive or solid state hd. -

My dvd doesn't work after installation of Mavericks, any suggestions?
After installing Mavericks 10.9.2 my DVD quit working. It will load try to read and then eject.

Have a Zimbra server at work for my work emails which I also use to recieve my emails on my Iphone. I have been trying to set up for email for our Zimbra server at work on my new Mac Mini's mail. I have server address, User Name, Password, and have tried all the various ways to set it up. On my Iphone 4 it is set up in the mail config as an exchange. I tried to copy the settings my iphone uses and imput them into the mail setup. Every time I have tried POP, IMAP, Exchange I get a message that it cannot connect to the server and I should check my connection to the internet. I kinda had a similar problem setting it up on my Iphone initially. I am starting to think that Apple is lacking when it comes to its native mail app. It has no problem registering my google email but for some unknown reason it wont take my work email through exchange. Really Scratching my head, any ideas?? Thanks again for taking the time to read.
I have yet to find an email server that does not work with Mail.app. Your solution will be to configure its ports and send/receive protocol according to the email server's requirements.
