HT5262 I am trying to backup my iPhone 4 but iTunes says it is unable to complete backup because the device has been disconnected (but it hasn't). Any suggestions?
I cannot backup my iPhone 4 to iTunes because it says the device has been disconnected during "Step 5" (syncing purchases) but my phone is still connected. iTunes is up to date, I don't want to install iOS 6.0.1 until I backup my phone (when I installed iOS 6, I lost everything and had to restore to previous backup. Would hate to not have a more current backup and lose everything again). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and still the same problem. Please help!
You have to delete the corrupt back-up so iTunes can at least back-up the current data on the iPhone and then restore it. Search these forums, there a several good posts on how to delete the corrupt back-up.

If you do not remember your old id's password, go to iforgot.apple.com and see if you can remember or reinstate it. Without it you cannot reactivate your iPhone.

It's hard to tell what password you are referring to. But my guess is you are being asked for the password to the iPhone's backup you created in iTunes. It sounds like you chose to encrypt the backup.
If that is the case, the following applies:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

I'm running OS 10.6.8 on an imac from around 2011. I back up with Time Machine to an external hard drive that has about 500 GB. Until now, I've had no problemsm, or at least that's what I thought. But today I'm getting a message every hour saying "Time machine is unable to back up because the disk is full." It IS full, but Time Machine is supposed to delete the oldest backups when that happens, and keep deleting them in order.
Anyway, when I opened up my backup disk I discovered backups from February and most of March, nothing in April and nothing in May.
I'm a little freaked.
Does anybody know why that would happen and what to do about it?

Trying to back up iPhone because phone has a shattered screen. But it is requiring a passcode before I can back it up and the passcode has to be entered on the phone itself, which is impossible due to shattered screen. Any suggestions on a way to get around this?
If you never synced with iTunes since setting the passcode on it, you won't be able to back up to your computer without entering the passcode first. You can't get around this. This requirement is for your own safety, as it keeps someone who steals you phone from being able to back up your data to their computer without knowing your passcode.

My system preferences no longer works. I click on it and nothing happens. This means I can't change my background picture or do anything else related to it. So I'v been planning on backing up all my info and then downloading again all of my programs. I don't even know if that will work, but the main problem is I can't get my timemachine preferences to open to allow me to turn on the side bar to select my timecapsule as the disk to backup everything. Any Suggestions?
Use a different utility to do the backup.. you don't need to use TM exclusively.. and you should backup just the personal files.. as whatever is broken in the install you don't want back again anyway. Superduper is free to download and use to do a full backup. But verify the disk first as it sounds like something is bad.

The issues seem intermittent. The delay in silencing seems to have stopped and the clicking sound comes and goes, but it still power up on its own after shutdown :( -
when i tried to update my phone it told me it was in recovery mode and needed to restart the whole iphone also saying that everything in my iphone would be deleted how can i prevent all my stuff from being erased permanetly ???
If you are in recovery mode, it is already gone. If you have a recent backup, you can reload it after you restore your phone.

I am trying to download the new software for my Iphone the 6.01 iso for some reason it's not working and it's been like this for over 2 months now. it say's that it downloadable but it's not allowing me to do so.
Make sure you have the lattest iTunes installed > hold the power down and the home buttom on your phone at the same time till your phone turns off > turn it back on > plug into your computer > try to redownload and update your phone.
See if that helps.
P.S Holding down your power button and home just soft resets your phone. -

I banged my head on the wall with the same problem for two days. Tried everything mentioned, and this worked, finally. The problem is that the backup files are not where you think they are.
You need to delete the MobilSync backup folder. I have a Mac. Went to /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and deleted the Backup folder.
Fixed the problem. Give it a try and good luck!
