HTML Content in Cocoa apps

few days ago I noticed that certain apps are displaying raw HTML instead of formatted content. Specifically, Skype during a chat session I cannot read what the messages I'm receiving are. I see lots of div tags and other stuff.
also another app, MacGourmet seems to be behaving the same way.
Any idea what I've done to cause this? is there a way to clean-up reset safari and the rendering engine used by these apps?
my config is as follows:

Hi,
I remember to trying this also by myself, and as far as I remember I didn't manage to get it working. In my case I wasn't even working with third party solution, but with "normal" SAP workflow tasks. This doesn't mean that it wouldn't be possible.
As a workaround, you could add an additional button (=action) for your task. By pressing the button a new browser window would open. Just take a look to the UWL DTD and actions + UrlLauncher handler.

  • Best practice for sharing html content on different group spaces?

    How can html content be shared between several group spaces?
    One way I have found is to add a html doc to ucm and then to add this doc as a iframe to a page.
    Are there other ways, like adding on one group space page a html layout element and then to view this content in a different space. How could this be done, with an expression language reference?
    Has someone experience in presenting the same html content on different spaces and can share how he does it. Any ideas are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Max

    Hey Max,
    Check out our technical whitepaper on Integrating ECM with Portal Technologies.
    Our "Fishbowl Portlets" allow you to share any content - HTML, WYSIWYG user generated content, documents etc - in multiple contexts (portlets, web apps, etc).
    This is one of the things that we showcased as the recent Collaborate conference in Vegas - WebCenter framework, UCM and the portlets surfacing the same items in different contexts - all personalization aware, configurable and end user/super user editable.

  • Invalid element 'welcome-file-list' in content of 'web-app',

    HI, folks.
    I recently used struts to develop a simple web applicaiton, and whenever I tried to use tag libs
    such as /WEB-INF/struts-html.tld
    /WEB-INF/struts-html.tld and
    tried to compile it, it gives out compile error such as:
    Error(52,21): Invalid element 'welcome-file-list' in content of 'web-app', expected elements '[taglib, resource-env-ref, resource-ref, security-constraint, login-config, security-role, env-entry, ejb-ref, ejb-local-ref]'.
    if I remove the above tag libs, the jsp file compiles
    without any problem.
    Are you guys familiar with these problems?
    please let me know if I'm doing anything foolish.
    Thanks!

    Unless some other elements tag are not close correctly this error does not make sense. Can you cut and paste your web.xml?
    It should look something like:

    I don't think you are allowed to mix the servlet mapping entries in among the servlet entries. You should do all the servlet entries and then all the servlet mapping entries.

  • Setting html content with setContent() does never show images

    I've an application set sets dynamically generated html-content in a webview node by using the webengine.setContent() method. This generated html content uses image-tags.
    Here's the problem: the image is not displayed. I tried all variations (absolute url like "http://localhost/c:/test.png" or "file://c:/test.png", relative urls like "test.png" with png in jar-file).
    Anyone out there who has a workaround for me? I appreciate any comment.

    one non-working apple <img src="apple.png"> You loaded the page content with loadcontent, then inside the page content provided a relative url. This is likely an error.
    The question is, what is this url relative to?
    The answer is either likely undefined as no protocol was used to load the page content and so it can't be determined how to load the relative url resource.
    and two non-working peaches <img src="http://localhost/c:/peaches.png">
    You attempted to load content using the http protocol server on the localhost, but you have no such server on the host, so this cannot work.
    and a working remote image url <img src="http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/javafx/images/javafx-documentation.png">
    This works because you fully specified how to load the content by providing the protocol and valid resource reference.
    OK, so the question remains how do you images from the local drive?
    There are three options for this in the following code.
    package org.jewelsea.examples.webviewlocal;
    import javafx.application.Application;
    import javafx.beans.value.*;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.layout.FlowPane;
    import javafx.scene.web.WebView;
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    /** Example of a webview loading resources from the file system. */
    public class WebViewLocal extends Application {
      public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
    //    URL.setURLStreamHandlerFactory(new HandlerFactory());
        launch(args);
      public void start(final Stage stage) throws Exception {
        final FlowPane layout = new FlowPane();
        WebView webView = new WebView();
        webView.getEngine().load("file:///C:\\dev\\gettingstarted\\timeforgotten.html");
    //    webView.getEngine().load("jar:file:///C:\\dev\\javafx\\JavaFXidea\\out\\artifacts\\JavaFXidea_jar\\JavaFXidea.jar!/org/jewelsea/examples/webviewlocal/timeforgotten.html");
    //    webView.getEngine().load("resource:///org/jewelsea/examples/webviewlocal/timeforgotten.html");
        webView.getEngine().getLoadWorker().exceptionProperty().addListener(new ChangeListener<Throwable>() {
          @Override public void changed(ObservableValue<? extends Throwable> observableValue, Throwable oldThrowable, Throwable newThrowable) {
            System.out.println("Load exception: " + newThrowable);
        // layout the scene.
        layout.getChildren().addAll(webView);
        Scene scene = new Scene(layout, 1000, 600);
        webView.prefWidthProperty().bind(scene.widthProperty());
        webView.prefHeightProperty().bind(scene.heightProperty());
        stage.setScene(scene);
        stage.show();
    }which loads the following html file:
    <html>
    <head>
      <style type="text/css">p { color: sienna; font-size: 20px; text-align: center; }</style>
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="cornsilk">
    <p><em>
        <br/>
        On either side the river lie,<br/>
        Long fields of barley and of rye,<br/>
        And through the fields a road runs by,<br/>
        To many towered Camelot.
    </em></p>
    <p><img src="camelot.jpg"/></p>
    </body>
    </html>If you want to test this example the camelot.jpg image is downloadable from http://www.timelessmyths.com/arthurian/gallery/camelot.jpg.
    Option 1: The file:// protocol for lookup from the filesystem.
    This is the most straight-forward as it is just based on standard html layout in the filesystem - just place your html and it's relative referenced images somewhere in your filesystem in locations relative to each other - if your browser loads it properly, then your webengine will to if you give it the right file:// path.
    In the case of file:///C:\\dev\\gettingstarted\\timeforgotten.html, timeforgotten.html is placed in c:\dev\gettingstarted and camelot.jpg image is placed in the same directory.
    Option 2: The jar:file:// protocol for lookup from a jar hosted on the filesystem.
    This makes use of the http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/net/JarURLConnection.html to find your resources.
    If your application resources are packaged in a jar file (could be the same jar file as your main application class) then you can reference the jar file through the file protocol, then pick out the resources packaged in the jar file via their relative paths.
    Option 3: The resource:// protocol for lookup based on the classpath.
    This type of resource lookup is the one most Java programmers are familiar with - a classloader is used to load a resource. The pattern is widely used in web application frameworks on the server. But usually the means to do this is via a classloader.getResource() call, not via a URL.
    Java does not, by default, have a URL protocol handler for looking up resources on the classpath, so if you want to do this, it is necessary to create your own protocol and install it.
    The installation function is the commented out line: // URL.setURLStreamHandlerFactory(new HandlerFactory());
    It is a system wide call for the VM and should be called (just once) before any URL Connections are established.
    To get this to work I used a resource handler from http://www.arakhne.org/arakhneVmutils/index.html which included the following classes:
      java.org.arakhne.vmutil.resource.Handler
      java.org.arakhne.vmutil.resource.HandlerFactory
      java.org.arakhne.vmutil.resource.URLConnection
      java.org.arakhne.vmutil.ClassLoaderFinder
      java.org.arakhne.vmutil.Resources
      java.org.arakhne.vmutil.ResourceNotFoundException
      java.org.arakhne.vmutil.URISchemeType
      java.org.arakhne.vmutil.URLHandlerUtilDetails on how all this works are in http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/protocolhandlers/ which defines "A New Era for Java Protocol Handlers" by defining a URL handler extension mechanism which is hardly ever used.
    As a final note to my way overly long forum post, when the WebEngine doesn't process the urls sometimes you can get info on what went wrong via the monitoring the loadWorker's exception property, but sometimes I was able to get more complete stack traces by trying to open a connection on a URL to see if I had got the URL correct - for example:
        URL url = new URL("jar:file:///C:\\dev\\javafx\\JavaFXidea\\out\\artifacts\\JavaFXidea_jar!/org/jewelsea/examples/webviewlocal/timeforgotten.html");
        url.openConnection();Anyway, just using the file:// protocol in webEngine.load() will probably accomplish what you need.
    Note that if it is a webstart or browser embedded app, then you'll need to sign it if you want to access the local file system.

  • Show HTML content as TextBlock string

    I need to show some string parsed as HTML content like TextBlock text i.e. no scrolling in text and size of control auto adjusts to size of string. I thought of converting the html to string and set this as content of textblock but I also want the formatted
    view of HTML tags. Is it even possible? If it is then how can I achieve this?

    >>Is it even possible?
    No, the TextBlock doesn't translate HTML tags like <b>bold..</b> to bold text if that's what you are trying to do.
    But you could use the WebView control and its NavigateToString method to load a local HTML string into it and display on your XAML page:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/windows.ui.xaml.controls.webview.
    Hope that helps.

  • HTML window in AIR app can't open new window

    Hi, By allowing HTML content to be displayed inside our AIR app it's possible for our partner organization to write their own custom features hosted on HTML pages at their site, but for their content to appear integrated seamlessly within our AIR app's container so that it looks like it belongs there...
    We've successfully got an HTML window within our AIR app that navigates to content in a sub-folder on a web-hosted domain. Content displays correctly and hyperlinks function within the HTML window as we'd expect apart from three scenarios that appear to be manifestations of the same problem:
    A hyperlink on a page shown in-app with a link to a PDF stored on the web server has no action
    A hyperlink on a page shown in-app with a link to a video file stored on the web server has no action
    A hyperlink on a page shown in-app with a link to another site (target="_blank" parameter) has no action
    All three hyperlink scenarios work as we'd wish if we navigate to the page in a standard browser.
    How can we code the HTML so that we can display selected content in an HTML window inside the AIR app; but have selected hyperlinks invoke the user's standard web browser, or launch Adobe Reader, or play a video file etc?
    Note, we understand how to do those things within AIR itself, but can't figure out how to achieve this from inside the HTML window in the app.

    Hello,
    As to "_blank" links:
    this is long-standing lacking feature - as there is no introspection of event of such type - so it goes and could not be prevented. One could either handle all navigation with system browser (all links open in system external browser) or handle them in embedded browser - similar issue is bugging people using phoneGab with jQueryMobile - application eats all external links or none at all). There are solution for that including runtime introspection of DOM object to retrieve all anchor (a) tags in rendered document and attach custom click handler via host object like on complete:
    var document:Object = html.htmlLoader.window.document;
    if(!document && !document.hasOwnProperty("getElementsByTagName")) return;
    var linksArray:Object = document.getElementsByTagName("a");
    if(!linksArray) return;
    var a:Object = null;
    for(var i:Number = 0; i < linksArray.length; i++)
         a = linksArray[i];
         if(a)
              a.onclick = function(event:Object):Boolean
                   if(event.target.hasOwnProperty("href") && event.target.hasOwnProperty("target"))
                        if(event.target.target != "_blank") return true;
                        flash.net.navigateToURL(new URLRequest(event.target.href));
                   return false;
    but if you have control on what content is provided you could take care of handling links depending on runtime feature detection that way in javascript:
    <script type="text/javascript">
         function handleClick(a)
              if(!window.runtime) return true;
              if(a.hasAttribute("target") && a.getAttribute("target") == "_blank")
                   var href = a.getAttribute("href");
                   var req = new window.runtime.flash.net.URLRequest(href);
                   if(req) window.runtime.flash.net.navigateToURL(req);
              return false;
    </script>
    <a     href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/" target="_blank" onclick="handleClick(this);">BBC</a>
    <br />
    <a href="http://www.google.com/" onclick="handleClick(this);">Google</a>
    (above could be scripted globally with help of jQuery for example for all links without much coding).
    In 2.7 there is new event introduced to help with introspection so one could prevent event if link is internal and do whatever is expected in application:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/filesystem/File.h tml
    If you post some details on how PDF and video content is expected to be shown in html I'm sure someone would share some hints as well,

  • Display a modal window in a single cocoa app

    Hi,
    I have a single cocoa app(non document base), I need to display another window modally, any hint how to do this? thanks,
    Angelo

    xcode960,
    my friend, you are using outdated terminology. this is probably causing you no end of challenges.
    the concept of a modal window has been laid to rest. why? well OS X is a true multi-tasking OS. so there are no windows That will grab the whole screen and not let it go. You can hack one up, but it is simply bad UI design, and leads to a poor user experience.
    so lets talk about options:
    1. Sheets. Apple developed the sheet concept to replace modal dialogs. it requires user input JUST LIKE modal windows, but sheets are Application specific and do not upset the multitasking nature of OS X.
    2. tabs. you can make a hidden tabview with 2 views in your main window. the first one contains your application's ui, the second has your modal content. The tabs are hidden, which allows you to programatically switch them. This lets you take the UI away from the user and require them to deal with your modal content before you allow them to continue.
    I'm sure there are many other ways of going about this, but the most important thing to be aware of is that Modal windows are highly discouraged these days, so support for them is NOT available.

  • Python and PyObjC, developing native Cocoa apps rapidly!

    Python is all grown up it seems for developing native OS X applications. For those who want to check out how to rapidly put together native Cocoa apps in less than half the lines of code and none of the manual memory management of the C derivative languages, Apple now has some articles on the developer site to inspire and to help point the way.
    Although my personal preference is wxPython for making GUI's that will look like native Windows/OSX/Unix applications no matter what platform the python app is run on I still will give PyObjC a go.

  • Transfering offline HTML content to my ipad 3

    Hi.
    I have a folder  called docs that has a list of html content for reading some programming documents offline.
    i want to somehow transfer this folder into my ipad and browse/read throw these offline html files on the go on my ipad.
    Any suggestions on how to do the above and what App i need to read them?
    Thanks

    No, it does not connect to the Internet, so any external linked entities - images, style sheets, etc. - will not render. If your files are just self contained HTML, no problem. If not, which sounds like the case, you have pages designed principally for delivery on a web server platform (pretty much the case for most web pages) and may have difficulty doing what you are attempting on an IOS device.
    There are some apps that will capture and display a page as a webarchive. I've experimented with a combination of iCab Mobile (iPad), dropbox, ShareFile, IE8 (Windows PC), and Chrome (Windows PC) and can't quite get it to work.
    You might consider printing the files to PDF and then transfering over.. HTML isn't really engineered to do what  you need.

  • Html Content without scrolling

    I need to show html content like a textblock in Store App 8.1. I have created a webview and navigate this webview to the html string
    coming dynamically. After this I call a script to disable the scrolling in WebView but I am not able to set the height of WebView according to the amount of content coming dynamically. I have created another webview to get the height of content but it returns
    wrong height and sometimes text is not shown. So whole view is ruined.I need to show html content without scrolling. I tried RichtextBlock but it does not parse all html tags properly. Can somebody provide a solution to it?

    What's the scenario for this issue?

    NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined
