Hudson - Unable to create the home directory

Hello, I installed tomcat and downloaded hudson.war and put it into
/opt/tomcat/webapps/hudson.war
I'm able to navigate to localhost:8080/hudson, but I only see this message:
Unable to create the home directory {0}. This is most likely a permission problem.
To change the home directory, use HUDSON_HOME environment variable or set the HUDSON_HOME system property. See Container-specific documentation for more details of how to do this.
I've set HUDSON_HOME in a gazillion places -- yet none of them has done any good.
Can anyone point me to a solution?
Thanks,
--Nate

That indicates that Time Machine is having trouble writing to that sparse bundle.

  • Unable to create the Backup Directory???

Good day and thanks for looking.
My son's MacBook backs up great, so does my MacPro Tower, but my MacBook Pro cannot. I Keep getting the Error message:
"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup Directory"
I've searched here to no avail.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Unable to create the portable home directory for this user

    This is driving me nuts!
I have a network user who I can login to on any machine on the network. I want a PHD to be created on a laptop and eveytime I answer 'yes' to 'create PHD for this user' I get the "unable to create the PHD for this user" message.
    What am I doing wrong?

I fixed this by unbinding the laptop from the od server as I had used this user previously for PHD's on this machine. Setting up the machine to bind to OD again and all is well.

  • Unable to create node /home/ SID adm with type directory

I am currently experiencing a problem when trying to install a Java Stack onto my new SCM 7.0  EHP1 server.
    I receive the error:
    System call failed.  Error 89......mkdir..../home/djdadm....
(djd is the SID of my new Java AS)
This is followed by an error:
Unable to create node /home/djdadm with type directory
We have Solaris v10 (SPARC), and the ABAP stack has already been installed successfully.
The user djdadm was created manually on solaris before starting the installation (assigned to groups sapsys, dba, sapinst + oper) and the home directory "/usr/sap/DJD/home" was specified.
Note the difference in the home directory that it is trying to create to the one that we set against the new user djdadm.
This error is experienced quite early in when SAPINST is performing the tasks (and it stops at the Create users for SAP system stage).
I was experiencing a problem where SAPINST crashed completely for a while, so I've downloaded the latest version of SAPINST today.  Also, I've set a new TEMP folder and am running SAPINST from there, but am stuck at the problem mentioned above.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello,
It looks like a Solaris issue. Check if the home directory /home is reserved in the Solaris configuration.
You may try this in that case:
    1. modify /etc/auto_master file to change the entry for '/home' to say
       '/autohome' instead
    2. reboot
    3. rmdir /home
    4. ln -s /export/home /home (make sure /export/home exists)

    Hello, check directory permissions

  • How can I use the /home directory

I'm doing development work on my Mac (running Snow Leopard). The output location for the production server I use is under "/home/subdir". I'd like to develop my files on the Mac so they reside in the same relative location, but from the default install this is not possible.
The /home directory is hidden by default. If I view hidden files, it looks like a mounted hard drive, but with no space. If I try to do something in the /home directory, I get "Operation not supported". For example, from the command line "sudo mkdir /home/test" returns "mkdir: /home/test: Operation not supported".
(Originally, when I was useing Leopard, I moved the installed /home to /home_old and created my own /home directory, but the install to Snow Leopard reverted it back to the locked out /home dir. The other one was preserved, but it makes me nervous enough that I don't want to try it again without some reassurance.)
So, the question: Is there a safe way to use /home on a Mac running Snow Leopard?

Found the answer in another forum post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2073807&tstart=0
To get the /home directory back. Edit /etc/auto_master and remove or comment out the line that starts with "/home". Then reboot.

  • Error while creating the backup directory

I bought a Time Capsule yesterday. As with all of Apple's networking products, it set up like a breeze. Took about 10 minutes. I have two MacBooks running on the network now. I set Time Machine to start working on both of them (one of them has used TM before with an attached external hard drive). The machine that never used TM before is backing up nicely to the TC. On my machine, however, I keep getting this error: Time Machine Error. Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory."
Have any of you run into this before and, if so, how do I get around it?
Both MacBooks are 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM and running 10.5.2
    Thanks,
    Martin

Maybe I have the answer for you, TommorowNeverKnows. Somewhere on the forum in the many emails about this subject, someone proposed a solution and yesterday it worked for me. (I'm sorry that I can't find it right now, but I do remember it).
He (or she) proposed first using Onyx to see whether that solved the problem. If not, then download the combo updater for 10.5.2 and try that. He was unable to run it, however; and I couldn't run it either -- a message about it's not being able to run on "this machine." That might be because the machine was already running 10.5.2.
In that case, he proposed doing an archive and install from the original system disc (being sure, of course, to save your settings). Well, I dreaded doing that, just because of the time it took, but by yesterday evening I was so frustrated that I bit the bullet. So I archived and installed and was back to 10.5. Then I ran the combo updater and it worked. Then I did a Software Update, and there was loads of stuff to be updated. After all that, I turned on Time Machine and went to bed.
When I woke this morning, the machine was fully backed up to the Time Capsule with no errors (about 92+ gig). And when I looked at my Time Machine files, everything was just fine.
So, if you haven't tried this yet, I would say that it's definitely worth an attempt.
    Hope this helps,
    Martin

  • Is there a file in which OSX stores the home directory path, where to find it and how to edit it in Windows 7?

    Hi everyone,
I have a SSD with the System and Apps on it, and another HDD containing the home directory.
I made the mistake to rename the Volume the home directory is on whilst being logged in, the system reacted accordingly and prompted some Password requests,
and I then tried to choose the newly named Volume in the Advanced options dialogue in Users & Groups (example seen below).
I tried to change the name back to what it was in the hope of it all being back to normal again, but instead it's completely messed up now and I cannot login anymore (prompt: "You are unable to log in to the user account "xxxx" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred")
All I can do now is boot my Windows 7 and try to fix this from there, I can read/write the OSX Volumes thanks to MacDrive.
So now the big question is:
IS THERE A FILE containing the path to the home directory (red arrow)?
IF SO, WHERE can I find it?
And is there a way to edit it in Windows?
My guess is that if I rename the Volume, AND change this path to something identical again, it might solve the issue.
    Thanks!

  • TM Error - An error occurred while creating the backup directory.

    mmm
Got the TC last Wednesday. Connected 1 brand new iMac and a one year old mini, both on 10.5.2 with Airport Utility updates.
The mini just started getting errors (Sunday lunch)
    TM Error
Unable to complete computer backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory.
Forcing a Backup Now gets the same error.
Mini is connected wirelessly direct to the TC and can browse the TC and read/write files ok.
I can see no reason how why this error is occurring.
TM opens and you can browse the backups fine.
Anyone know how to get TM to be able to create directories again?
    Thanks

exactly what I am seeing as well. I had one complete backup before I started seeing the exact error you are getting. I have tried everything I can think of from watching here and spending as much time on hold as I can afford. Hold times to talk with someone who actually might be able to help, that means not the first tech you will speak with but who they transfer you to may understand the TC/TM errors and fixes that work. That means 1 hour plus on hold, almost an hour before the first tech will finally give up and transfer you deeper and 30 minutes to 45 on hold there. Add another hour for them to get caught up with your case. These times are kinda like TC/TM themselves, very slow. I am connected via ethernet and shut down everything when trying to get this to work thus I have lost over 100 hours work time because of trying to get this to work without any interruption. It is such a generic error message it so totally reminds me of windoze daze. All I can do at this point is follow the leader on on the Apple death and dying forums. I am toast on trying and have seen that exact error screen more times than I am willing to admit. I am gonna get something that works as soon as I recover from spending 299 on a new wireless router! Please any of you seeing this error and somehow overcome it please post back and gives us losers something to chew on?

  • Time Machine Error: An error occurred while creating the backup directory

Time Machine Error: Unable to complete backup. An error occured while creating the backup directory.
I back up to wirelessly to a Time Capsule. I get these errors often. I'll go for a few days with everything working and then encounter these errors. I've even completely erased the Time Capsule drive and started over. It'll work fine for a few days and then start the errors over again. Interestingly, when the errors occur, the Time Capsule drive can not be unmounted even if clicking the eject button. I am on 10.5.8 but it happened in 10.5.7 as well. I have another Mac that doesn't seem to have any issues with the same Time Capsule.

  • Unable to create the creative cloud files folder.

I get this message when I try to sync files to Creative Cloud folder:
I have tried the options, and to close the program and restart the computer, but no luck.

    Hi,
This looks like Creative Cloud is unable to create the Creative Cloud folder is your user home folder, are you certain that this location is 100% writable? there are no permissions stopping programs writing to this location?, its unusual that your Creative Cloud folder is missing, you must have manually moved or deleted it.
    Thanks

  • Can't create portable home directory

I recently changed a user's login in Active Directory (she changed her last name.) I changed her local home folder on her Mac to her new login, ran chown on the folder to update her home directory ownership to the new login name and everything was fine. She could log in and access her account using her new login. However, she now gets the message "Can't create portable home directory" when logging in. Nobody else on the machine gets that message. I understand what it's telling me, but I don't know where to look to fix it.

see how many occurrences her shortname has in netinfo and delete the second one. There is a conflict on the local machine w/ her userid and shortname or try removing the first acct and let it rebuild her new user acct on the local machine.

  • RW-00000: Unable to write the following directory after aborting rapidwiz

    Hello installation Gurus,
I am running rapidwiz as root to install/upgrade ebs to 12.1.1 on oracle Linux 6 and it is failing on the database Node Configuration with
"RW-00000: Unable to write the following directory. Please check permissions." The irony is it doesn't exactly tells me which directory.
My oracle account is orafint and owns /u01/app/oracle and /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1.
I rant through this installation last night and abort at when I realised that it could not continue for lack of an existing inventory as I had yet installed the database rdmbs. I cancelled rapidwiz, installed the rdbms, created a database and rebooted the server. I have tried "rapidwiz -restart" to no avail.
The log file /tmp/11021532 has not errors in it. No file in oraInventory/ has been updated since I started this installation.
I have read a few forums but non was of help.

    Hi Hussein,
thanks, Note [ID 110372.1] solved that problem by renaming /etc/oraInst.loc, some files in/tmp and then restarting the installation.
But I just encountered another problem towards the end of my installation:
RW-50016: Error: - Database ORACLE_HOME environment file was not created:
    File = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/OFTEST_ofintest.env

I had precious successfully installed from this same directory about two twice within the past two months for testing so rapid install is up to date.

  • Unable to create the temporary folder. Error 183 when starting Distiller

New information discovered - see end of message!
Full error message is (window title is Acrobat Distiller):
"Unable to create the temporary folder
Error: 183 - cannot create a file when that file already exists."
I have no idea what file or what folder it is referring to. This is on an x86 Vista notebook and the message comes up when starting the notebook and also if you manually start Distiller 8. Updating did not help, nor did turning off the UAC, or running Distiller as Administrator. In the latter case, Distiller will open correctly, but the next time you need to use it, it fails. With the UAC turned off, the behavior is for it to show the Distiller window for a fraction of a second and close immediately. I also gave the user full rights to the C:\Program Files\Adobe folder and lower. Made no difference.
Coincidental with this is that the PDFMOfficeAddIn.dll add-in will not enable in Word - when it is checked, and I hit OK, I get the message:
"The connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed."
All of this is going on when logged in as an administrator. I have seen folks post about this issue, but no answers that actually fiux the problem, just suggest what I have already tried. Anyone seen this one?
The user is highly mobile, so I am not going to have a chance to work on her computer again until next week.
    NEW INFO
I tried removing and reinstalling as administrator and the problem remains. However while trying to troubleshoot, I discovered some more details.
The message is being thrown when acrotray.exe is started as a process in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Control Set\Run and then tries to run acrodist.exe (which fails, BTW). If I don't let it run there and run acrotray, exe as administrator, then acrodist.exe runs as a process without an error. Additionally, stopping it from running in the registry, and then starting MS Word, the Acrobat add-in does load and even though there is an error thown, it still creates the PDF! I have other Vista 32 notebooks running various Acrobat versions with no problems.
Another key thing I found out is that Acrobat started throwing the error after an HP Scanjet 8400 and its software were installed. I tried explicitly giving the user (already an administrator) full rights to the Acrobat, HP and Read IRIS directories. Did not help the problem. I have to think that there is some interaction there, but sure don't know what it is.

what i did to eliminate that error message, i don't think it eliminated th
e problem but now i can reboot and log in OK, was 2 things:
i went into my system registry and unchecked to start at startup and then disavled it.
i also had to go to each adobe icon, right click, go to properites, and than make all selections set to be administator.

    Impact: Configuration
This seems to indication my identity assertion is incorrect. My oam authentication provider is pretty simple.
I am using OPEN transport security so the provider config is pretty simple. I provided an AccessGate pwd, primary and secondary access gate servers and Access Gate name provided by my administrator.
I'm not sure about what the Application Domain field refers to. Can someone provide guidance on that?
