Hundreds of FlashUtil processes not closing with IE8 on W7

My problem is that hundreds of instances of FlashUtil32_11_8_800_94_ActiveX.exe are opening and not closing.  They all consume about 4MB of memory. I am running IE8 on W7.
I first noticed the problem with Flash 11.7, so I tried updating to 11.8, but this problem still remains.  I have never noticed these hundreds of instances in Task Manager/Processes until just a week ago.  I'm not sure what would have changed.
I do see that others have reported this problem as far back as Flash 10c - http://forums.adobe.com/message/2151836#2151836
I am able to display and use Flash content just fine from IE8, but these instances just keep loading every time I visit a page with Flash content.  Many days there will be nearly 1000 instances open - each consuming about 4 MB of memory.

Have you tried repairing IE? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

  • Are Adobe Captivate swf files not compatible with IE8 or IE9 when inserted into RoboHelp projects?

    Hi,
    I've published Adobe Captivate swf files and then inserted them into my RoboHelp project. I then synced my RoboHelp project with our website and the videos within online help are not functioning in IE8 or IE9. They are only working in IE11.
    Thanks,

    Hi there
    When a SWF plays in IE, it uses the Flash Player ActiveX control. I'm not 100% sure that different versions of IE would share the install. So if you have one version of IE on your machine, perhaps it either doesn't even have the control added in or it's the wrong version.
    One thing I would check in the browsers where the content seems to be missing is to right-click the blank area and see if you coax a Flash pop similar to below:
    Then note the version number.
    You may find that all that you (or others) need to do is ensure you have at least a specific version of the player/add-in installed.
    Cheers... Rick

  • DriverManagerConnectionPoolConnection not closed with TopLink cahce synch

    We're using TopLink in several JVMs and have configured cache synchronisation over JMS. The JMS topic runs on Oracle AQ. Every once in a while we get the follwoing error from OC4J:
    DriverManagerConnectionPoolConnection not closed, check your code!
    Now this could be some connection we forget to close, but we do use TopLink for all our databasecommunication. I also see that every time it shows up the last steps of the stacktrace involves the TopLink cache and the AQ classes:

    For those of you familiar with the Spring Framework you'll notice I'm invoking an SLSB throug it, and that thet start of the stackrace is missing, but this error also shows up in other contexts. This is only one of them. They all have in common the AQ and Cache sync lines.
    Anyone have any ideas? Is it even tied to TopLink or might it be an AQ issue?
    Anders,

    What version of OC4J are you using?
    If you are using a 10.1.3 preview release, this may be an issue with OC4J connection pooling in that preview release.
    You could try using AS JMS and TopLink connection pooling to determine which is causing the issue.

    Hello
    I am pretty sure they know about this issue and software companies must not hear what the people say. For me it is logic that they watch what happen on the software market and try to adapt own products as soon as possible.
    This issue with IE8 is known and soon or later the updated version will be offered on download page but the question is: when?
    I cannot understand why they wait so long time. OK, to fix some issue and testing procedure can take a days but IE8 is not on the market from yesterday.
    Lets see how long it will be necessary for AuthenTec to fix this issue.

  • Flash Player Does Not Work with IE8 and Windows XP

    I am using Windows XP VR 5.1 with SP3. Flash Player does not function? So videos will not play that use Flash Player. The Adobe Support Site has been 000 Help because it is a free product. Microsoft says it is an Adobe problem. Finger pointing to the nth degree. I have loaded the latest version of Javascript and Flash Palyer.. Any ideas?

    Resetting IE is a shotgun approach, but may be much easier (and faster) for a user than trying to troubleshoot and find exactly which add-on, control, setting is causing issues. For a fast approach, you can reset IE, then start re-installing the add-ons you wish to use. Here is a kb that describes the process and even provides a Fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
    If you’d like to troubleshoot, here are some steps that will fix most issues with Internet Explorer and Add-ons. This can be more of a scalpel approach, and could help you save your cookies, stored passwords, etc.
    1)      Update your Windows software
    a.       Follow the steps below to view updates that are available for your computer.
                                                       i.      Click to go online to the Windows Update website
    1.       Note: If Microsoft Update is not installed, you will be taken to the Windows Update website. See the note below if Microsoft Update is not installed.
                                                     ii.      Click Custom to check for available updates. In the left pane, under Select by Type, click each of the following links to view all available updates:
    1.       High Priority
    2.       Software, Optional
    3.       Hardware, Optional
                                                    iii.      Select the updates you want, click Review and install updates, and then click Install Updates.
    b.      What do I do if Microsoft Update is not installed?
                                                       i.      Follow the steps below to install Microsoft Update and check for updates.
    1.       Click to go online to the Windows Update website
    2.       Click the Go button next to the Get Microsoft Update Today and then click Start Now.
    3.       Review the license agreement, and then click Continue.
    4.       After setup is complete, click Check for Updates.
    5.       Click Custom to check for available updates. In the left pane, under Select by Type, click each of the following links to view all available updates:
    a.       High Priority
    b.      Software, Optional
    c.       Hardware, Optional
    6.       Select the updates you want, click Review and install updates, and then click Install Updates.
    2)      Turn off Internet Explorer add-ons you don't recognize
    a.       When you visit a website, an add-on might be downloaded without your knowledge, or you might be prompted to download an add-on. These add-ons might cause Internet Explorer to run slowly or become unresponsive. You should remove all Internet Explorer add-ons you don't recognize or trust.
    b.      How do I spot malicious add-ons?
                                                       i.      You can usually spot malicious add-ons under the Name column in the Manage Add-ons dialog box. Malicious add-ons might have:
    1.       Blank names.
    2.       Names that include random characters or have a sequence of numbers and letters (for example, fhriduvh.dll or f6rid8vh.exeas as opposed to Windows Messenger).
    3.       A publisher name you might not recognize.
    c.       How do I disable an add-on?
                                                       i.      Open Internet Explorer.
                                                     ii.      Depending on your version of Internet Explorer, do one of the following:
    1.       In Internet Explorer 6, click the Tools menu, and then click Manage Add-ons.
    2.       In Internet Explorer 7, click the Tools menu, point to Manage Add-ons, and then click Enable or Disable Add-ons.
    3.       In Internet Explorer 8, click the Tools menu, click Manage Add-ons, and then click Toolbars and Extension (if necessary). Also note the drop down list labeled “Show:” You are interested in Add-ons and Downloaded
    4.       Follow these steps to determine the version of Internet Explorer you're using:
    a.       Open Internet Explorer.
    b.      Press ALT+H, and then click About Internet Explorer.
    c.       How can I find which version of Internet Explorer I'm using if it won't launch?
                                                                                                                                i.      If you're unable to launch Internet Explorer you can use the following steps to determine the version you're using:
    1.       Click Start, click Run, type %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
    2.       Right-click iexplore, click Properties, and then click Version.
    3.       Under Item name, click File Version. The version number appears under Value to the right of File Version.
    a.       Note:If the file version number begins with 6, you have Internet Explorer 6. If the file version number begins with 7, you have Internet Explorer 7. If the file version number begins with 8, you have Internet Explorer 8.
    d.      If you aren't using the latest version of Internet Explorer, consider updating.
                                                                                                                                i.      How do I update to the latest version of Internet Explorer?
    1.       Click to download and install the latest version of Internet Explorer
                                                                                                                              ii.      How can I update Internet Explorer without launching my web browser?
    1.       Click to go online to the Windows Update website.
    2.       Click Custom to check for available updates.
    3.       In the left pane, under Select by Type, click Software, Optional.
    4.       Select the Internet Explorer update, and then click Review and install updates.
                                                    iii.      Click the name of the add-on.
    1.       Click Disable. You might have to restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.
    2.       Why do some add-ons include (Not verified) in the Publisher column?
    a.       If (Not verified) is displayed in the Publisher column in the Manage Add-ons dialog box, the add-on itself is not digitally signed even though the program that installed it might be. A digital signature verifies that a file comes from the person or publisher it claims to be from, and that no one has tampered with it since it was digitally signed.
    3.       How do I disable an add-on if I can't access Internet Explorer?
    a.       Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    b.      Double-click Internet Options.
    c.       Click the Programs tab, and then click Manage Add-ons.
    d.      Click the name of the add-on you want to disable, and then select Disable.
    e.      When the Add-on Status dialog box appears, click OK to close it.
    3)      Perform a free Full Service Scan using Windows Live OneCare safety scanner (not necessary if you don’t suspect viruses and are confident in the protection you have on your machine).
    a.       Go to the following website, and then click Full Service Scan: Windows Live OneCare safety scanner
                                                       i.      http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56726
    If you are still experiencing issues, perform these steps. If the issue subsides, you may discontinue the remainder of the steps
    1)      Disable all add-ons (one at a time) until you can no longer reproduce the problem
    a.       Close all Internet Explorer windows.
    b.      Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    c.       Click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Internet Options.
    d.      Click the Programs tab, and then click Manage Add-ons.
    e.      Click the name of the add-on you want to turn off, and then, under Settings, click Disable.
    f.        Click OK.
    g.       Restart Internet Explorer. Continue using Internet Explorer the same way you did when you received a crash report. If Internet Explorer continues to crash after disabling this add-on, continue with the next step.
    h.      Repeat steps b through g for each add-on listed. When you can no longer reproduce the problem, the most recently disabled add-on is the cause of the problem. Once you discover the add-on that is causing the issues, you can uninstall it (use Manufacturer’s uninstaller if one is provided) then if you wish to continue to use the add-on, install the latest version from the manufacturer’s site.

  • Reader 11.0.3 on W2k3 TS - process not closing

    An old issue seems to be back: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4512061#4512061
    Adobe Reader 11.0.3 on Windows 2003 x32 Terminalservers latest patchlevel with Citrix XenApp 4.5. Since upgrade from Version 11.0.2 to 11.0.3 sometimes two processes acrord32.exe keep running after the user closes the window. One of them consumes high amounts of cpu-time. This happens three or four times for different users, then the machine becomes unresponsive until the processes are killed via Taskmanager. It doesen't matter how acrord32.exe was invoked, browser-plugin, double-clicking stored files on network drives, Outlook attachments etc. Users claim just to have viewed the PDFs, no high-level functions like signing or commenting were used.
    The installation package was transformed with the latest version of the Customization Wizard where Proteced Mode/View and all online functions were disabled.
    The solution in the above discussion (disabling the welcome screen) didn't solve the issue. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

    The identical phenomen happend on a standalone PC with Win8 / 64bit using Adobe Reader (since last upgrade?):
    When closing Adobe Reader there remain two processes acrord32.exe in the Taskmanager, one of them using about 20% of a 3.1 GHz i5 Processor. Each time the Reader is used again, new processes like those come on top, so the computer is no more working soon. See my topic "Consuming CPU-time after closing Adobe Reader".

    I see this is still an issue even after the latest update....  Will this problem be addressed?  Right now I have to manually update the html code for each page after export.    This is a site that I update regularly so every time a change is made I have to fix each page so it can be viewed without the black boxes in ie8.

  • RH8 Webhelp not working with IE8 - potential workaround

    So after about 2 hours on the phone with Adobe, and no luck getting even an ounce of support, I'm totally frustrated and ready to give up.
    Problem - generate webhelp with RH8, display in IE8. Browser opens, spawns a blank window. Help might be displayed the first time, but subsequent calls, no help displayed. One developer has trusted sites listed and they NEVER get help to show up, not even the first time.
    Research - developers did some debugging and found that even though we are using IE8, we fall into the IE5 branch of the whcsh_home.html file.
    RH call from the code being used is:
                      RoboHelp_CSH.RH_ShowHelp(0, url, RoboHelp_CSH.HH_HELP_CONTEXT, roboHelpTopicId);
    Here is a snippet of the code where the failure is happening (the failure line is bold and larger font size:
    if(gbIE5)
          var curWnd = null;
          curWnd = window.open("about:blank",sNewName,strOpt);
          goNewWnd=window.open(sURL,sNewName);
         else
          gsURL = sURL; // IE4 had hard time to handle bookmark.
          goNewWnd=window.open("about:blank",sNewName,strOpt);
         setTimeout("postWindowOpen();",100);
    Temporary solution that we used - now this isn't optimal, but at least we can actually SEE the help instead of staring at a very blank window... We replaced a section of the bolded line above as follows (replace about:blank with javascript:false)
    if(gbIE5)
          var curWnd = null;
          curWnd = window.open("javascript:false",sNewName,strOpt);
          goNewWnd=window.open(sURL,sNewName);
         else
          gsURL = sURL; // IE4 had hard time to handle bookmark.
          goNewWnd=window.open("about:blank",sNewName,strOpt);
         setTimeout("postWindowOpen();",100);
    What this does for us - well, we now can see help! Every time you make a CSH call you get a new tab in the IE8 browser window for that help call. Make 30 help calls, get 30 tabs.
    I have been unsuccessful in getting through to someone from Adobe to log this as a bug.
    I hope this helps someone.

  • Pasword Manger does not work with IE8 64-bit edition

    Recently I upgraded my IE7 to IE8 and decided to try 64-bit version. Everything works perfectly except Pasword Manager which does not supply paswords for logins anymore. Has anybody ecnountered this problem and found a solution?
    ThinkPad T500 2242-CTO P8600 / 4GB RAM / WSXGA+ / HDD Fujitsu 7200rpm 1TB / 6 Cell Sony / Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
    ThinkPad Tablet 2
    ThinkPad X61s 7669-3KG Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit

    This may solve your problem - It solved mine.
    In the latest update for iTunes and QuickTime Player,  For some reason the QuickTime update isn't completing and there's no error message warning that it's not initialized.  The solution:
    1) Reboot your PC.
    2) Launch QuickTime (If windows says that it is configuring QuickTime then this is most likely the culprit).
    3) When QuickTime opens successfully , then launch iTunes and it should launch successfully this time.
    The other thing I did was to rename my iTunes library before step 3 and let iTunes create a new library.  Then, when iTunes launched successfully, I shut it down - renamed the new library iTunesNew and renamed the original library iTunes. (I'm not sure this step is necessary since the root problem was the incomplete installation of QuickTime during the program update.)

  • Running a Java App like a service in linux and not closing with window

    I know its not really a question i should ask you but thought you might have a quick answer for me, I have trying to running a small java application on one of the servers. I want it to run almost like a service, what i mean is i dont want the application to end when the terminal session is ended. So i thought i should put an entry into the /etc/rc.local file as follows (Final Line):
    cd /home/bluepoint/Teamselect_ServerApp_v1.0/bin/
    java Server
    #!/bin/sh
    # This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
    # You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
    # want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.
    touch /var/lock/subsys/local
    /home/bluepoint/kmyfirewall.sh
    su - bluepoint "/usr/local/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28/bin/startup.sh"
    cd /home/bluepoint/startme.sh
    As you will see it call a shell script which contains only the following lines (or see attached):cd /home/bluepoint/Teamselect_ServerApp_v1.0/bin/
    java Server
    but nothing happens when i restart the server. The DB, sendmail, tomcat etc start fine but not my app.
    The application works fine if i start it in a terminal window so i know it can run.
    Any ideas what im doing wrong??
    Kind Regards

    It's probably not happening because you missed the -c from the su command. However this isn't the correct approach to daemon processes on linux (which is what you're after).
    What you need to do is to place a script in the /etc/init.d directory. This script should take a single argument and start the daemon if the argument is "start", and stop it if "stop". Check out the scripts already in there to see how it's done.
    Then go to System Settings/Server settings/Services and enable the new service for the normal run level.

  • Flash Player not installing with IE8

    When attempting to download Flash Player, the screen locks up and it is necessary to close down the browser.  A message is received during the lock up saying that protective software is blocking the action.  I have both Spotzilla and Norton 360.  Is it necessary for me to disable both of these before trying to download Flash Player?

    OS is XP with SP2
    Norton 360 is v. 3.8.0.41
    The only browzer we have is IE8
    Spotzilla provides Spyware and popup protection and is better at that than Nortons. It is v. 5.0.68.30
    Thanks for the info.  I will try disabling BOTH of them and then installing Adobe Flash Player.

  • EBS Closing balance not matching with opening balance.

    Hi,
    The Scenario: The first file for EBS is uploaded. The Second file opening balance did not match with the first files closing balance.
    As per my understanding the system throws an information message that FB729 that the closing balance did not match with the opening balance. The docuemnts also gets posted
    Question: If the bank sends the corrected file after uploading the first error statement how will we update the corrected account statement with appropriate opening balace.
    Thanks,
    Raja.

    Hi Taro,
                 Thanks for your reply. Infact Initially I was of the same opinion that if there is inconsistency in the closing and opening balance SAP would not process the statement. Thanks for your investigation the sysytem is behaving differently for different formats.
                   The SAP note 947857 only deals with a particular scenario where there is no inconsistency between closing balance and opening balance but the error comes up.
                   I will try to explain why I am asking about a functionality which updates the opening and closing balances of a statement based on our past experiences:
                    If we receive a wrong statement with wrong opening balance from the bank it would take us two weeks to convince the bank  about the wrong opening balance and subsequently bank sending the corrected account statement. If the FB729 message is an error message then there is no option but to wait till two weeks to upload the next statements.
                   So I want SAP  to upload the wrong statement and the subsequent statements as they come form bank. To correct the opening and closing balances i want to check if there is some statndard functionality which can do this. Rather than Table update as you suggested I would prefer a custom program for this functionality if standard does not allow.
                    If the difference between closing and opening balance is due to a missing statement then SAP  has suggested a note "SAP Note 1025077 - Problem with uploading out-of-sequence BAI2 bank statement" which actually allows the out of sequence statements to be uploaded.
                     Finally I would prefer the option of the wrong statements to be uploaded into SAP in the order they have come from the bank and subsequent corrections to the statements as approved by the bank.
    Thanks,
    Raja.
