Hyper-v usability - Stopping-Critical

I recently bought a new system, which works just fine. I installed Windows 2012 R2, installed a SSD drive and 3 Western Digital 4Tb Red drives. I've created my Storage pools and installed the hyper-v role. I've also patched Windows through the normal Windows
update process. I started building the 1st VM machine on this system.
What I'm noticing is that the VM will tend to go into a critical state. If I stop it the machine will go into a stopping-critical state. If I leave the machine running it can sometimes go into a running-critical state. Restarting the host machine doesn't
solve the problem. Restarting the Hyper-v server doesn't seem to resolve the issue either. And more importantly, it seems that the Hyper-v management interface refreshes VMs slowly. Note, the rest of Windows operates great. The switches and buttons inside
Hyper-v respond fine, but the VMs don't work hardly at all. I've tried using generation 1 and generation 2 VMs, it doesn't tend to make much of a difference.
I thought at first that maybe my drives were just slow so I created a new VM on my SSD, which does something like 90,000 IOPS and tried it there. I get the same behavior. I think this issue looks like a coding problem with Hyper-v more so than an environment
problem with Windows or the hardware.
Is this a known issue by Hyper-v? Why do VMs go into a critical state so often?What's the deal?
What logs are best to look at in this situation?

Hi Delamater,
As for BIOS update please contact the hardware vendor .
Base on this state , I would suggest to do :
a. if there is any anti-virus software please remove it
b. uninstall and re-install hyper-v role
c. create a vm without VNIC and IDE/SCSI controller
d. create another vm without VNIC and install OS
Please check If they are all going to critical state .

  • Hyper-V Virtual Machine Critical error (RAID 5)

    Hello
    I have received call from my manager today from one of our site regarding hyper-v issue.
    So here's the issue he stated as follows:
    One of the IT technician was assigned to add 8TB HDD in a SAN just to add more storage space for our servers
    So he went to the server room and boom he finished the job in minutes and started to configure RAID from his laptop like its all good as always.
    few hours later users started to complain they can't get access to their staff share Drive well guess out all of the hyper _ v machine stopped working (critical error) on the server he installed those TBs, the hyper -v E drive gone missing where all the
    virtual machines were stored.
    and lastly he told me they already had RAID 5 implemented on that server. To be honest I don't know much either and only possible cause of course would be the RAID which should have been taken under consideration before making such move.
    I was asked to give them a hand on this tomorrow and I will, just play around with it for bit and see where I can Lead to.
    Any help would be highly appreciated!

    I wonder if the server has failed, it does happen rarely
    I suggest gettings some lower cost NAS boxes for backups in case they are needed to repair the server

  • Windows Server 2012 - Hyper-V - iSCSI SAN - All Hyper-V Guests stops responding and extensive disk read/write

    We have a problem with one of our deployments of Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V with a 2 node cluster connected to a iSCSI SAN.
    Our setup:
    Hosts - Both run Windows Server 2012 Standard and are clustered.
    HP ProLiant G7, 24 GB RAM, 2 teamed NIC dedicated to Virtual Machines and Management, 2 teamed NIC dedicated to iSCSI storage. - This is the primary host and normaly all VMs run on this host.
    HP ProLiant G5, 20 GB RAM, 1 NIC dedicated to Virtual Machines and Management, 2 teamed NIC dedicated to iSCSI storage. - This is the secondary host that and is intended to be used in case of failure of the primary host.
    We have no antivirus on the hosts and the scheduled ShadowCopy (previous version of files) is switched of.
    iSCSI SAN:
    QNAP NAS TS-869 Pro, 8 INTEL SSDSA2CW160G3 160 GB i a RAID 5 with a Host Spare. 2 Teamed NIC.
    Switch:
    DLINK DGS-1210-16 - Both the network cards of the Hosts that are dedicated to the Storage and the Storage itself are connected to the same switch and nothing else is connected to this switch.
    Virtual Machines:
    3 Windows Server 2012 Standard - 1 DC, 1 FileServer, 1 Application Server.
    1 Windows Server 2008 Standard Exchange Server.
    All VMs are using dynamic disks (as recommended by Microsoft).
    Updates
    We have applied the most resent updates to the Hosts, WMs and iSCSI SAN about 3 weeks ago with no change in our problem and we continually update the setup.
    Normal operation
    Normally this setup works just fine and we see no real difference in speed in startup, file copy and processing speed in LoB applications of this setup compared to a single host with 2 10000 RPM Disks. Normal network speed is 10-200 Mbit, but occasionally
    we see speeds up to 400 Mbit/s of combined read/write for instance during file repair
    Our Problem
    Our problem is that for some reason all of the VMs stops responding or responds very slowly and you can for instance not send CTRL-ALT-DEL to a VM in the Hyper-V console, or for instance start task manager when already logged in.
    Symptoms (i.e. this happens, or does not happen, at the same time)
    I we look at resource monitor on the host then we see that there is often an extensive read from a VHDX of one of the VMs (40-60 Mbyte/s) and a combined write speed to many files in \HarddiskVolume5\System Volume Information\{<someguid and no file extension>}.
    See iamge below.
    The combined network speed to the iSCSI SAN is about 500-600 Mbit/s.
    When this happens it is usually during and after a VSS ShadowCopy backup, but has also happens during hours where no backup should be running (i.e. during daytime when the backup has finished hours ago according to the log files). There is however
    not that extensive writes to the backup file that is created on an external hard drive and this does not seem to happen during all backups (we have manually checked a few times, but it is hard to say since this error does not seem leave any traces in event
    viewer).
    We cannot find any indication that the VMs themself detect any problem and we see no increase of errors (for example storage related errors) in the eventlog inside the VMs.
    The QNAP uses about 50% processing Power on all cores.
    We see no dropped packets on the switch.
    (I have split the image to save horizontal space).
    Unable to recreate the problem / find definitive trigger
    We have not succeeded in recreating the problem manually by, for instance, running chkdsk or defrag in VM and Hosts, copy and remove large files to VMs, running CPU and Disk intensive operations inside a VM (for instance scan and repair a database file).
    Questions
    Why does all VMs stop responding and why is there such intensive Read/Writes to the iSCSI SAN?
    Could it be anything in our setup that cannot handle all the read/write requests? For instance the iSCSI SAN, the hosts, etc?
    What can we do about this? Should we use MultiPath IO instead of NIC teaming to the SAN, limit bandwith to the SAN, etc?

    Hi,
    > All VMs are using dynamic disks (as recommended by Microsoft).
    If this is a testing environment, it’s okay, but if this a production environment, it’s not recommended. Fixed VHDs are recommended for production instead of dynamically expanding or differencing VHDs.
    Hyper-V: Dynamic virtual hard disks are not recommended for virtual machines that run server workloads in a production environment
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee941151(v=WS.10).aspx
    > This is the primary host and normaly all VMs run on this host.
    According to your posting, we know that you have Cluster Shared Volumes in the Hyper-V cluster, but why not distribute your VMs into two Hyper-V hosts.
    Use Cluster Shared Volumes in a Windows Server 2012 Failover Cluster
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612868.aspx
    > 2 teamed NIC dedicated to iSCSI storage.
    Use Microsoft MultiPath IO (MPIO) to manage multiple paths to iSCSI storage. Microsoft does not support teaming on network adapters that are used to connect to iSCSI-based storage devices. (At least it’s not supported until Windows Server 2008 R2. Although
    Windows Server 2012 has built-in network teaming feature, I don’t article which declare that Windows Server 2012 network teaming support iSCSI connection)
    Understanding Requirements for Failover Clusters
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771404.aspx
    > I have seen using MPIO suggests using different subnets, is this a requirement for using MPIO
    > or is this just a way to make sure that you do not run out of IP adressess?
    What I found is: if it is possible, isolate the iSCSI and data networks that reside on the same switch infrastructure through the use of VLANs and separate subnets. Redundant network paths from the server to the storage system via MPIO will maximize availability
    and performance. Of course you can set these two NICs in separate subnets, but I don’t think it is necessary.
    > Why should it be better to not have dedicated wireing for iSCSI and Management?
    It is recommended that the iSCSI SAN network be separated (logically or physically) from the data network workloads. This ‘best practice’ network configuration optimizes performance and reliability.
    Check that and modify cluster configuration, monitor it and give us feedback for further troubleshooting.

  • Hyper Links suddenly stop working ? So does 'ctrl + T/pad'

    Hi everyone,
                         I hope I can explain this for you to uderstand easy.
    I may have 2 or 3 Tabs open and decided to open another, example Amazon. I start to look around and 'say' I want to find a CD cover to make a copy of to paste onto something, I find said CD and then all of a sudden nothing works, no hyper links, zero. The only way I can them to work again is to copy the present page I am on, open a new Tab, paste the link in and all works again ????? But the not the original Tab. Plus if I try the 'ctrl _ T/pad' to open the options you then get ( to then copy subject for one ) nothing, yet I tried this in Google Chrome just to test and see if that works and it does. So what the **** is going on, I have no idea so please can anyone come up with a answer !
    I hope I have this clear enough for someone to help.
    Steve
    PS: As I was even writing this everything suddenly stop, could not even 'highlight' some of the text and copy ( cmd + C )  .........

    Update on my first message.
    I have just tried everything regarding the above on my iMac ( the above problem is on my Macbook Pro' ) and guess what everything works fine ??????
    Went to Amazon for example, found a book cover, pressed 'ctrl + click on mouse' and hey presto it worked ( options open - open link in new tab, download link file, copy image etc ).
    So can anyone tell me why this does not work on my laptop please !

  • Hyper-V Replication stops working (General Access Denied)

    For a customer we have a MAIN/DR solution based on Hyper-V and Replicas.
    Main is equipped with 2 x Windows 2012 in a cluster, DR has one host standalone with Hyper-V.
    The whole shebang is managed via SCVMM 2012 and we have replication enabled for around 4 VM's going from MAIN to DR.
    Everything is working ok for a while and then all of a sudden we're getting events in our NOC about the fact that the replication has stopped. Upon further investigation we found a couple of events stating:
    "Hyper-V failed to open the file 'C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\VP-SCSQL01\VP-SCSQL01_E.vhdx' for replication in primary server for virtual machine 'VP-SCSQL01': General access denied error (0x80070005). (Virtual Machine ID B7020EE9-A781-4F50-B387-E781FC7F2315)"
    When we recreate the replication (so really deleting everything and setting the VM replication up from scratch) it starts and works fine. Resuming replication does not work.

    Hi Bart,
    Have you tried to enabled hyper-v replica broker for hyper-v cluster ?
    If you have enabled hyper-v replica broker , please try to use cluster manager to reproduce this issue and check if there is any useful event log .

  • Hyper-V Integration Services Stopped

    Hi,
    I have looked thru the forums and seem to be hitting a dead end or my search skills are failing. Anyhow, I have 2 Windows 2012 R2 DataCentre hosts running. They are running Hyper-v exclusively. I just noticed the other day that all the services for Hyper-V
    are stopped except for Virtual Machine Management. If I click on any of the stopped services, it will start up then promptly stop. It will give an error of:
    The Hyper-V x service on local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. I have reviewed my Windows Event logs and there are no warning or errors.
    Some other background, there is SCCM 2012 R2 (5.0.7958.1401) in the environment, but no SCCM agent is installed at the moment. There is also VMM 2012 (3.2.7672.0) and the agent for this is installed on both hosts. Both of the hosts have been re-imaged
    in the last 2 months, so I don't think it's some weird age related weirdness. I also removed the hyper-v role from one of the hosts, rebooted and then re-added it. This made no difference. I also tried to add about of services to the restrictedservices in
    the registry as I had come across this in the wild of the internet, but this made no difference.
    Any thoughts, idea's?

    Yes.  As I explained.  the Hosts are running an Bare Metal and not in a VM therefore these Integration Component services do not need to run.
    The services you are calling out are specific to Windows when it is running within a VM.  This is not a reflection of the hypervisor services that the Integration Components in the VMs hook in to.
    In the settings of the VM you can enable the integration component presentation to a VM.  And by default there is one option unticked.  Check it.
    And, on the host settings, enable Enhanced Session Mode.
    (I believe that it is enhanced session mode that you are hunting for).
    Also, you need to upgrade the Integration Components inside the VMs if you had not done that when you built them.  Relying on what is packaged with the VM OS is not enough if the VM OS is older than the host.
    Most likely what is happening is that the services are not enabled in the settings of the VM, or the ICs are not up to date within the VM.  That is the most common cause for what you are observing, not some issue with the host.

  • Hyper-V Backup failed but Hyper-V still shows Backing Up-

    We have DPM setup on a Physical machine backing up 3-Node Hyper-V 2012 Cluster using Dell Equallogic SAN.  Today I noticed a Hardware Snapshot still sitting out there from 4 days ago.  The snapshot is also attached and mounted to the Node from
    which the backup started.  Digging deeper the VM that failed from 4 days ago has a “Backing Up…” Status in Hyper-V.   Rebooted DPM server and don’t see any running jobs in DPM Console.  Tried to Live Migrate the VM from Failover Cluster
    console then the Console failed and had to reload.
    Any Idea how to stop the Backup from Hyper-V without stopping the VM?

    I have exactly the same issue. Some bugs?
    But managed to solve the problem by restarting Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service of the offending host...

    Only version 10.5 and version 12.x of Crystal Reports is supported on WIN 2008. It is good to hear that it works for you as long as it is not installed to Hyper-V, but your 1st thing to do should be going with a supported product.
    See the [Supported Platforms|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e09198a1-911e-2b10-179f-ce8eed51aed0] documentation for more details.

  • Hyper-V Starting Machine's Randomly

    I have been using Hyper-V for 6 months now and its working great. One issue I am having is that , seemingly randomly , it starts several machines that are in a saved state and leaves them running until I shut them off. It causes major issues because I have
    100+ Virtual machines each assigned with 4GB of ram in a system with only 64GB. This is a RDweb setup with only 10 users who only use 1 machine at a time so it is never an issue.
    I cannot seem to find any info on why this is happening. My best guess would be that the machine is undergoing some sort of maintenance.

    If the VM settings for Automatic Stop Action are set to “Save the Virtual Machine State” which is the default you may want to change the setting to either shutdown the guest OS or try the turn off virtual machine setting.

  • Client Hyper-V "Cannot Connect to Virtual Machine"

    I'm trying to run Client Hyper-V on my Windows 8 Pro machine. I was able to successfully install the service, and can create virtual machines and hard disks on my local system. I can even start them, and see boot activity via the preview window in the MMC.
    I cannot, however, connect to any machines from the local system: when I do, it hangs on "Connecting to <machinename>" for 30 seconds before it pops up with the dialog:
    "Cannot connect to virtual machine. Try to connect again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator."
    Obviously, because this is Client Hyper-V, I am the system administrator, so I scour the Internet to solve my problem. I see solutions related to firewalls, administrative permissions, a few other things, and nothing has worked. I also tried creating
    a virtual machine on a Windows 8 Enterprise system (which can connect to it just fine) and export it for the Pro machine to import, and I still cannot connect to it, whether the VM is registered in place or copied to the host.
    Some other notes:
    - None of these systems has an OS installed - two locally created ones either had no boot or booted off a Linux LiveCD, and the exported one attempted to do a PXE boot. Thus, I cannot attempt to link via Remote Desktop since the computers have no names
    - Hyper-V has some other quirks on my system as well: in order to stop a virtual machine, I have to end the vmwp process - which restarts the machine - and then stop it from the console within a few seconds. Otherwise, it hangs in the "Stopping"
    state. In addition, none of the buttons on the side of the MMC work, but that occurs over all of MMC.
    - No events show up in the Event log when a connection fails
    - I am an admin on the Pro machine and have permissions to connect to machines and operate the management view

    When you checked the event log’s what sources did you check?
    Can you verify there are not any relevant error/warning events under the following sources:
    Applications and Services Logs
    Microsoft
    Windows
    Hyper-V-VMMS
    Admin
    Operational
    Hyper-V-Worker
    Admin
    Operational
    If not we should enable some additional logging if possible to see what is going on.
    Shutdown any running VM’s
    Close all of the Hyper-V UI
    Stop the VMMS service (net stop vmms)
    Enable Analytic logging for the VMMS and Worker Process (see below)
    Enable UI Tracing for Hyper-V Manager and VMConnect (see below)
    Start the VMMS service (net start vmms)
    Open Hyper-V Manger
    Restart the VM
    Attempt to connect (try two or three times)
    Gather Logs (see below)
    Disable Tracing (see below)
    Enabling Analytic Logging For the VMMS and Worker Process
    Open the Event Viewer
    From the menu bar select View -> Show Analytic and Debug Logs
    Navigate to the Hyper-V logs and Enable the Analytic Channels
    Applications and Services Logs
    Microsoft

    Enabling UI Tracing
    Create a new text file named “VMClientTrace.config” in the "%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\Client\1.0\” folder
    Copy the following XML text into that file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <configuration>
        <Microsoft.Virtualization.Client.TraceConfigurationOptions>
            <setting name="TraceTagFormat" type="System.Int32">

            </setting>
            <setting name="BrowserTraceLevel" type="System.Int32">
                <value>71</value>
            </setting>
            <setting name="VMConnectTraceLevel" type="System.Int32">
                <value>71</value>
            </setting>
        </Microsoft.Virtualization.Client.TraceConfigurationOptions>
    </configuration>
    Save the file.
    Gathering The Logs
    The Analytic logs will be in the analytic folder (you often have to refresh or select another source then analytic again to see them)
    The UI trace Logs will be in %temp% (sometime back one directory i.e. %temp% = “C:\Users\taylorb\AppData\Local\Temp\2” for me but the logs are at “C:\Users\taylorb\AppData\Local\Temp”
    Disabling Tracing
    To disable Analytic Tracing just right click on the analytic sources and select disable (same as enabling)
    To disable UI tracing just delete the “%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\Client\1.0\VMClientTrace.config” file.

    Warm Regards,

    Hi,
    The key point would be this:
    The Virtual Machine Worker Process has lost its connection to the root\virtualization WMI namespace: General access denied error (0x80070005).
    Please open MMC, add Component Services snap-in:
    Component Services -> Computers -> My Computer -> DCOM Config -> Windows Management Instrumentation -> Right Click, Properties -> Security “Launch and Activation Permission” -> Edit -> gave Authenticated Users
    Full Control
    Check the result.

  • ITunes 7.4 is now available

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    With iTunes 7.4, sync your favorite music and more with the new iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, and iPod touch, plus create custom ringtones exclusively for iPhone with many of your favorite songs purchased from the iTunes Store. You can now also play purchased videos with closed captioning (when available), easily rate your favorite albums from one to five stars, and watch videos at a larger size inside the iTunes window.

    I know this is not going to be what you all want to hear but you are forgetting (or are unaware) that a ringtone is a separate item from a song as far a copyright laws are concerned. Just because you purchased a song does not give you legal right to use it as a ringtone. The artists and music labels make separate agreements with ringtone sellers (like Verizon, AT & T and now Apple) for the right for their music to be sold as ringtones for which they receive and are entitled to additional compensation.
    Instead of being angry at Apple about they way they have set this up, you should be happy that they have made an agreement that allows us, for the total cost of $1.98, to buy both the full song and a custom ringtone (you get to choose the 30 second segment you want for your ringtone). To legally purchase ringtones from the other cell phone providers, it costs $2.49 or more to own only a 30 second clip of the song.
    So you can all continue to bend the rules but stop criticizing Apple for coming up with a very creative (as usual), economical, easy and legal way to get more ringtones on our iPhones.

  • Can't Send Mail Via HughesNet SMTP Server

    After installing 10.5 I find that I can receive mail from my ISP (HughesNet) but I can't send mail through the smtp server. I've tried every setting possible and even duplicated the settings off my wife's 10.4.10 iMac and I still can't send mail. All I see is that the smtp service is "Offline."
    Fortunately, I have a .Mac account so I can send mail using that smtp server. But I'd like to be abel to use my HughesNet server.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    My mom uses RoadRunner by Time Warner. She was able to receive email using Leopard and Mail but not send. SMTP server was the big problem like everyone else here experienced. We finally were able to get it to work using many ideas here. What we did:
    1) Delete com.apple.mail.plist from the User/Library/Preferences folder (BACK UP YOUR EMAIL FIRST)
    2) Open Mail and create a new account but disable the automatic set-up feature, put your info in manually.
    3) Uncheck " Use only this server" from the outgoing mail
    4) Under the Advanced tab on Mail Prefs "port set to 25", Uncheck "SSL" box, and uncheck "Use Authentication"
    5) Now hit Create
    It took Mail about 20 minutes to contact the SMTP server, but it did and now I can send and receive Mail without any problems on her computer.
    Bad Apple...stop criticizing MS and Vista when your own house is not in order yet. Hope this helps someone out there.....

  • Class ToysInventory

    I have searched the java tutorials for possible solutions for this assignment, and all I got was a lot of ridicule responses. What I am needing, if possible for someone to exlain this assignment to me so that a beginner like myself could understand.. My instructor doesn't clarify things enough so that we could understand. If someone could possible post an example using their own code, it would be greatly appreciated. I am not looking for someone to do this assignment for me. I just need a blueprint something that I can relate to in order to understand.
    Thank you any comments and help would greatly be appreciative.
    Jeff asks you to create a small Java program that loops through an array of toys ordered as a start to the inventory automation project. For now, he says you can use a sample list of possible items. The items you choose for the inventory list are ball, bat, bear, car, doll, game, glove, playstation, and train. In your sample program, keep a tally of the different items. If the item has already been mentioned, just increment that count as opposed to creating a new count for that item. You remember Jeff mentioning that orders for more than 4 items can sometimes cause stock outages. To alert the shipping department of situations where outages might occur, you decide to put an asterisk (*) before any item for which the customer has requested a quantity of 5 or more. At the end, print to the screen a summary of the items and their total count.
    Here is a possible structure of your program. This program has a single class named ToysInventory. The class has some private attributes and three public methods: countToys, printItems, and main.
    Feel free to design your program from scratch.
    public class ToysInventory {
         // declare counters to keep track of the number of each type of toys
         private
         // Toys in our inventory
         // declare an array to hold our inventory of toys
         private String [] toysInventory =
         // count the number of each type of toys in our inventory.
         // This method uses the "length" method on the array to get the number
         // of toys in the inventory.
         public void countToys () {

         // Print the name of each toy, followed by its count.
         // identify toys whose count exceeds five with a "*".
         public void printItems() {

         // This is the main method of the class. It calls the methods of the class to
         // perform its job.
         public static void main (String [] args) {
              // instantiate a class of "toysInventory", then call its methods:
              // countToys and printItems.
              ToysInventory collection = new ToysInventory ();

    (Hint: Use myArray.length to determine how long the order input array is. Use System.out.print() to print a portion of an output line, and use System.out.println() to print a line and the carriage return to the next line. Make sure you handle the case where the inventory item description is not among those listed above such as could happen with a typo or error.)
    Here is your order input array: "bear," "train," "car," "ball," "doll," "ball," "train," "doll," "game," "train," "bear," "doll," "train," "car," "ball," "bat," "glove," "bat," "b," "doll," "bear," "ball," "doll," "bat," "car," "glove," "train," "doll," "bear"

    Well, I figured that if the instructor isn't really teaching it as I can tell by all the postings I have already seen. Maybe you right I am not fit to write code. However, that isn't for you to decide. My thing is like I said prior, I don't want you to do the code for me. I would like to see an example. So if you are here to help. Then help and stop criticizing, because criticizing doesn't help. I mean, if you are going to help, and if not please keep quiet and not say anything at all.
    Now, my thing is this, I have never worked with Java before, and taking a course online maybe wasn't such bright idea. Now if it was Visual Basic than I wouldn't be here. So the code that I have been fidgeting with is as follows:
    public class ToysInventory {
         // declare counters to keep track of the number of each type of toys
         int numberOfToys = 0;
         boolean productFound;
    String container;
         // Toys in our inventory
         // declare an array to hold our inventory of toys
              public String [] toys = {"bear","train","car","ball","doll","ball","train","doll","game","train","bear","doll","train","car","ball,","bat","glove","bat","b","doll","bear","ball","doll","bat","car","glove","train","doll","bear"};
         public String[] toysInventory = new String [toys.length];
         int[] typeCount = new int[toys.length];
         // count the number of each type of toys in our inventory.
         // This method uses the "length" method on the array to get the number
         // of toys in the inventory.
         public void countToys ()
         // public void countToys
         for (int k =0; k < toysInventory.length; k++)
              for(int i = 0; i < toysInventory.length; i++ )
         if (toys[i] != "")
         productFound = false;
         for(int j = 0; j <= numberOfToys; j++ )
         if (toysInventory[j] == toys)
         productFound = true;
         typeCount[j]++;
    if (productFound != true)
    toysInventory[numberOfToys] = toys[i];
    typeCount[numberOfToys]=1;
    numberOfToys++;
         // Print the name of each toy, followed by its count.
         // identify toys whose count exceeds five with a "*".
         public void printItems()
         for (int i = 0; i < numberOfToys; i++)
    if (typeCount[i] >= 5) {
    container = ") *";
    else {
    container = ")";
    System.out.println(toysInventory[i] + " (" + typeCount[i] + container);
         // This is the main method of the class. It calls the methods of the class to
         // perform its job.
         public static void main (String [] args) {
              // instantiate a class of "toysInventory", then call its methods:
              // countToys and printItems.
              toysInventory collection = new toysInventory ();
              collection.printItems();
              System.out.println();
              toysInventory collection1 = new toysInventory ();
              collection1.countToys();
              System.out.println();
    and it is only bits of pieces that I have acquired through the many tutorials and chapters that I have read.
