I think there are no overlaped processor sets. But the error occurs.
I have another server with the same hardware and the same settings. It has overlaped processor sets by default. And the error does not occur on it.
What else should  I check on my "bad" server?

  • Hyper-V-VmSwitch event 106

    Hi everybody,
I have a problem with my nic teaming in Hyper-V.
In eventlog I do have events with id 106:
Available processor sets of the underlying physical NICs belonging to the LBFO team NIC /DEVICE/{GUID} (Friendly Name: Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Driver #2) on switch GUID (Friendly Name: HS-vSwitch) are not configured correctly. Reason: The processor sets overlap when LBFO is configured with sum-queue mode.
I have read the following blogs:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2013/09/24/vmq-deep-dive-1-of-3.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2013/09/10/vmq-deep-dive-2-of-3.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2013/10/22/vmq-deep-dive-3-of-3.aspx
I do have 2 CPU-Sockets with 12 cores per socket and hyperthreading enabled.
    That makes 48 logical processors.
My NIC-Team is switchindependent with "Hyper-V Port" load balancing mode.
As far as I understand I have to configure the VMQs to use seperate logical processors (lp) per NIC.
I do this with the following commands in powershell:
    Set-NetAdapterVMQ –Name NIC01 –BaseProcessorNumber 0 –MaxProcessors 24
    Set-NetAdapterVMQ –Name NIC02 –BaseProcessorNumber 24 –MaxProcessors 24
After this command I still get the error in eventlog :(
I tried a bit after that and used the following commands:
    Set-NetAdapterVMQ –Name NIC01 –BaseProcessorNumber 0 –MaxProcessors 12
    Set-NetAdapterVMQ –Name NIC02 –BaseProcessorNumber 24 –MaxProcessors 12
There should be no overlapping anymore but error is still there.
My NICs are VMQ enabled. This is verified with get-netadaptervmq and the above settings are correctly displayed (BaseVmqProcessor and MaxProcessors).
    What am I getting wrong?
    Thanks for your help.
    Greetings from germany,
    torsten

    Thanks for your reply.
The reboot didn't change anything. Would have been strange if the reboot would have been necessary :-)
I did some more testing and the following did solve my issue:
    Set-NetAdapterVMQ -Name NIC1 -BaseProcessorgroup 0 –BaseProcessorNumber 2 -Enabled $True -MaxProcessorNumber 9 –MaxProcessors 8
    Set-NetAdapterVMQ -Name NIC2 -BaseProcessorgroup 0 –BaseProcessorNumber 12 -Enabled $True -MaxProcessorNumber 19 –MaxProcessors 8
The additional parameters are listet as optional but in my case the were necessary.
Hope this helps someone to save some time.
    greetings from germany,
    torsten

  • Hyper-V LBFO Teaming VMQ RSS-settings

    Hi,
We are running a six host Hyper-V Cluster on 2012 R2 Core machines. Since the environment was set up we have been receiving the following error:
    Source: Hyper-V-VmSwitch
    Event ID: 106
Description: Available processor sets of the underlying physical NICs belonging to the LBFO team on switch [GUID] (Friendly Name: VMNet Logical Switch are not configured correctly. Reason: The processor sets overlap when LBFO is configured with sum-queue
    mode.
The error pertains to the LBFO-team for our VM-Networks that was created automatically by SCVMM after joining the two NIC:s into a logical switch. After reading the MS documentation on Server 2012 teaming - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=30160)
    - I came to the following conclusion:
The team is SwitchIndependent, Active-Active with HyperVPort as LBA. Our hosts have 32 logical cores therefore i ran the following commands:
Set-NetAdapterRss -name VMNet01 -BaseProcessorNumber 2 -MaxProcessorNumber 16 (Leaving out CPU core 0 and 1 for system processing as per recommendations)
    Set-NetAdapterRss -name VMNet02 -BaseProcessorNumber 17 -MaxProcessorNumber 31
(I did not run any commands on the Logical Switch itself)
Which would give each NIC 15 cores each to use for VMQ. After that configuration was made and I rebooted the server i receive a different error upon boot:
    Source: Hyper-V-VmSwitch
    Event ID: 15
Description: Failed to restore configuration for port Properties (Friendly Name: ) on switch [GUID] (Friendly Name: ), status = Object Name not found.
Where [GUID] is the GUID of the Hyper-V-switch and the Friendly name of that Switch is blank (instead of saying VMNetLogical Switch) as before. I have tried removing the switch and adding it again (destroying and recreating the team). But the issue persists.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Might this just be a "cosmetic flaw" or is it something I should get in order before putting this host back in to our production environment?
This is what i get when i run Get-NetadapterRSS on the NIC:s and the switch

  • Lenovo RD120 & Hyper-v

Hello, sorry for my bad english.
i vant to install Hyper-v on my Lenovo RD120.
Wen i starting my virtual machine i'v got an error :
The virtual machine could not be started because the hypervisor is not running.  The following actions may help you resolve the problem: 1) Verify that the processor of the physical computer has a supported version of hardware-assisted virtualization. 2) Verify that hardware-assisted virtualization and hardware-assisted data execution protection are enabled in the BIOS of the physical computer.  (If you edit the BIOS to enable either setting, you must turn off the power to the physical computer and then turn it back on.  Resetting the physical computer is not sufficient.) 3) If you have made changes to the Boot Configuration Data store, review these changes to ensure that the hypervisor is configured to launch automatically.

I need to configure my bios option :
    - Processor Execute Disable Bit is Enabled
    - Intel Virtualization Technology is Enabled
the second is ok, but i don't find the first option ??
    who could help me ??
    thanks
    Jean Marc

    welcome to the forum!
what OS are you using?   if it's server 2008 64-bit, do you have the hyper-v role installed?

  • Access is denied messages in Win2012 R2 Failover Cluster validation report and CSV entering a paused state

Been having some issues with nodes basically dropping out of clusters config.
    Error showing was
"Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume1' ('Data') has entered a paused state because of '(c000020c)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished."
All nodes (Poweredge 420) connected a Dell MD3200 shared SAS storage.
    Nodes point to Virtual 2012 R2 DC's
Upon running validation with just two nodes, get the same errors over and over again.
    Bemused!

    List Disks
Description: List all disks visible to one or more nodes. If a subset of disks is specified for validation, list only disks in the subset.
An error occurred while executing the test.
Storage cannot be validated at this time. Node 'zhyperv2.KISLNET.LOCAL' could not be initialized for validation testing. Possible causes for this are that another validation test is being run from another management client, or a previous validation test was
unexpectedly terminated. If a previous validation test was unexpectedly terminated, the best corrective action is to restart the node and try again.
    Access is denied
The event viewer on one of the hosts shows
Cluster node 'zhyperv2' lost communication with cluster node 'zhyperv1'.  Network communication was reestablished. This could be due to communication temporarily being blocked by a firewall or connection security policy update. If the problem persists
and network communication are not reestablished, the cluster service on one or more nodes will stop.  If that happens, run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. Additionally, check for hardware or software errors related
to the network adapters on this node, and check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.
The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost. This could be due to the loss of network connectivity between some or all nodes in the cluster, or a failover of the witness disk.
Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected
such as hubs, switches, or bridges.
Only other warning is because the 4 nic ports in each node server are teamed on one ip address split over two switches - I am not concernd about this and could if required split then pairs, I think this is a red herring????

    Hi,
Such events happen because of the following reason:
1- Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks not enabled on all network interfaces. Check this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2008795
. Please make sure these two protocols are enabled on all cluster networks
2- Network connectivity issue can cause this event as well. Please make sure the network cabling/Cards/Switches are correctly configured and working as expected
3- Connectivity issue with the storage can also cause this event. Please make sure all the nodes are connected to storage. Check HBA/Cabling connectivity to SAN. Make sure
that the SAN drivers are up-to-date.
4- Antivirus may interrupt network communication and cause this failure. Please exclude CSV volumes from being scanned by AV: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/953.microsoft-anti-virus-exclusion-list.aspx
5- Disable TCP Chimney related settings on all cluster nodes. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951037
6- Please check the Network Binding Order (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/2535c73a-a347-4152-be7a-ea7b24159520/hyperv-r2-csv-cluster-recommended-binding-order?forum=windowsserver2008r2highavailability)
7- Firewall Rules For All Inbound and Outbound For Cluster and Hyper-V for all the Profiles
    8- Update NIC Driver/Firmware.
9- Check Compatibility of the NIC with Windows Server 2012R2

  • Cannot enable VLAN on VM

    Hi all,
I cannot enable VLAN identification for VM, when I try to apply I get message: "Error Applying Network Adapter Changes. The Operation on computer 'ServerName' failed.". Previously everything was fine.
In event viewer I see following error:
    Event ID 95, Source: Hyper-V-VmSwitch
The VLAN configuration being set on port 036E9BF5-0646-4DC4-967C-B8E4A9A2FB29 (Friendly Name: External_ExternalPort) on switch 749C7BFE-0926-4957-9B95-5D24CE4B1225 (Friendly Name: LAN) is invalid. Reason: VLAN settings other than Access VLAN Id must be zero
The same situation if I try to uncheck 'Enable VLAN identification' on VM where VLAN was already set. Reboot didn't help. NIC firmware upgrade didn't help.
Host info: Dell PowerEdge R710, Two Broadcom NET Extreme II NICs inside NIC team created by BACS, HyperV 2012 Server OS.
    How to figure this out?

    Sorry, this is my fail.
I connected to HyperV host from 2008R2 console. With 2012 console everything works fine.

Can ANy one Helps why I am getting this error and whats the solution to the Error....
    Thanksss...

    Hi Asfand,
As you mentioned ,every hyper-v has 2 NICs and team mode is sum-queue .
You can try to use following powershell command (if you want to allocate 14,16 LPs for each NIC and 0,1 LP for default queue ) :
    Set-NetAdapterVMQ -Name NIC1 -BaseProcessorgroup 0 –BaseProcessorNumber 2 -Enabled $True -MaxProcessorNumber 15 –MaxProcessors 14
    Set-NetAdapterVMQ -Name NIC2 -BaseProcessorgroup 0 –BaseProcessorNumber 16 -Enabled $True -MaxProcessorNumber 31 –MaxProcessors 16

  • Unable to start guest OS in Hyper-V on Server 2012 R2

I get the following error trying to start any guest OS in Hyper-V Manager:
"An error occurred while attempting to start the selected virtual machine(s)::
    'TestVM' failed to start.
Virtual Machine 'TestVM' could not be started because the hypervisor is not running.
'TestVM' failed to start. (Virtual machine ID xxxxxxxxxxxx)
Virtual machine 'TestVM' could not be started because the hypervisor is not running (Virtual machine ID xxxxxxxxxxxx).
The following actions may help you resolve the problem:
    1) Verify that the processor of the physical computer has a supported version of hardware-assisted virtualization.
    2) Verify that hardware-assisted virtualization and hardware-assisted data execution protection are enabled in the BIOS of the physical computer. (If you edit the BIOS to enable either setting, you must turn off the power to the physical computer and then
turn it back on. Resetting the physical computer is not sufficient.)
    2) If you have made changes to the Boot Configuration Data store, review these changes to ensure that the hypervisor is configured to launch automatically."
    Host (Physical) Hardware:
    - Supermicro X9SRL-F, BIOS Rev 3.0a (current) with Intel Virtualization enabled and Execute Disable Bit enabled

    Host Software:
    - Server 2012 R2 DataCentre with update 1 (clean install)
    - Hyper-V role installed
All hardware supports virtualization and was previously running VMWare VSphere 5.5 without problem.
The BIOS settings for Intel Virtualization and Execute Disable Bit are both enabled.
The server has been physically shutdown and powered off numerous times, but still doesn't work.

I recently ran into this.  The person had made a modification to the System Properties of the Windows operating system.
    System Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings ...
On the Performance Options window, select the Data Execution Prevention tab. Ensure Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select is the option selected.  He had the other option selected.  The only way to get it to get it working
was to change the setting, uninstall Hyper-V, reboot, install Hyper-V, reboot.

  • Creating new VM ends with Error code 3430 and 3040 in Hyper-V log. Does anyone have any insight into what might cause this?

The new VM is being created via a P2V process run from SCVVM. It reaches a completion of 60% and dies. I asked about this in another question detail of the VVM can be seen at this link:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/virtualmachinemgrp2vv2v/thread/71aae7dc-13b5-46f1-b794-cc1b8085541f

I have blownout the server and reinstalled the operating system and SCVVM and applied all the current updates to no avail. I have the exact same issue again. The problem seem to be at least on the serface an authority problem because I have no problem creating
new VM via the P2V process on an old Virtual Server running on Win2003R2.
Oh yes I can create new virtual machines on the system in question and move them to the library as was suggested to verify in a Blog post so I am really wondering what the problem is?
Configuration Analyzer Just gave me a warning about reporting not being setup on the VVM which it isn't so no suprise there?
Any information that might help me figure this would be greatly appreciated

I've looked at both threads, and there simply isn't enough information for me to tell you what is wrong.  Please collect a trace (instructions in General forum) and open a case with CSS.  CSS can provide more in depth analysis than what a forum
    post allows.
As a shot in the dark, I have seen the issue outlined in the following KB article cause this exact same error message and symptom,

  • New Windows server 2003 Hyper-V guest fails to boot

    Hello,
I'm currently doing some virtualization experiments on my new server hardware. The host hardware is:
    IBM x3650 M4
    x2 Xeon E5-2609
    32GB RAM
    x2 480 GB SSDs
    Server OS: Windows server 2012
I'd like to test some legacy app virtualization. I've configured a VM and have installed Windows server 2003. The install is done via DVD. The issue at hand is that after the initial installation, the server fails to boot. The VM goes into a reboot loop
and so far the only error logging I'm able to find is in the hosts event log.

If its relevant, the host is not yet activated license wise. I downloaded the demo version so I could test my idea before making a purchase to go ahead with full implementation.
As it stands right now I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. Many searches on google have not turned up any helpful info. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    D

    Hi ,
First , please refer to the supported guest OS of windows 2012 hyper-v :
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh831531.aspx
2003/R2 should be with sp2 and max 2 virtual processors .
"'LegacyTS' was reset because an unrecoverable error occurred on a virtual processor that caused a triple fault."
If the issue is not due to the above items , you can try to check the "CPU compatibility " in that VM settings for troubleshooting:
     Hope it helps

  • How do I get RDP Access to Hyper-V host when DC and DHCP server is down and is a VM on that host.

My host machine is a Windows Server 2012 running SBS 2008 as a VM.
How can I configure a Hyper-V environment to allow me to RDP into the Hyper-V host in order to start individual VM's.
It seems that without the DC running (which happens to be a VM on the same host) the host does not have an IP address that I can RDP to. I also cannot assign it a static IP.
With the VM DC running I can RDP into that and then RDP from that to the Hyper-V host but I would like to be able to have the ability to access all VM's and be able to start and stop them as required, remotely.

The SBS 2008 server has a static IP and the NIC on the Hyper-V host is used by the Virtual Switch so a static IP cannot be assigned to the NIC on the Hyper-V host.
If you only have one physical adapter in your Hyper-V host and it's hosting the virtual switch, then you'll need to create a virtual adapter on it for the host to use.
You can check the "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter" in the "Virtual Switch Manager" inside "Hyper-V Manager". You'll automatically get a network adapter that shows up with the others on that system where you can give it IP
    and DNS information.
You can also do it in PowerShell:
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -SwitchName ((Get-VMSwitch).Name) -Name Mgmt
New-NetIpAddress -IPAddress ###.###.###.### -InterfaceAlias "vEthernet (Mgmt)" -DefaultGateway ###.###.###.### -PrefixLength ##
    Set-DnsClientServerAddress -InterfaceAlias "vEthernet (Mgmt)" -ServerAddresses ###.###.###.###, ###.###.###.###
Then you'll have an IP you can connect to from remote systems.

  • Enabling VM Guest NLB w/Multicast IGMP on 2012 Hyper-V host w/ converged SCVMM fabric switch

    What a mouthful.
    As short as possible:
    WHAT I'M ATTEMPTING:
I'm trying to build a new NLB cluster for a 2008 R2 SP1 Remote Desktop Services farm. And I'm trying to do it the right way, with multicast igmp, not unicast.
The two guest VMs with NLB install converge fine. VIP gets this:
    IP: 192.168.100.157
    MAC: 01-00-5e-7f-64-9d
NLB NIC is on the same VLAN & "Converged switch" in VMM as our mgmt/server traffic (That is to say it's on production VLAN, not on a separate vlan)
    PROBLEM:
Can't ping 100.157. From VM guest itself, from host, or from Cisco 6509 switch.
Cisco show mac address lookup does not see that MAC anywhere
show ip igmp groups shows not igmp traffic at all. Clearing counters show sno multicast increment.
    FURTHERMORE:
    Host is setup thusly:
    - Dell R810
    - 8x1GbE Broadcom 5709c in a Server 2012 LACP/HASH team built via VMM powershell cmdlets
    - On the physical switch side, those 8 nics are in a Cisco port-channel, trunked, all VLANs allowed
    -  Host has no "physical" nics per se, as in a 2008 R2 hyper-v host. Instead Host has these:

Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "MGMT" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 25
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "CSV" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 40
    Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "iSCSI #1" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 0
    Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "iSCSI #2" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 0
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Aux" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 0

    Question:
Aside from a few of my favorite MS MVPs (shout out to
WorkingHardInIt for having this same question), I can't find much documentation on employing 2008 R2 NLB on guest VM within a fabric-oriented, VMM-built 2012 Hyper-Visor converged switch (no network virtualization...yet).
Yes I know all about VMM NLB but 1) I'm trying to wedge NLB in after building these VMs without a service template (NLB is the audible, essentially) and 2) MS NLB is configured in providers & I've created requisite VIP templates.
Even so, I ought to be able to create an NLB cluster without VMM's assistance in this scenario correct? Suboptimal, I know but possible, yes? Essentially I've put to synthetic NICs on each VM, set IPs manually, and assigned them to the same vlan. I can ping
each synthetic NIC, but not the cluster IP.
And yes: these particular vNICs have Mac Address Spoofing enabled.
    Cisco:
I have a TAC case open with Cisco, but they can't quite figure it out either. IGMP Snooping enabled across the switch. And they insist that the old static arp entry to resolve this problem is no longer necessary, that Microsoft now complies with relevant
    RFCs
    Possible SOlution:
Only thing I can think of is flipping MulticastForwarding param below from disabled to enabled. Anybody ever tried it on a converged virtual switch on the Hyper visor? Is my virtual converged switch protecting
    me from multicast igmp packets?
    PS C:\utilities> Get-NetIPv4Protocol

Sorry for the poor follow-up Steven. We are using Server 2012 Hyper-V, not VMWare, on the hosts. You can close this but for the benefit of anyone who comes across it:
After working with Cisco, we decided not to implement multicast IGMP. Cisco says you still need to create a static ARP entry on the physical switch, though my cluster IP address & Microsoft NLB 2008 R2 were set up with igmp multicast, not multicast or
    unicast. Here was his email:
Yes, we will need the static mapping for the NLB server in this case because the NLB mac address is multicast and the IP address is unicast. I was under the impression that even the server would be using IGMP but that’s not
the case. We won’t need to do the mapping for the nodes though if they use IGMP. To this end, following is the configuration that should make this work.rp 192.168.100.157
    0100.5e7f.649d arpa
    <u5:p></u5:p>
    mac address-table static 0000.0000.649d vlan <> interface <> disable-snooping
ßThis is the switch interface where the NLB server is located<u5:p></u5:p>
     interface vlan<>
    <u5:p></u5:p>
ip pim sparse-dense-mode     <- This is needed for the switch to elicit IGMP joins from the nodes<u5:p></u5:p>
    end<u5:p></u5:p>
I don't think it got through to him that there was a virtual Layer 2/3 Hyper-V switch on top of 8 teamed GbE interfaces in LACP/hash. "Where the NLB server is located" = 1)a Cisco port-channel bound to one of six physical hosts; the NLB VM itself could be
on any of those port channels at any given time (We have a six node Hyper-V cluster).
Once I enabled pim I did see activity; but we killed this later as we realized we'd have to implement the same on 40+ managed routers globally
Anyway we further would have had to implement this across managed routers at 40 sites globally according to Cisco.
